Admiral, Your Wife Is Gone ABO - Chapter 21
He heard the young man’s hurried footsteps as he dashed toward the exit. Turning around, he called out, Where are you going?
Our store only has one test-drive area. I’m going to check if it’s available right now. Please wait a moment.
No need. I just want to sit in it, not drive it.
The young man paused, then tried to persuade him, You should still test-drive it, just to check for any issues.
Luo Le knew the young man was worried that if there were any problems with the mecha later, he might come back to make trouble.
In the past, he would simply pick out a model, make his requests, and have it delivered directly to his home.
Why was this so complicated?
No need, he said, his tone tinged with impatience.
The young man picked up on his irritation. After a moment of hesitation, he stepped forward and pressed a button.
In an instant, the glass wall retracted into the ground.
Without the barrier, the mecha’s polished surface gleamed even brighter, exuding an even more premium aura.
Luo Le’s satisfaction grew with each glance. He approached the mecha, activated it, and allowed the beam of light to draw him into the main control room.
Inside, he found a seat, three control consoles, and three rows of buttons.
The black-and-white color scheme starkly contrasted with the mecha’s exterior, creating a completely different aesthetic.
He reached out and placed his hand on the small, illuminated screen to his right.
Three luminous screens flickered to life before him.
Luo Le frowned at the various parameters displayed on the screens, his mind brimming with questions.
With the previous C-Class Mecha, he couldn’t even access the control interface, let alone enter the cockpit.
What was going on? Could he actually pilot this mecha?
He tried to raise the mecha’s left arm, but after waiting for a long moment, there was no response.
He attempted several other commands, but each yielded the same result.
Still… no luck?
Ever since the mecha’s twin eyes had lit up with blue light, the young shop assistant’s heart had been racing.
He was terrified that Luo Le might suddenly activate the mecha under his supervision and smash the shop’s merchandise.
A moment later, Luo Le emerged from the cockpit and patted the mecha’s arm.
I’ll take this one.
The assistant froze, stunned that Luo Le would actually buy it.
He wouldn’t have to leave tomorrow!
Excellent! How would you like to pay?
Luo Le instinctively reached for his Star Credit Card, but then remembered he’d be exposed if he used it and quickly withdrew his hand.
Smart Brain payment.
Very well, sir. Please follow me.
After completing the transaction, Luo Le stored the mecha in his storage ring and left.
The young assistant watched his retreating figure, his heart overflowing with gratitude.
The shopkeeper, watching the transaction screen, still couldn’t believe he’d misjudged the situation.
Good thing I didn’t say anything earlier.
Luo Le retraced his steps, but as he climbed over the wall, he noticed the stepping stone was gone.
He sat on the wall, his legs dangling in the air.
Frowning at the faint mark left by the stone, he suddenly felt an ominous premonition.
A familiar voice echoed in his ear.
Madam, what are you doing sitting on the wall like this?
He turned toward the voice and saw Colonel Lin, dressed in a light blue military uniform, standing beneath the tree in front of him, accompanied by seven or eight soldiers.
Luo Le felt a pang of annoyance. He should have climbed back over the wall the moment he sensed something was wrong.
But what were the odds that Colonel Lin would catch him at this exact moment?
After a moment’s thought, he raised his head and demanded, Are you following me?
Colonel Lin wore a fake smile. How dare I? I’m merely here under orders to apprehend a new recruit who slipped out, violated military discipline, and stayed out all night. I just didn’t expect to find Madam among them.
Luo Le paused. Not to be rude, but these men had clearly been waiting here for a long time.
They were obviously here to arrest him.
With Colonel Lin’s status, why would he bother with such a trivial matter?
Luo Le forced a couple of dry laughs and countered, What a coincidence! I just happened to hear about this and thought I’d come check it out before telling you. I didn’t expect you’d be here too.
Colonel Lin’s lips twitched. The madam could lie without even blushing.
Really?
Luo Le nodded vigorously, as if afraid to delay his admission.
Madam, why don’t you come down? It’s windy up there. You might catch a cold.
The strong wind didn’t even ruffle a strand of his hair.
Luo Le’s lips twitched again. Colonel Lin clearly understood the art of yin and yang.
No wonder he was Huo Lanjing’s right-hand man. His words were just as infuriatingly smug.
What are you standing around for? Help the madam down.
Soon, Luo Le found two pairs of hands reaching up to him. After gauging the height, he finally relented.
Just as he was about to reach down, someone called out from behind.
He turned to see Feng Cheng looking up at him from below.
Brother Le, what’s wrong?
Luo Le froze, instinctively glancing back at the man under the tree, who wore a half-amused expression.
Madam, you came out with friends?
It’s over.
Luo Le glanced at the awkward expressions on the faces behind him, his heart sinking.
Before Luo Le could plead for mercy, a video call suddenly flashed on his Smart Brain.
It was Huo Lanjing.
After a moment’s hesitation, Luo Le accepted the call.
As soon as the connection was established, Huo Lanjing’s deep, slightly hoarse voice came through Luo Le, what trouble are you causing now?
Trouble?
Luo Le’s heart skipped a beat. He lowered his gaze to his foot.
Does Huo Lanjing think everything I do is just causing trouble?
He suddenly felt like a joke.
Luo Le wiggled his foot and asked casually, When are you coming back?
Instantly, Huo Lanjing frowned, his gaze locking onto Luo Le.
Luo Le had originally intended to ask about the situation on the Ninth Planet, but the memory of that morning rose up like a zipper stuck fast.
Not a single word could escape his lips.
An eternity seemed to pass before Huo Lanjing finally spoke.
Seeing this, Colonel Lin waved his hand and led his subordinates away.
Meanwhile, Feng Cheng, who had been watching the entire scene from outside the wall, stared in disbelief.
My Le-ge is General Huo’s wife?!
As he was thinking this, a large hovercar pulled up in front of him—a military vehicle.
Soon, Luo Le was left alone, perched on the wall, stubbornly glaring at the figure on the glowing screen.
If the video feed hadn’t still been active, Luo Le would have thought the call had been disconnected.
He saw the indifference in Huo Lanjing’s eyes on the screen and knew that prolonging the conversation would be futile.
With a sigh, he said, Fine, Huo Lanjing. I want to go back to the Empire.
These words ignited Huo Lanjing like a fuse.
He raised his gaze slightly, his eyes piercing as he stared at Luo Le, his tone dangerously low.
Luo Le, what do you take the military for?
Luo Le’s fingers trembled slightly as he forced down his emotions.
After a moment of hesitation, he decided to explain. Huo Lanjing, whether you believe me or not, I genuinely didn’t know winning the competition would get me into the First Legion. Besides, you hate me, right? Shouldn’t you be welcoming my offer to leave with open arms?
As he spoke, a mocking smile twisted Luo Le’s lips.
He knew Huo Lanjing might not believe him even if he explained, but he had to say it anyway.
Silence fell again on the other end of the line. After a long pause, Huo Lanjing abruptly hung up.
Luo Le stared at the azure screen, his anger rising with each passing second.
In a fit of pique, he braced himself against the wall with one hand, leaped down, and landed awkwardly.
Distracted, he twisted his ankle, sending him sprawling forward.
Ah…
Hiatus Notice
I have an important exam coming up for the third time, and I need to prepare for it.
Additionally, the book’s performance hasn’t been great, and I’ve been struggling with writer’s block. I need some time to revise the manuscript.
I’m really sorry, it might take a few weeks.
