Accidentally Sold Myself (Rebirth) - Chapter 4
4: Sharing a Bed
Just as Gu Xi was so hungry her stomach was practically sticking to her spine, Aunt Lan finally arrived, albeit late, with a glamorous beauty trailing behind her. The moment this beauty stepped in, she sized Gu Xi up with a suggestive gaze. One look at her, and Gu Xi knew they were cut from the same cloth.
Aunt Lan apologized to Luo Ningshuang as she entered, “Sorry, Ningshuang, my grandson’s got a cold, so I’m a bit late.”
Luo Ningshuang nodded nonchalantly, “No worries. Just give me a call next time. This is Gu Xi; she’ll be living with me from now on.”
Aunt Lan glanced at Gu Xi, noting her classical beauty and calm demeanor. She’d never seen Luo Ningshuang bring anyone home before—well, except for the uninvited guest behind her. Aunt Lan greeted, “Miss Gu Xi.”
Gu Xi smiled, feeling a bit awkward at the formal address, “Oh, no need for that, Aunt Lan. Just call me Gu Xi.”
Aunt Lan nodded, carrying groceries into the kitchen, “I’ll start cooking.”
Luo Ningshuang turned to the glamorous woman with a cold tone, “Mo Yuze, have you stared enough?”
Mo Yuze, hearing this, sashayed forward with a sultry grin, teasingly hooking an arm around Luo Ningshuang, “Isn’t this the beauty who got drunk last time? Didn’t you say you weren’t into women? How come you’re suddenly married to one?”
Gu Xi, embarrassed, turned her head away. Mo Yuze’s words brought back hazy memories of that drunken night, making her heart race uncontrollably.
Luo Ningshuang swatted Mo Yuze’s hand away, “Do I need to report my decisions to you?”
Mo Yuze dramatically clutched her chest, sitting next to Gu Xi, “After all these years of friendship, I still can’t melt this icy heart of yours.”
She then hugged Gu Xi, pretending to cry, before suddenly leaning close to her neck and sniffing, “Oh, girl, you’ve got a natural scent—like milk.”
Gu Xi grew even more flustered and looked to Luo Ningshuang for help. Luo Ningshuang stepped forward, pulling Mo Yuze away, “Come with me.”
Luo Ningshuang dragged her upstairs, and Gu Xi let out a sigh of relief. That was too awkward!
Inside the room, with the door closed, Mo Yuze crossed her arms over her chest, feigning a pitiful expression, “What are you gonna do? I’m telling you, I won’t submit to your tyranny.”
Luo Ningshuang shot her a cold glance, “Enough with the drama.”
Mo Yuze pouted, “Not done yet. You said you weren’t into women, so fine, I backed off. But now you’re married to one? You know I’ve had feelings for you. Why won’t you even consider me?”
Luo Ningshuang didn’t hold back, “First, you’re not my type. Second, you’re too much of a flirt, claiming to like every pretty woman you see. Third, I don’t like women—or men, for that matter. As for Gu Xi, it’s just a partnership. Once I root out the company’s problems, this arrangement will end.”
Mo Yuze clicked her tongue, “You really haven’t changed. But that girl seems nice. If you don’t want her, don’t be too kind to her. You broke my heart back then, you know. Good thing I’m tough.”
With that, Mo Yuze opened the door and strutted downstairs, throwing a jab over her shoulder, “If you don’t start cherishing people, you’ll end up alone forever.”
Luo Ningshuang watched Mo Yuze’s dramatic exit, rubbing her temples in frustration, muttering, “Alone forever? Maybe.”
When Gu Xi saw them come downstairs, the mood seemed tense. Mo Yuze sat next to her, and Gu Xi braced herself, worried about more awkward questions.
But Mo Yuze just pulled out her phone, smirking, “Come on, girl, let’s exchange contact info.”
Gu Xi relaxed—exchanging numbers was fine, as long as the teasing stopped. After swapping numbers, Mo Yuze started flirting again, her finger playfully tracing over Gu Xi’s arm, “If that ice queen can’t satisfy you, come find me.”
Luo Ningshuang, watching coldly, was clearly struggling to keep her temper in check. One more spark, and she’d explode.
Gu Xi, exasperated, pushed Mo Yuze’s hand away, “Sorry, your style’s a bit too flashy for me.”
Mo Yuze blinked, stunned, “What? Me, flashy? How could you not be charmed by me just now?”
Luo Ningshuang took a deep breath and cut in, “Whether she was charmed or not, your behavior definitely counts as harassment.”
Mo Yuze looked at Gu Xi pitifully, “Really? Did I harass you?”
Gu Xi hesitated, feeling a bit guilty seeing Mo Yuze’s dejected expression. Luckily, Aunt Lan emerged, announcing, “Dinner’s ready. Come eat.”
Relieved, Gu Xi escaped to the dining table, inhaling the aroma of a dish, “Wow, smells amazing. I’m starving.”
Mo Yuze flicked her short hair and sat beside Gu Xi, eating slowly to appear elegant, “So, Gu Xi, what kind of person do you like?”
Gu Xi nearly choked. As someone who preferred soft, delicate types, she couldn’t say it out loud. Meanwhile, Luo Ningshuang sat on Gu Xi’s other side, leaving her sandwiched between them, quietly eating.
She had a sinking feeling these two could go from potential lovers to sworn enemies.
Mo Yuze huffed, deciding not to press Gu Xi further, and started eating. But the peace was short-lived.
After dinner, Aunt Lan tidied up and left, but Mo Yuze refused to go home, acting like she owned the place. Luo Ningshuang, suppressing her irritation, said, “You know I only have one guest room, which is Gu Xi’s. If you stay, you’re sleeping on the couch.”
It was true—Gu Xi had seen the other rooms converted into a study, gym, and music room.
“No problem, I’ll sleep with Gu Xi.” Mo Yuze said, wrapping an arm around her.
Gu Xi froze. Two women with their inclinations sharing a bed? Way too risky.
Luo Ningshuang’s patience snapped, “Couch or leave.”
“Hey, we’ve been friends for years, and you treat me like this? I’m heartbroken, just dumped, and no one’s comforting me.” Mo Yuze wailed, tears streaming down her face.
Though Gu Xi knew it was mostly an act, she couldn’t help but sympathize, having been dumped herself. She patted Mo Yuze’s back, “You take the room. I’ll sleep on the couch.”
Mo Yuze immediately protested, “No way.”
She’d gone through all this effort for her friend, and letting Gu Xi take the couch would ruin her plan. Such a stubborn woman, Luo Ningshuang!
Gu Xi was confused, “Then what do you want?”
Mo Yuze winked mischievously, “You sleep with Luo Ningshuang, and I’ll take your room.”
Gu Xi shook her head vigorously. After their recent intimate encounter, sharing a bed now would be mortifying.
“Fine, Gu Xi’s with me tonight. Stop causing trouble.” Luo Ningshuang suddenly said.
Gu Xi looked at her, surprised, but saw the resignation in her eyes. Luo Ningshuang was just trying to shut Mo Yuze up.
Were they really going to share a bed tonight?
“Hehe, deal. I’m off to bed.” Mo Yuze chirped, then added, “Oh, your grandpa wants us over for dinner tomorrow to celebrate you being off the market.” She then dashed to Gu Xi’s room.
Gu Xi nearly laughed. Mo Yuze’s mention of the grandpa amused her. Luo Ningshuang was so accomplished, yet her grandpa seemed desperate to marry her off.
In her past life, Gu Xi hadn’t heard much about Luo Ningshuang’s family, only gossip about her, most of which was unreliable.
“Stop daydreaming. Get some rest. You’re coming to work with me tomorrow.” Luo Ningshuang said, snapping Gu Xi out of her thoughts.
Gu Xi nodded and followed her upstairs. Once in the bedroom, her nerves kicked in, especially when Luo Ningshuang went to the bathroom. Gu Xi sat on the bed, fidgeting, her mind racing. She was into women, and now she had to share a bed with a gorgeous woman she’d already been intimate with. Slapping her cheeks, she shook her head, trying to distract herself with her phone.
Opening QQ, she saw her friend’s unanswered message. Gu Xi replied: Overthinking it. Long story, but your sis got married today.
Thinking her friend was offline, she was about to start writing when she saw them typing.
Friend: What? You’re married? Who’s gonna be my CP now? I was right there! One step too late.
Gu Xi: Long story. Forget it. Wanna write?
Friend: Write what? My partner’s been stolen. No way, let’s meet IRL. I’m stealing you back.
Gu Xi: You serious?
Friend: Kidding. Congrats!
Gu Xi sighed in relief. Good thing it was a joke.
Luo Ningshuang emerged from the bathroom, and Gu Xi nearly had a nosebleed. The loosely tied bathrobe barely covered her chest. Seeing Gu Xi’s stunned look, Luo Ningshuang smirked, “You going or not?”
Gu Xi swallowed hard, put down her phone, and rushed to the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face, muttering, “Don’t look, don’t look—ugh, how can I not when we’re sharing a bed?”
Unaware of Gu Xi’s turmoil, Luo Ningshuang noticed her phone light up. Glancing at it, she muttered, “No password? So trusting.”
She saw the friend’s message: Fine, let’s write. Your CEO novel’s word count is low. Hurry up, or you’ll miss the rankings.
Luo Ningshuang raised an eyebrow, “An author, huh? Interesting.”
She almost put the phone down but scrolled up, reading more. Her eyes narrowed, and she set the phone aside.
Lying in bed with some documents, her mood soured further, “The company’s parasites are getting bolder. Do they think I’m a pushover?”
Gu Xi, done showering, realized she’d forgotten clean clothes. Hesitating over her worn ones, she sighed, knowing she wasn’t sleeping alone. Bracing herself, she called out, “Uh, sugar da—er, I mean, could you grab me some clean clothes, President?”
Luo Ningshuang smirked, “President? Only a novelist would talk like that.”
With a playful glint, she grabbed a bathrobe from the closet and passed it through a crack in the door to Gu Xi.
