Accidentally Sold Myself (Rebirth) - Chapter 11
11: Flashy Moves
When Jiang Wenxi saw the two coming out, she was a bit curious about who the president had chosen. “Hey, who did the president pick? Are they good-looking or what?”
The two instantly went into gossip mode. “Let me tell you, it was the president’s wife who made the choice. You should’ve seen it—the president was so doting, practically stuffing us with dog food.”
“Yeah, yeah, I was totally floored. Such a big decision, and the president just casually let her wife decide.”
Jiang Wenxi’s face fell with regret. If she’d known, she would’ve tagged along…
Gu Xi wanted their autographs—after all, these were future A-list actors and actresses. Excitedly, she said, “President, after they sign the contract, can I take a photo with them and get their autographs?”
Hmm? Upon hearing this, Luo Ningshuang started radiating a chilly aura. She was beginning to regret agreeing to sign them as endorsers. But seeing Gu Xi’s expectant eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse and reluctantly nodded.
“Hehe, thanks!” Gu Xi, seeing Luo Ningshuang’s approval, plopped back into her seat with a satisfied grin.
Lan Qingxue, witnessing Luo Ningshuang being put in her place for the first time, was a bit shocked. Such a strong-willed person had turned into a total wife-slave, though it seemed Luo Ningshuang herself hadn’t noticed the change. “Well, I won’t disturb you two. I’m heading out.”
Luo Ningshuang nodded, while Mo Yuze couldn’t wait for her to leave. “Take your time, no need to see you out.”
Lan Qingxue shot her a cold glance. “You’re coming with me.”
“No way.”
Gu Xi watched as Lan Qingxue dragged Mo Yuze away with an air of authority. Though Mo Yuze seemed reluctant, she didn’t put up much of a fight.
“Alright, stop staring. They’re gone.” Luo Ningshuang said with a smile, noticing Gu Xi’s sneaky glances.
But Gu Xi let out a cold huff and ignored her, opening her laptop to continue writing.
Luo Ningshuang hadn’t expected Gu Xi to still be mad despite her earlier apology. She lowered her head to look at some documents but couldn’t focus, feeling inexplicably irritated.
A sudden QQ notification made her even more annoyed. Gu Xi picked up her phone.
Friend: I’ll head over in a couple of days. Gotta go sign a contract there and promote your writing while I’m at it. I’ll find you after I’m done.
Gu Xi: OK, wishing you success!
Friend: Thanks for the good vibes. Don’t forget we’re gonna team up and slay it!
Gu Xi: No prob, gotta go. I’m writing—haven’t posted today’s update yet.
Friend: Cool.
Gu Xi’s typing speed had noticeably improved. By the time she finished, she realized she’d churned out two chapters without even noticing.
After posting the updates, Gu Xi let out a sigh of relief. She’d exceeded her daily goal.
She shut down her laptop and saw that Luo Ningshuang was still busy. Gu Xi started massaging her eyes, closing them to rest. She always did this after writing to protect her eyesight.
Luo Ningshuang noticed Gu Xi’s update and quietly read the latest two chapters.
The more she read, the more familiar it felt. Wasn’t this… based on what happened today? And this president character—was that supposed to be her?
Luo Ningshuang finished the first chapter with a smile. It was sweet and heartwarming. So this was how Gu Xi saw her! Without hesitation, she tipped six “deepwater torpedoes”.
“Wow! Queen’s got some serious cash, dropping six deepwaters like it’s nothing. So jealous!”
“OMG, Lazy Dog actually posted extra chapters today? Shocked face!”
“Am I the only one smelling some spicy drama here?”
“You’re not alone, upstairs.”
Before the gossip could escalate, Luo Ningshuang tipped a “moonstone” for the next chapter—because in this one, she was written as a total scumbag. What the hell? Who did she ever scam? She’d never even been in a relationship!
“LMAO, what’s with the Queen’s flashy move?”
“Where’s the one who mentioned spicy drama? Come explain this!”
“Hahaha, Queen, are you finally ditching Lazy Dog? Come to my arms instead!”
Luo Ningshuang’s mood soured when she saw that last comment. Why did it bother her? She didn’t know, but she tipped another six torpedoes out of spite.
“…I don’t get this move. Maybe the Queen’s from another dimension.”
“Maybe she just fat-fingered it?”
The crowd: “…”
Satisfied, Luo Ningshuang put her phone away and stood up. “Gu Xi, it’s about time. Let’s go.”
“Oh.” Gu Xi got up, trailing far behind Luo Ningshuang. She didn’t want to get too close to this flirtatious scumbag—she had to keep her distance.
But Luo Ningshuang slowed her pace. Seeing Gu Xi still lagging behind, she lost patience, took two steps back, grabbed Gu Xi’s hand, and pulled her along.
Her grip was strong, and Gu Xi couldn’t break free. In her mind, she grumbled: Big deal, you’ve got strength. Still can’t beat me!
The people in the lobby started gossiping again. “Huh, they’re good again already?”
“What do you know? Couples fight at the head of the bed and make up at the foot.”
“So I’ve got no chance, huh?”
“Nah, get some plastic surgery, and maybe you’ll have a shot.”
“…”
Luo Ningshuang dragged Gu Xi to the car and was thoroughly done with her. She hadn’t expected Gu Xi to be so stubborn, sulking this long. Sighing, she said, “The contract’s for three years. After that, I’ll give you 20% of LS’s shares. Can you stop being mad now?”
“Huh? I’m not mad. Don’t judge me with your petty assumptions.” Gu Xi replied, then happily scrolled through comments.
Twenty percent? How much money was that? She remembered someone sold 2% for 1.5 billion, so… three years from now, she’d be a billionaire with 15 billion!
In her past life, Gu Xi had never seen that kind of money. She suddenly looked up and asked, “Oh, right, will I still get the 20,000 a month?”
Luo Ningshuang was speechless. Fine, you’re right, I’m the petty one, you’re the saint. Resigned, she said, “Yes.”
Little money-grubber. But for some reason, Luo Ningshuang couldn’t bring herself to dislike her, even though she usually despised greedy, status-climbing types. She said nothing more and focused on driving.
Gu Xi, satisfied with the answer, went back to her phone. She’d meant to check if people liked her writing, but thanks to the Queen’s flashy moves, the comment section had gone completely off-topic, speculating about some affair between her and the Queen.
Gu Xi wanted to cry. Guys, please, just read the story properly, okay?
While she was engrossed in the comments, her phone was suddenly snatched away. Gu Xi glared at Luo Ningshuang with a pout. “Fine, I won’t look. Give it back.”
Luo Ningshuang raised an eyebrow and smirked. “I’ll give it back when we get there.”
Fine. If she weren’t driving, Gu Xi would’ve fought for it. She crossed her arms, silently protesting, and stopped talking.
The car drove to an increasingly remote area. Gu Xi hadn’t expected Luo Ningshuang’s family to live in such a middle-of-nowhere place.
When they passed through a grand gate, the stunning courtyard scenery clashed with the barren surroundings. A massive fountain, manicured lawns, and intricately shaped topiary sculptures greeted them.
There were even servants trimming the sculptures.
Gu Xi grabbed her phone back as she got out of the car, shooting Luo Ningshuang a glare. The Western-style architecture, with its majestic, ancient aura, was dazzling under the nighttime lights. She couldn’t help but sigh: Rich people, ugh.
Luo Ningshuang led her inside with a smile. Gu Xi’s eyes were immediately drawn to the ornate staircase railing, the grand staircase, and the massive oil painting hanging above, which looked insanely expensive.
Next to the living room was a towering marble fireplace, intricately carved like a work of art. The plush high-back sofa added a cozy warmth to the space.
Gu Xi’s inner voice screamed, Holy crap, they’re filthy rich!
“Oh, you’re finally here!” A middle-aged woman rushed down the stairs, followed by a resigned-looking middle-aged man.
It was obvious they were Luo Ningshuang’s parents. Despite their age, they were impeccably maintained, exuding an air of elegance and charm. To Gu Xi, they were the epitome of a refined lady and a dashing gentleman.
She glanced at Luo Ningshuang. No wonder she’s so unfairly gorgeous.
Luo Ningshuang opened her arms, ready to embrace the woman. “Mom.”
But just as the woman was about to hug her, she put a hand on Luo Ningshuang’s shoulder, smiled warmly, then pushed her aside to hug Gu Xi instead. “Oh, you must be Gu Xi! I’m Shu Lanting, Luo Ningshuang’s mom. Just call me Mom from now on.”
Gu Xi: “…” Oh, so this is how moms are?
Luo Ningshuang: “…” My mom wasn’t like this before!
Then Shu Lanting introduced, “This is her dad. Just call him Dad.”
Luo Ziqian: “…” Great, my wife’s too lazy to even say my name.
Out of politeness, Gu Xi gave an awkward smile and was about to greet them when Shu Lanting pulled her to the dining table, pinching her cheeks. “Oh, look at this cute face, so pretty! Not like my daughter, who looks like some seductive vixen.”
Gu Xi: “…”
Luo Ningshuang: “…” Who talks about their daughter like that?
Luo Ziqian coughed, about to introduce himself, but Shu Lanting shot him a glare. “What’s it got to do with you?”
Luo Ziqian immediately shut up.
“Come, Xi’er, sit with me. You don’t know how cold and aloof my two daughters are—not cute at all…”
Luo Ziqian watched his wife chatter away helplessly, signaling the servants to serve dinner. He leaned toward Luo Ningshuang and whispered, “Don’t forget to introduce your old man’s name later.”
Luo Ningshuang nodded, then asked, “Dad, where’s Grandpa? Didn’t he come?”
Luo Ziqian shook his head. “No idea. He said he found something out and went back.”
“What about the Xiao family? Any movement?”
Luo Ningshuang shook her head. “Not sure, but I’m already gathering funds.”
Luo Ziqian raised an eyebrow. “You short on money? Dad’s got some. The Luo family isn’t what it used to be, but a lean camel’s still bigger than a horse.”
Luo Ningshuang didn’t need help. “I’m planning to break into the film industry. If we start domestically, the Xiao family will definitely try to suppress us. So this money is for Big Sis.”
Luo Ziqian nodded, then sighed. “It’s all my fault for not being capable enough to hold up the Luo family, making you two run around all the time.”
“Dad, it’s not your fault. During those times, keeping the family business intact was already a huge achievement.”
