- Chapter 2 - Don't Think Your Pity Act Will Work on Me...
Huo Lanjing glanced lazily at Luo Le, offered no response, and strode inside.
Captain Lin watched their retreating figures, sighed, and turned to leave in the opposite direction.
From the military base entrance to Huo Lanjing’s residence, not a single word passed between them.
Luo Le paid no mind, his gaze sweeping over the place he had spent the past three months. He seemed to be piecing together a Huo Lanjing he had missed through these traces of daily life.
As they walked, Luo Le chattered on about his own experiences.
Husband, you won’t believe what happened on my way here! I got caught in a starburst—it was so terrifying! I even crashed on a planet with terrible air quality and nothing there. Luckily, their military rescued me…
Huo Lanjing lowered his gaze and saw the youth’s eyes sparkling and his mouth moving animatedly.
Originally, Huo Lanjing had been preparing to leave for the 7th Planet when a letter arrived from Luo Le’s teacher, informing him that he was already on his way to find him.
This teacher was Huo Lanjing’s former mentor, and out of respect for him, Huo Lanjing had stayed.
He never expected Luo Le to arrive so late.
Over the years, he had fought countless battles abroad, traversing the Empire’s route to Planet 5 countless times.
A starburst had never occurred before.
Maybe that little young master wandered off to play again and is late, making up excuses to avoid getting scolded.
The thought darkened Huo Lanjing’s expression.
Do you need something? His tone carried a hint of displeasure.
Luo Le unconsciously tightened his grip on Huo Lanjing’s arm.
Huo Lanjing’s demeanor remained as cold and distant as ever.
After a long pause, Luo Le finally looked up, his face filled with grievance, and pointed to the bandages on his hand.
What’s this? You didn’t even notice my injuries? Aren’t you going to show any concern?
Huo Lanjing glanced indifferently at the bandages. With AS-IC Treatment Pods now standard, even the most basic BB-C models could fully restore any injury short of brain death. Bandages were utterly unnecessary.
Still, Huo Lanjing took Luo Le’s hand.
Luo Le froze, then lowered his gaze to see Huo Lanjing, clad in his deep blue military uniform, leaning down to examine his hand with intense focus.
Huo Lanjing’s warmth radiated through their joined wrists, and Luo Le’s heart began to race.
Suddenly, Huo Lanjing’s grip tightened, causing Luo Le to groan in pain.
What are you doing?
At that moment, Huo Lanjing tossed a card at him.
What’s this?
A Star Need Card. What exactly are you doing here?
Seeing that Huo Lanjing wasn’t going to explain the Star Need Card, Luo Le didn’t press the issue, afraid of angering him.
Luo Le pursed his lips and turned his face away, refusing to meet Huo Lanjing’s gaze.
Can’t I come see my husband? You haven’t been home in ages. I hardly recognize you anymore.
Huo Lanjing had initially assumed Luo Le had come for some legitimate business, but now he realized it was just this.
He’d forgotten how spoiled and willful Luo Le had always been.
Perhaps this was just another one of his impulsive whims.
Huo Lanjing straightened his rumpled clothes, which Luo Le had disheveled, and stared at him. Alright, you’ve seen me. When are you leaving?
Luo Le’s heart surged with anger at Huo Lanjing’s cold demeanor.
Fortunately, reason restrained him before he could lash out.
If he lost his temper, Huo Lanjing would undoubtedly throw him out.
That can’t happen.
He softened his voice. Husband, we haven’t seen each other in so long. Can’t I stay a few more days?
Bandages wrapped around Luo Le’s neck and both hands, and his face was pale.
If this were ancient Earth, Huo Lanjing might have believed he was genuinely injured.
Luo Le, are you done acting? If you’re done, get out.
Luo Le’s heart froze. The smile on his lips finally faltered.
His spirits plummeted, and his wounds throbbed faintly.
As his gaze drifted downward, he accidentally noticed the bandages on his body. Luo Le suddenly remembered that these things had been abandoned long ago.
Remembering Huo Lanjing’s earlier actions, Luo Le finally understood.
He roughly tore at the bandage on his left hand.
But it was wrapped too tightly, and he only managed to rip a small opening.
The brute force caused the wound to bleed again, the crimson liquid seeping faintly through the bandage.
Luo Le held out his hand, as if presenting evidence, and looked at Huo Lanjing with puppy-like eyes.
Huo Lanjing paused, surprised that Luo Le was actually injured.
But when he saw the bright red bl00d, an inexplicable anger surged in his chest, making his voice even colder.
Luo Le, don’t think you can play the victim and make me return to the Empire. It’s not happening.
Luo Le’s heart clenched painfully at those words.
Of course he knew it was impossible.
Once, after winning against the Lin Family’s young master in a competition, he had earned the young master’s resentment.
On his way home, the young master arranged a car accident.
Luo Le broke two ribs and remained unconscious for three days.
When he woke up, he immediately told Huo Lanjing about the incident, subtly hinting for him to return.
But Huo Lanjing simply said, I understand, in a flat tone before rushing off to attend to other matters.
