Accidentally Sold Myself (Rebirth) - Chapter 5
5: Prank
Gu Xi didn’t notice the mischievous glint in Luo Ningshuang’s eyes. After taking the bathrobe and putting it on, she suddenly realized something was missing!
Feeling like she might cry, she wanted to sleep in proper clothes, including underwear. Why didn’t Luo Ningshuang give her any underwear?
She felt a bit embarrassed to ask her to fetch some. If they were just friends, it wouldn’t matter, but their relationship… was a bit ambiguous!
Looking in the mirror, she confirmed nothing was exposed.
Gu Xi walked out of the room, the hem of the bathrobe feeling chilly against her skin. She didn’t notice Luo Ningshuang struggling to suppress her laughter.
She hurried downstairs and knocked urgently on the door, “Knock, knock!”
When Mo Yuze saw Gu Xi, she thought something had happened to her, seeing her aggrieved expression. But upon noticing Gu Xi clutching the hem of her bathrobe, Mo Yuze understood Luo Ningshuang’s prank and couldn’t help but grin.
Gu Xi squeezed through the door, found a pair of underwear, and turned around to catch Mo Yuze’s mocking smile. As she stormed into the bathroom, she snapped, “I’m sleeping here tonight.”
Mo Yuze immediately wiped the smile off her face and tried to placate her, “No way, little ancestor, let’s talk this out. Besides, you’re now legally married to Ningshuang. It’s not appropriate to sleep with me.”
Fully dressed, Gu Xi opened the door and stubbornly retorted to Mo Yuze, “I don’t care, I’m dragging you down with me.”
Great, a temperamental little ancestor. But don’t take it out on her! Mo Yuze’s eyes darted around before she smiled and said, “Luo Ningshuang is usually very meticulous. She wouldn’t have built such a big company on her own otherwise. Did you offend her somehow? Is she deliberately getting back at you? Are you just going to take it and not fight back to reclaim your ‘wifely authority’?”
Offend her? All she did was pin Luo Ningshuang down and… well, do this and that. Gu Xi pouted. Fine, she was in the wrong. Still, she stubbornly corrected, “What wifely authority? It’s husbandly authority, hmph.”
“Yes, yes, yes,” Mo Yuze said, relieved to have coaxed Gu Xi away. She quickly shut and locked the door, deciding that no matter who knocked, she wouldn’t open it until dawn.
Gu Xi marched back to Luo Ningshuang’s room with her head held high. Seeing her still reviewing documents, Gu Xi impulsively snatched them away. “Didn’t you say you have to get up early tomorrow? Why are you still up so late?”
Luo Ningshuang nodded, obediently lay down, and said, “Good night, sleep early.”
Wait, what? She just went to sleep like that? Shouldn’t she have exploded in anger and scolded her for grabbing the documents? Gu Xi had prepared a whole speech to argue back, but it got stuck in her throat, like punching cotton—completely powerless.
Swallowing her frustration, she lay down too.
But Gu Xi couldn’t sleep. As a full-time night owl, her schedule was completely reversed. Tossing and turning, she stared at Luo Ningshuang’s slender back. Unconsciously, memories of her and Huang Lejia surfaced—how they used to cuddle together. Gu Xi was stubborn, so stubborn that even after all these years, she still couldn’t let go of her.
Closing her eyes, Gu Xi silently repeated to herself: You need to let go. In your last life, you wasted so much youth on her. In this life, just love money and live freely.
In the middle of the night, Luo Ningshuang woke up freezing. Though it was May, the northern nights were still chilly.
Meanwhile, Gu Xi had wrapped herself in the blanket like a caterpillar. Luo Ningshuang adjusted her bathrobe, folded her arms, and sneered, “This girl wouldn’t do this on purpose, would she?”
Getting up, Luo Ningshuang found a rope, a mischievous smirk creeping onto her face again.
It took tremendous effort to tie Gu Xi up along with the blanket. Patting the bundle, she laughed, “Such a commotion, and she’s still sleeping? What a pig.”
Then, Luo Ningshuang grabbed the air conditioner remote and set it to 30°C. Lying back down, she soon got up again, found earplugs, and stuffed them in her ears. Satisfied, she went back to sleep, the smile lingering on her lips even as she drifted off.
“Ugh, hot, so hot!” Gu Xi woke up sweating, only to find she couldn’t move. She was tightly bound, barely able to bend her knees or turn over.
“Hey, sugar daddy, CEO boss, I was wrong! Is it because my sleeping posture is a bit messy? Do you have to be this cruel? Hey, get up, your old lady is getting mad!” Gu Xi shouted for ages, but Luo Ningshuang didn’t budge. Squinting, she noticed the earplugs.
Luo Ningshuang frowned and turned over but didn’t wake up.
Helpless, Gu Xi yelled louder, hoping Mo Yuze downstairs could hear, “Mo Yuze, Mo Yuze! Fire! Fire!”
Downstairs, Mo Yuze stirred slightly, hearing something.
“Hmph, whatever! Not opening the door until dawn.” She rolled over and went back to sleep.
“You jerk, Luo Ningshuang, I’m keeping score of this grudge! Ugh, so hot!” Gu Xi finally gave up struggling. The more she moved, the hotter she got!
“Calm mind, cool body. Amitabha, don’t get mad, don’t get mad.” Gu Xi chanted to herself, but drenched in sweat, all she wanted was a cold shower.
Luo Ningshuang’s biological clock woke her up early. After a moment, she remembered Gu Xi. Turning to look, she saw Gu Xi’s resentful expression and barely held back a laugh. “This is your punishment. Do you know what you did wrong?”
Gu Xi nodded obediently, widening her eyes pitifully. “Big sister, I was wrong. I’m so hot, can you please untie me?”
Seeing the sweat on Gu Xi’s forehead and her pitiful gaze, Luo Ningshuang felt a pang of guilt for going too far. She untied the ropes.
But the moment she was free, Gu Xi threw off the blanket, straddled Luo Ningshuang, grabbed her bathrobe, and buried her face in her neck, wiping all her sweat onto Luo Ningshuang’s neck and collarbone.
Luo Ningshuang pursed her lips. Though the sweat made her slightly uncomfortable, she didn’t dislike it. Instead, she felt a strange sensation from their skin-to-skin contact.
After wiping off her sweat, Gu Xi looked up at Luo Ningshuang’s unreadable expression. Oblivious to the mood, she patted her cheek and said, “Big sister, I hold grudges. If you tie me up again, I won’t mind mutual destruction.”
Luo Ningshuang’s lips curved into a cold smile. “Can you get off now?” she asked icily.
Gu Xi glanced at Luo Ningshuang’s collarbone, where the bathrobe barely covered her, tempting one to peek further. Swallowing hard, Gu Xi quickly got off.
Luo Ningshuang got out of bed, grabbed some clothes, and went to the bathroom to shower, leaving Gu Xi in a daze. It wasn’t until the sound of running water filled the air that Gu Xi snapped out of it.
Grabbing her phone, Gu Xi went downstairs to her room to change, only to find the door locked. Furious, she pounded on it, “Bang, bang, bang!”
Mo Yuze yawned and slowly opened the door. Gu Xi shoved her way in, grabbed some clothes, and headed to the bathroom to change.
Mo Yuze rolled her eyes and shuffled out, sitting at the dining table, yawning uncontrollably.
Luo Ningshuang, now dressed and ready, came downstairs and said to Mo Yuze, “Sort out your own breakfast. Also, tell Gu Xi that being late means a pay cut.”
“Wait, you’re not going with her?” Mo Yuze asked as Luo Ningshuang headed for the door.
Luo Ningshuang raised an eyebrow and smiled meaningfully. “Isn’t there you?”
“Wait, what do you mean? I have to take her?” Mo Yuze called out, but Luo Ningshuang left without looking back. Realizing she hadn’t brushed her teeth or washed her face, Mo Yuze hurried back to her room.
Gu Xi, now showered and changed, saw Mo Yuze rushing around and asked, “Why are you in such a hurry?”
“I have to take you to Ningshuang’s company. Also, she said being late means a pay cut.” Mo Yuze replied, heading to the bathroom to wash up.
But Gu Xi grabbed her.
“What? A pay cut for being late? Forget washing your face or brushing your teeth—get me there now!” Gu Xi dragged Mo Yuze out the door.
Poor Mo Yuze, face unwashed, teeth unbrushed, hair a mess, was forced to play chauffeur.
“Wait, brushing my teeth wouldn’t take long!” Mo Yuze protested, sensing this would happen. Damn that Luo Ningshuang!
“No way, hurry up!”
Resigned, Mo Yuze drove Gu Xi to LS headquarters, without even having breakfast. What a mess!
At the LS underground parking lot, Mo Yuze refused to get out of the car. She looked like a disaster—how could she face anyone?
“No way, you’re coming with me. I’ve never worked a job!” Gu Xi, a full-time homebody, had never dealt with such a big company. She probably wouldn’t even know where the entrance was.
“No way, I’m not going. You didn’t let me wash my face or brush my teeth, and now I can’t be seen like this.” Mo Yuze insisted, staying put.
“No one will know you didn’t wash your face or brush your teeth. Just fix your hair, take me in, and you can leave.” Gu Xi said, trying to drag her out.
When Mo Yuze wouldn’t budge, Gu Xi’s tone turned icy. “Are you coming or not?”
Mo Yuze glanced at her, sensing the little ancestor’s temper flaring. Sighing in defeat, she got out. She didn’t know why she gave in, but she had a feeling that resisting would be trouble. Normally so conscious of her appearance, now she was a mess.
Pulling up her collar to hide her face, Mo Yuze led Gu Xi out of the parking lot. They took the underground elevator to the LS lobby, heading for the private elevator, but a receptionist stopped them. “Excuse me, miss, do you have an appointment?”
Mo Yuze desperately didn’t want to show her face. Luckily, Gu Xi stepped in boldly. “What appointment? I’m the president’s new assistant. Tell Luo Ningshuang to wait for me.”
With that, Gu Xi pulled Mo Yuze into the elevator, leaving the stunned receptionist behind.
A passing colleague nudged the receptionist. “What are you staring at?”
“Oh! The president got a new assistant. A super bold one,” the receptionist said, still processing Gu Xi’s words.
“The president has a new assistant? How did I not know?”
“That’s what she said!” the receptionist replied honestly.
“Are you dumb? You just let her in because she said so? You’ll get fired if she’s not legit.”
“What? No way! What do I do? Should I chase after her?” the receptionist asked, panicking.
“No idea. Pray she’s really the assistant.”
Gu Xi took the elevator to the 26th floor, where the president’s office was. They ran into Secretary Jiang, and Mo Yuze finally spoke. “Little ancestor, I’m heading back. At least let me change.”
“Hehe, sorry about that. Go on back!” Gu Xi, now with Secretary Jiang, let Mo Yuze go.
As they left, Mo Yuze muttered, “Use me and toss me aside. Just like Luo Ningshuang—heartless, hmph!”
