After a Disabled Alpha Marked a Yandere Female Lead - Chapter 39
Chapter 39: VIP
In the end, Zhu Qingluo figured it was fine. Jiang Yun wouldn’t be home for the next couple of days anyway. She was just switching rooms for a night, and she’d still be sleeping alone after that. No harm, no foul. A hug wouldn’t make her lose a limb.
When the butler saw Zhu Qingluo enter Jiang Yun’s room, he didn’t seem surprised at all, as if it was a common occurrence. Zhu Qingluo’s wheelchair paused. She felt like she had missed some key information, but the butler, for once, didn’t say anything extra. After helping her settle in, he left, even closing the door behind him. The attention to detail was impeccable. Zhu Qingluo looked away and glanced at the clock. It was already late. She silently wheeled herself to the bed. After the previous night, they already had a clear division of space. She lifted the covers, got into bed, and lay down.
The atmosphere in the room was quiet. Perhaps because she was mentally prepared, Zhu Qingluo didn’t feel awkward. On Jiang Yun’s bed, she surprisingly felt a strange sense of ease. She told herself it was just because she was used to this person, and for no other reason. She half-opened her eyes to observe the woman beside her, who seemed to be asleep. She guessed that Jiang Yun’s insomnia was probably psychological. The second night was unexpectedly peaceful. After a while, nothing happened. There was still a “boundary” between them, and according to Jiang Yun, this would ensure their safety.
Zhu Qingluo decided to trust her. Because it was so quiet, a wave of sleepiness washed over her. She fell into a deep sleep without realizing it.
The next day, Zhu Qingluo woke up feeling only slightly uncomfortable. She thought it was because she had been overthinking the night before and hadn’t slept well, and that it had nothing to do with the woman beside her. Jiang Yun’s mental state was just as refreshed as it had been yesterday. Zhu Qingluo didn’t think much of it and assumed Jiang Yun had kept her word. She skillfully got out of bed to wash up. The weather was clear, and the sky was a perfect blue. Everything went smoothly. At 8:30 in the morning, the car carrying Zhu Qingluo arrived at her office building on time.
Jiang Yun got out of the car first, then walked around to the other side and opened the door for Zhu Qingluo. Wu, her assistant, was pushing a wheelchair over, but she stopped in place when she saw what was happening. Zhu Qingluo was leaning against the car seat. When Jiang Yun appeared, a shadow fell over her, almost blocking out everything outside. She was a little stunned and hadn’t even had time to react when Jiang Yun leaned down. Without any chance for refusal, Jiang Yun picked her up from the car. Then, in one fluid motion, she turned and placed Zhu Qingluo in her wheelchair. The entire process only took a few seconds.
Zhu Qingluo didn’t even dare to look at Wu, her cheeks flushing with heat. She suspected Jiang Yun did it on purpose.
“Wu will take you home today. You can tell her anything, or you can ask me directly… you know my phone number.” Jiang Yun’s eyes, hidden behind her sunglasses, were bright and lively. Her lips curled into a slight smile as she gave her instructions at a slow, deliberate pace. Zhu Qingluo’s expression was a little unnatural, but she still agreed.
“Okay, I’m going,” she said dryly, putting her hands on the wheelchair’s armrests, ready to leave. But the person behind her put a hand on the back of the chair. Zhu Qingluo looked up at Jiang Yun with a confused look. “Is there something else?”
Jiang Yun looked at her for a moment and chuckled softly. “Goodbye.”
“…Goodbye.”
As the car in front of the building turned around and drove away, the sounds from outside gradually grew louder. Zhu Qingluo looked away and wheeled herself forward. Wu followed her, unable to resist a few sneaky glances. Zhu Qingluo noticed. “Do you want to laugh?” she asked.
“No…” Wu was a little flustered and quickly said, “I’m just a little surprised that Miss Jiang has such a gentle side.”
Gentle. Zhu Qingluo was taken aback. In her eyes, Jiang Yun hadn’t changed at all. But even her own assistant didn’t seem to fully understand her.
“You misunderstood me. I didn’t mean to make fun of you.” Wu was telling the truth. After all these years with Jiang Yun, she had seen many different sides of her. Her boss was different with Zhu Qingluo; she almost listened to her every word. Moreover, her boss’s mood had never been this stable. Even the employees around her had noticed and were privately amazed. It seemed that having a family could truly change a person. To prove her point, Wu’s voice was filled with unconcealed happiness. “Just last week, Miss Jiang gave me a promotion and a raise.”
Zhu Qingluo nodded and sincerely thanked her. “I’ve been gone for a while. Thank you for all your hard work.” Wu was a capable person. After a while, she would be able to return to Jiang Yun’s company and plan her work again. So, Wu was very enthusiastic about coming to the studio this time.
After hearing this, Zhu Qingluo thought to herself. Jiang Yun was very skilled at managing people. She knew how to give small favors to get people to serve her willingly. Later, Zhu Qingluo returned to her studio and checked the newly purchased equipment. Everything was in good working order. The employees had also settled in and didn’t seem surprised when they saw the new contract. Zhu Qingluo’s job was easier now because they had been trained and knew the production process, so things would proceed in an orderly fashion. Finally, she looked towards the door and suddenly asked, “Has anyone come to see me these past two days?”
Wu thought for a moment. “I don’t think so.” Zhu Qingluo seemed to be lost in thought and didn’t ask any more questions.
While packing Zhu Qingluo’s things, Wu unexpectedly saw the business card in her documents. She looked up and saw that Zhu Qingluo’s expression hadn’t changed. Wu looked down again, speaking her mind. “Director Xie works at Tianming Group. Perhaps she has some work to discuss with you.” Based on Xie Ke’s relationship with Jiang Yun, she would normally take care of Zhu Qingluo in a work-related capacity. However, Wu’s intuition told her that things wouldn’t be that “smooth.”
“What do you think about this?” Zhu Qingluo asked.
Wu was a little flustered but answered smoothly, “This is an auction hosted by Tianming. The pieces you submitted for the competition will also be on display. And the chairman of the Dong Group will be there. I heard he really admires your work and will be participating in the bidding.”
“The Dong Group?”
“Yes, my information is correct.”
Upon hearing this, Zhu Qingluo was silent for a while. What a coincidence. If she wasn’t mistaken, the Dong Group was the rival of Jiang Yun’s. The rival and Jiang Yun were competitors in the industry and had been at odds for years. With him and Xie Ke both showing up at the auction, the scene would be very “lively.” If she also got involved… just thinking about it gave Zhu Qingluo a headache.
Seeing her unenthusiastic attitude, Wu calmed down and asked in a low voice, “How should I handle this business card?”
Zhu Qingluo took it from her hand, wheeled herself to her desk, and pulled out a bottom drawer with various items in it. She glanced at the card and put it inside. Zhu Qingluo had already thought about it. Even if she didn’t go, she couldn’t stop Jiang Yun. When the time came, Jiang Yun would have a more important reason than her to attend the auction, and everything would be turned upside down. It was best for her not to get involved to avoid getting burned. Therefore, Zhu Qingluo stopped thinking about it and focused on her work.
When she had a free moment, she remembered the phone call from yesterday. Because she had hung up so quickly, there were still some questions she hadn’t gotten to ask. She opened her group messages and saw a message from Zhu Jianghai:
Meet after work today. 5 PM, at the cafe outside the building.
At 5 PM, the cafe had few customers and a quiet atmosphere. Zhu Qingluo saw a middle-aged man dressed to the nines sitting by the window. Zhu Jianghai was squinting, holding his phone in his left hand for a moment and then moving it to his right. “Tsk, the signal is terrible,” he muttered. Then he saw someone approaching. He straightened his expression and instinctively adjusted his tie.
“You’re here.”
“Mmm,” Zhu Qingluo replied flatly. Zhu Jianghai felt a little uncomfortable. He was facing a family member, yet her attitude was so distant and cold. Before she got there, Zhu Jianghai had walked over and pulled out a chair. Zhu Qingluo noted his action, her hand on her wheelchair’s armrest paused for a moment, and then she nonchalantly sat down across from the table.
