Accidentally Sold Myself (Rebirth) - Chapter 26
26: Crisis
Ding~ Side mission “Sign Actors” completion status: Completed (Reward: 10 Luck Points)
Total Luck Points: 20/100
“Haha, I have 20 points now, so happy!” After successfully signing two people, Gu Xi returned to the hotel and immediately threw herself onto the bed, rolling around in excitement.
Gu Xi was thrilled, but good news like this needed to be shared with someone, or it would feel meaningless. The first person she thought of was, as always, Luo Ningshuang. She grabbed her phone.
Gu Xi: I have great news! I successfully signed two people—one will become a big shot in the hosting world, and the other will be the most popular actress in the future.
Luo Ningshuang: Is that important?
Seeing this message, Gu Xi thought she must have misread it. She rubbed her eyes and muttered, “Not important? Is she nuts?”
Ding~ The Jinjiang System, noting the author’s low emotional intelligence, suggests sending a message saying, “I miss you.”
Gu Xi rolled her eyes. “As if you’re some kind of relationship expert. You’re not even human—what do you know? Stop giving me bad advice.”
Ding~ Are you insulting this system?
Gu Xi shook her head. “No, I’m just stating facts. Are you human?”
Ding~ No…
“Heh,” Gu Xi smirked mockingly, then typed: You’re right… none of this matters. What’s important is you… (with a dramatic pause).
Luo Ningshuang replied instantly: Really?
Gu Xi: Have you signed those two people on your end?
Gu Xi waited for a while but got no response. Thinking Luo Ningshuang might be upset, she huffed, “That’s what you get for teasing me all the time. Serves you right!”
“Gu Xi, who are you trying to make mad?” Lan Qingxue asked as she walked in, catching Gu Xi’s smug words.
“No one, Sister Qingxue! I successfully signed two people, so the company’s pressure should ease up a bit.” Gu Xi said with a mischievous grin.
Lan Qingxue nodded but looked puzzled. “That’s great, but I don’t understand why you had me test those people but didn’t sign them.”
Gu Xi put on a mysterious air. “Doesn’t AC Media love poaching our people? Let’s give them a few ‘gifts.’ They might not seem like much now, but in the future, those people will give them quite a headache.”
Lan Qingxue sat on the sofa, stretching her graceful figure, which made Gu Xi a bit envious of her curves.
Ding~ The Jinjiang System detects suspicious activity at the door!
Gu Xi jumped up and rushed to the door, with Lan Qingxue following, confused.
Peering through the peephole, Gu Xi was startled by a large eye staring back, causing her to scream.
“What’s wrong?”
The person outside heard the scream and started banging on the door, shouting anxiously, “Hey, are you guys okay?”
It was Mo Yuze’s voice. Gu Xi flung open the door and yelled, “Damn it, you scared the hell out of me!”
“Why are you here?” Lan Qingxue asked coldly, eyeing Mo Yuze’s empty hands and awkward demeanor.
Mo Yuze scratched his head, his eyes flickering. “I… I was just worried about you guys, so I came to check.”
Worried? More like chasing after her crush. It seemed the recent separation had made Mo Yuze determined to win her over.
Being a good wingman, Gu Xi made an excuse. “You two chat. I’m going to take a walk. I’ve been in B City for days and haven’t explored yet.”
“Wait, let’s go together.” Lan Qingxue said, stepping forward, clearly seeing through Gu Xi’s intentions and blocking her escape.
Gu Xi could only shoot Mo Yuze a helpless look.
—I’m out shopping now. Wanna come?
A text notification chimed. Gu Xi glanced at it—perfect timing. She replied with a quick “Okay.”
Waving her phone at Lan Qingxue, Gu Xi said, “Sister Qingxue, Sister Xi is looking for me. I won’t join you guys. I’m off—bye!”
“Hey, wait—”
Before Lan Qingxue could stop her, Gu Xi slipped past them and ran off. Once she was sure they weren’t following, she stopped, panting. “Didn’t expect a shut-in like me to be this fast. Mo Yuze, you owe me 2 million, or we’re not done!”
After catching her breath, Gu Xi called Cheng Zixi. “Sister Xi, I’m out! Where are you?”
On the other end, Cheng Zixi’s voice was low and cryptic. “Are you alone right now?”
Gu Xi was confused and glanced around at the bustling crowd. “Yeah, Sister Xi, where are you?”
“I’m sorry, Gu Xi. Please forgive me.” Cheng Zixi said before hanging up.
Gu Xi stared at her phone, puzzled.
Ding~ Danger warning: Author, please survive the upcoming crisis.
“What crisis? Can you be clearer?” Gu Xi asked, exasperated.
Suddenly, a black van with fake plates screeched to a stop beside her. Two young men jumped out, their intentions clear. One grabbed Gu Xi, covering her mouth, while the other lifted her legs, carrying her into the van. Her phone fell to the ground with a thud as the van sped off.
Bystanders watched, but most did nothing. Only a few high school students, still naive to the ways of the world, called the police and stayed by the dropped phone.
Lan Qingxue, following the direction Gu Xi had run, glared at Mo Yuze. “Don’t think you can get close to me just because Gu Xi’s gone.”
“I know I messed up. I’m trying to make it right.” Mo Yuze said cautiously.
“Who knows if you’ve really changed? Mo Yuze, you’ve hurt me too many times.” Lan Qingxue snapped, her pent-up resentment still raw.
Mo Yuze was about to respond when they noticed a crowd murmuring nearby. Exchanging a glance, they pushed through and saw Gu Xi’s phone on the ground. Mo Yuze gasped, “That’s Gu Xi’s phone!”
Lan Qingxue immediately questioned the bystanders. The high school students explained what happened, and Mo Yuze thanked them.
Lan Qingxue called Luo Ningshuang, cutting straight to the point. “Gu Xi’s been kidnapped. It’s likely the Xiao family’s doing. I’m sorry, I was careless.”
“Got it.” Luo Ningshuang replied.
…
After hanging up, Luo Ningshuang stood up, her expression grim as she told Luo Lingxi, “Gu Xi’s been kidnapped. I’m going to B City. You’re in charge of the company.”
Luo Lingxi, worried, said, “Okay, go quickly.”
“I’m going too.” Clarice said, but a single cold glance from Luo Ningshuang sent a chill down her spine, as if she’d been plunged into an icy abyss.
…
Gu Xi stared at the four burly men in the van, inwardly cursing the uselessness of her luck points.
She had to stay calm. Against four men, resistance was futile. Forcing a smile, she said, “Big brothers, who did I offend?”
One of them smirked. “Boss, this chick’s pretty fine. We hit the jackpot with this job.”
The leader nodded, eyeing Gu Xi greedily. “Don’t worry, little lady. We don’t want your life. Someone paid us to have some fun with you. Relax, we’ll be gentle.”
Gu Xi understood—their goal was to humiliate her. Fear crept in, but she forced herself to stay composed. “Aren’t you afraid of going to jail?”
The third man laughed. “Jail? We’re used to it. Besides, with this much money, we’ll live like kings when we get out!”
The fourth added, “And they might not even catch us, haha!”
Ding~ Jinjiang System advises the author to drink alcohol.
Drink? Wouldn’t that make her an easy target? But since the system suggested it, Gu Xi decided to take a chance. Would these thugs even have alcohol?
Suppressing her disgust at their leering, she said softly, “I’m a bit scared. Do you have any alcohol? Can I have a drink?”
The second man whistled, eyeing her. “Need some liquid courage, huh? No problem. I’ve got a bottle right here—pretty strong stuff. They say alcohol makes things wilder. Meant to spice things up, but it’s yours now.”
To her surprise, they actually had alcohol. With no other choice, Gu Xi followed the system’s advice. She bit off the cap and chugged the bottle.
The fourth man gaped. “Damn, she can drink!”
As she drank, some of the liquid spilled, sliding down her elegant neck, making her fair skin glisten temptingly.
After finishing, the leader noticed the area was deserted and pointed. “Pull over there.”
The fourth man, unable to hold back, leaned in. The third man lunged forward. “Boss, let me go first—I can’t wait!”
“Know your place!” the leader snapped, shoving him aside and reaching for Gu Xi’s arm.
Suddenly, a bl00d-curdling scream echoed for hundreds of meters. “AHH!”
The others roared, “You b1tch, you’re dead!”
More screams followed, lasting for some time before silence fell.
Three hours later, when Lan Qingxue and Mo Yuze found Gu Xi, the kidnappers were sprawled on the ground, sobbing. When they saw the police, they looked at them like saviors.
The leader, snot dripping everywhere, wailed, “Help! I was wrong! I swear I’ll go straight! I never want to be a bad guy again! Officer, please call an ambulance, I’m in so much pain!”
Police: …So gross. Can I not call?
The third man, barely turning his head toward the van where Gu Xi was passed out, muttered, “That woman’s terrifying. I wouldn’t take her even if she was handed to me.”
The police checked the scene. “All of them have broken bones. Call an ambulance.”
Lan Qingxue and Mo Yuze exchanged stunned looks.
The police crouched down. “You attempted kidnapping with malicious intent. Reflect on that in jail.”
The second man nodded frantically. “Jail, yes, lock us up! That woman’s a demon in an angel’s skin. She snapped my hand with a flick and broke my leg with a kick!”
The fourth man chimed in, “Yeah, I’m done. I’m going gay.”
Everyone: …
Police: “You guys are nuts. You need a psych eval.”
Lan Qingxue stepped forward. “No, lock them up now.”
“YES, lock us up!” the kidnappers said in unison.
