After a Disabled Alpha Marked a Yandere Female Lead - Chapter 38
Chapter 38: VIP
“Did you not sleep well last night?”
It was a rhetorical question. There were dark circles under Zhu Qingluo’s eyes, and her expression was far from good. Jiang Yun followed her gaze and saw her own hand still resting on Zhu Qingluo, the distance between them once again at zero. In this situation, it was clear that she was the one who had ruined Zhu Qingluo’s good night’s sleep. Jiang Yun’s expression froze for a moment; she wasn’t as indifferent as she usually was. She took her hand out from under the shirt and discreetly looked Zhu Qingluo over, from top to bottom, not missing a single detail.
“Where does it hurt? I’ll massage it for you.”
“I’m fine.”
Jiang Yun’s hand hung in the air, and she heard Zhu Qingluo continue, “Now that you’re awake, can you let go of me?”
“Mmm.” Perhaps out of guilt or because she was in a good mood this morning, Jiang Yun didn’t argue. She consciously moved a little farther away from Zhu Qingluo. Her gaze lingered for a few seconds on her slightly open neckline. Then, she lowered her eyes and got out of bed. While straightening her sleeves, she said to Zhu Qingluo, “Get some rest. We’ll leave a little later.”
At least she had some conscience. Zhu Qingluo was still tired, so she didn’t refuse. She heard the sounds in the room gradually fade and took the opportunity to fall back into a deep sleep. When she woke up again, the sun was high in the sky. She felt much more energized. She went out to have lunch with Jiang Yun, and an hour later, the two were ready to get in the car and head back. Jiang Yun seemed to have forgotten about the contract and didn’t privately seek out Li Wusi. Zhu Qingluo naturally didn’t bring it up. She had a plan: once they got back, Jiang Yun would be busy with work and wouldn’t be home much, so she wouldn’t care what Zhu Qingluo did.
Just as they were saying their goodbyes, Zhu Qingluo noticed a subtle change in the relationship between Jiang Yun and Xie Ke, as if they had reached a kind of silent understanding. Before she left, Xie Ke handed her a business card and invited her to an auction. Zhu Qingluo looked at Jiang Yun, who was walking over from the door. She didn’t want to get involved with Xie Ke and wouldn’t attend, but she politely accepted the card. Xie Ke didn’t seem to be in a hurry to promote herself, as if she was confident of the outcome. Jiang Yun saw this but didn’t comment. She bent down and got into the car. Jiang Yun sat beside her, and the car door was closed from the outside. The window slowly rose, cutting them off from the world and trapping them in a long silence. Soon, the Maybach drove out of the manor and gradually disappeared down the road.
Li Wusi watched the car’s back, then said to Xie Ke, who was beside her, “You saw it too, didn’t you?”
Xie Ke didn’t respond. Li Wusi didn’t spare her pride and said bluntly, “The newlyweds have a pretty good relationship, don’t they?” Then she shook her head, a hint of regret in her voice. “Your wish might not come true.” She looked like she was enjoying the drama.
Xie Ke’s face darkened. “Do you think you can control Jiang Yun by dragging her into this?”
Li Wusi’s expression froze for a moment. Then she shrugged. “Who knows?” She turned and said leisurely, “Speaking of which, I did you a favor. The rest is none of my business.” Xie Ke’s expression was a little off, but she didn’t deny it. Under Li Wusi’s gaze, her scheme was completely exposed, and now that it was out in the open, it seemed a little more cruel. Xie Ke left first.
“Hey!” Li Wusi’s playful expression disappeared as she looked at the gray sky. She was a little worried. “The weather is changing,” she mumbled to herself.
…
It was late afternoon. The weather had been bad on the way home, and soon after they returned, a light rain began to fall. The Jiang family’s home was just as they had left it. The housekeeper kept everything in perfect order, and Jiang Yun didn’t have to worry about a thing. Zhu Qingluo felt exhausted from the past few days, and now she could finally relax. After a quick tidy-up, she was about to go to her room when she heard the short ring of a phone. At that moment, Jiang Yun was in the bathroom, and the sound of water was running. Zhu Qingluo wheeled herself into the study and went to the landline. After a moment’s thought, she picked up the phone.
“Miss Jiang, good afternoon.” It was Zhu Jianghai’s voice.
“Miss Jiang?”
Zhu Qingluo looked around. No one was there. She said, “She’s not home.”
Recognizing her voice, Zhu Jianghai’s attitude immediately changed. He spoke to her condescendingly. “You brat, you saw my messages, didn’t you? You read them but didn’t reply?” Now that he had her, Zhu Jianghai was in a hurry to get her on his side. But Zhu Qingluo’s attitude was neither warm nor cold.
“Then what’s the hesitation? You don’t like her to begin with. If you join me, you won’t lose anything. You’ll only gain.” He kept nagging.
Then, Zhu Jianghai lowered his voice, trying his best to dissuade her. “To be blunt, Jiang Yun has bad luck. She was a jinx that killed her parents, and anyone who gets on the same boat as her will meet with misfortune. She survived herself, so she’s a freak of nature. What kind of person will she grow up to be?”
Zhu Qingluo’s brows furrowed. She was about to ask for more details when she caught a glimpse of a figure in the doorway. Zhu Qingluo’s heart jumped. Before Jiang Yun could get any closer, she hung up the phone naturally.
“Who were you talking to?”
Jiang Yun had changed into a silk bathrobe. Her long, slightly curly hair was loose, and the belt was tied loosely. She radiated a unique clean scent from her shower. With a hint of dampness, her beautiful features seemed a little softer, giving her a rare, refreshing elegance.
“My dad,” Zhu Qingluo said calmly. “He’s stubborn, so we talked for a while.”
Jiang Yun nodded slightly. She didn’t ask what they talked about. It seemed like a casual question. Zhu Qingluo turned her wheelchair and left the study. Jiang Yun’s gaze swept over the landline, lingering for a few seconds.
Zhu Qingluo was a little concerned about the unexpected phone call and worried that Zhu Jianghai would call back. But after observing, she found that Jiang Yun hadn’t received a “second call.” Zhu Qingluo felt relieved and went back to her room. As she was unpacking, she took out a document—the contract she had signed with Li Wusi. She was in deep thought, wondering how to handle it.
Late at night, she came out of her room. As she passed the living room, she saw that the lights were still on. Jiang Yun hadn’t gone back to her room. It was obvious she was waiting for Zhu Qingluo. “Did you need to see me?”
At her voice, Jiang Yun looked up from her magazine. In the warm light of the lamp, her expression was gentle, and her aura was exceptionally harmless, making it easy for someone to let their guard down. “I want to talk to you about something.”
Zhu Qingluo’s heart skipped a beat. She asked calmly, “What is it?”
Jiang Yun closed the magazine and placed it casually to the side. She rested her chin on her hand and gazed at Zhu Qingluo, not speaking for a long time. Zhu Qingluo felt uncomfortable under her stare. Her lips parted slightly, and she said with a hint of confusion, “You can’t sleep again tonight?”
Jiang Yun’s eyes glistened, and she slowly smiled. “Yes.” In her eyes, Zhu Qingluo was a lamb walking into a wolf’s den. To avoid scaring her away, Jiang Yun restrained her expression.
“What do you want?” Zhu Qingluo asked, looking at her face directly.
“Keep me company.”
Zhu Qingluo’s mood became complicated as she remembered the last night at the manor. It was one thing to do this outside, but now that they were home, she couldn’t share her sleeping time with Jiang Yun. She looked away and coughed lightly. “I’m not used to it…”
Jiang Yun frowned slightly, thinking to herself. She had been very restrained last night, only losing control at the very end, which led to Zhu Qingluo not sleeping well. “I won’t bother your sleep this time. We’ll each sleep on our own side.”
Jiang Yun seemed to not understand her rejection. Zhu Qingluo’s eyes were calm, and she said helplessly, “That’s not the issue.” Jiang Yun’s smile faded a little. She thought for a moment. What was the issue then? She got up from the sofa and walked to Zhu Qingluo with a relaxed posture.
“If you agree, I’ll take you to the studio myself tomorrow.”
The air was silent for a moment. Zhu Qingluo couldn’t help but look up at Jiang Yun, who was backlit by the light. Her expression was serious, her tone held a hint of expectation, and her jawline was slightly tense. Zhu Qingluo had a feeling that even if she insisted on refusing, Jiang Yun would have no other choice. But Jiang Yun would maintain her pride, walk past her, and pretend that their conversation tonight never happened. Zhu Qingluo’s heart began to waver.
