Addicted to You - Chapter 4
The boy looked at her and asked, “New student, what about you?”
Xu Yu continued what she was doing. “I don’t really like it.”
Beside her, Guan Xiao burst into laughter, and Zhou Yiheng curled his lips into a half-smile.
He looked calm, but her earlobes gave her away—they were red, like they were bleeding.
She must be really nervous.
Thinking of this, the corners of his mouth lifted again.
Then, he moved his chair closer to her, pulled up his collar, and lay down on the desk with his eyes closed.
The sound of the chair scraping made Xu Yu glance to the side, but after just one look, she turned back.
The boy’s elbow was already touching her uniform. Xu Yu tucked in her arm, put some distance between them, and only then felt a bit more at ease.
But Zhou Yiheng seemed to have a monitor on her, knowing exactly what she was doing, and let out a quiet chuckle. Xu Yu was startled, feeling a chill down her spine. She sat up even straighter.
During the whole class, Xu Yu was furiously taking notes. Even when she paused for a few seconds, she didn’t dare glance sideways.
The person next to her, however, slept through the entire lesson. It was like the two of them weren’t even in the same room.
When the bell rang, Wang Sheng, the teacher, left immediately without taking up any of their break time.
If this were back in Nanjiang, the teacher would have taken up half the break and said it was for their future.
The sleeping boy seemed to wake up, made a bit of noise, then went quiet again.
Xu Yu couldn’t help but look over. His head was facing her direction, one hand propped under his head, the other resting casually on his leg, sleeping peacefully.
His eyelashes were long—how could a boy have such long eyelashes? His eye bags (aegyo-sal) were prominent, and his brow bones were high. His nose was straight and slightly hooked from the side. His lips weren’t the usual thin type seen on boys; his lower lip had a bit of fullness.
Xu Yu realized that he was indeed very good-looking. No wonder so many girls liked him.
Just as she was secretly studying his face, the boy lying down suddenly opened his eyes. Zhou Yiheng looked straight at her, with no attempt to look away.
Xu Yu froze under his gaze, momentarily forgetting what she was doing. Her face flushed instantly, and she pretended nothing happened as she turned back to her notebook.
Song Yuan came over and noticed how red her face was, showing concern: “Yuyu, why’s your face so red? Are you feeling unwell?” As she spoke, she already had her hand on Xu Yu’s forehead.
Xu Yu smiled awkwardly. “No, I’m just a bit hot.”
The boy lying next to her laughed at the lie she had just told, and Xu Yu’s face grew even hotter.
“You’ve zipped your jacket all the way up—no wonder you’re hot.” As he said this, he reached over and unzipped it for her. “See? Isn’t that cooler?”
Xu Yu smiled and nodded.
While the two were talking, Zhou Yiheng had already sat up from the desk and casually flipped through his textbook.
Guan Xiao, who couldn’t bear to be apart from him, came over. “Miss me, Ah Heng?”
Zhou Yiheng rolled his eyes internally countless times but only gave one word in return: “Scram.”
“Come on, we’ve still got five minutes left of break.” As he spoke, he plopped himself onto the desk. With the desk shaking slightly, the tall, upright thermos bottle toppled over with a loud “clang,” and the four of them looked over.
Xu Yu quickly picked it up, but the other three had already turned their attention to her.
Everyone seemed surprised by her overly quick reaction, but she acted as if nothing happened and kept her head down in her book.
Zhou Yiheng glanced over at her slightly flushed face and then turned his gaze to Guan Xiao sitting on the desk.
Guan Xiao feared that look the most—it felt like a thousand blades cutting him.
“I didn’t do it on purpose, really. I just wanted to sit down.” Without needing a reminder, Guan Xiao wisely apologized to Xu Yu.
This was the third “sorry” she had heard today. Xu Yu waved it off and said it was fine.
At that moment, the warning bell rang. Song Yuan said goodbye, and Guan Xiao returned to his seat.
The little commotion earlier didn’t really ease the tension between the two of them.
Xu Yu thought he would continue sleeping, so she pulled out the materials she’d need in advance and opened to the correct page to avoid making noise flipping pages later. After all, she felt more at ease when he was asleep. The less they talked, the better it was for her.
“You’ve opened the wrong page,” came a voice from beside her.
She paused, then checked her book—she was sure this was where the teacher had stopped yesterday.
“The next page,” he added.
Someone who often slept in class or skipped lessons shouldn’t be that familiar with the textbook. Just as she was about to trust herself, the teacher said, “Turn to page twelve and take a few minutes to preview.”
Page twelve—exactly what he said.
The boy chuckled. “Didn’t believe me?”
Embarrassed, she turned the page. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him casually doodling on his paper with a pen.
Suddenly, she remembered what those girls in the supermarket said—he was actually very good at studying.
September in Beicheng was still hot, so the sun rose early. When she was in Nanjiang, she used to get up before dawn, and she had kept that habit. When Xu Yu got to class, there were only a few people there.
She pulled out her textbook to memorize vocabulary when she heard a knock at the door. She looked up—it was that girl who stood next to Zhou Yiheng that day.
Xu Xuan smiled sweetly and asked if she could come in. No one responded; everyone had their heads down studying. Then Xu Yu noticed her wide, round eyes staring.
The girl seemed to forget how rude she had been that day. She walked over to Xu Yu and still smiled as she said, “Classmate, do you know where Zhou Yiheng sits?”
Xu Yu pointed to the seat beside her but didn’t receive a single “thank you.” She looked down again and continued memorizing vocabulary.
Ten minutes before class started, Zhou Yiheng and his group came in through the back door.
Guan Xiao had sharp eyes and immediately noticed the milk and heart-shaped bread on his desk.
“Whoa, Ah Heng, your luck is amazing—you got a love-filled breakfast.”
Footsteps drew near, and Zhou Yiheng tossed his bag onto the back of his chair. Xu Yu felt a gust of wind blow past, and out of the corner of her eye, someone appeared in her space. Then she heard him ask, “You got this for me?”
Xu Yu thought he was talking to someone else, but when no one responded after a while, she realized he was speaking to her. Her eyes widened instantly—this guy was a bit narcissistic. “It wasn’t me,” she said, waving her hand.
Zhou Yiheng looked very sure it was her. “Oh? Then who was it?” He seemed to be teasing her on purpose.
Xu Yu, for some reason, fell right into his trap and suddenly felt guilty.
Her face turned red, and she blurted out loudly, “It really wasn’t me!” She had completely forgotten to explain who actually brought the breakfast.
Seeing her like that, Zhou Yiheng thought she really looked like a wrongly accused child.
He nodded but clearly didn’t believe her.
She was helpless. In the past, she’d also been falsely accused, but after explaining once, she didn’t care anymore—if you’re upright, you don’t fear shadows. But this… being accused of giving breakfast to a boy—she really couldn’t accept it.
Frustrated, she blurted out, “You’re so shameless!”
