After a Disabled Alpha Marked a Yandere Female Lead - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The moonlight was pale and the world was silent.
The clock pendulum in the study ticked, and in the shadow of the desk, the wheelchair’s edge reflected the metallic sheen of platinum as it passed.
Zhu Qingluo pressed on the armrest and stopped in front of the desk.
In reality, her range of movement in the Jiang family’s home was limited. The butler didn’t allow her to enter certain areas, including the study.
But she was still a little curious. The study had more comprehensive information that could help her understand this world to the fullest extent.
Zhu Qingluo picked up a book in front of her. It was about Pheromone Maintenance and Therapy.
She flipped through it and found that with the ABO Equal Rights Act being enacted for ten years, a new type of rehabilitation industry had emerged.
She specifically looked for information about the Pilocarpine potion. The potion was a byproduct of this industry, and its description was detailed. However, the side effects were only briefly mentioned at the very bottom of the page:
Besides eroding the patient’s physical functions, there will be a slight effect on the next marking.
Zhu Qingluo’s gaze paused. The description didn’t specify what the effect was.
She had taken the potion, though only a small amount, and couldn’t be sure if it was still lingering in her body. The residual substance was diluted by her pheromones, but sometimes, when night fell, she would feel a sharp pain in her chest.
So, part of the reason she was here now was that she couldn’t sleep.
Zhu Qingluo’s thoughts returned to the present. She confirmed the potion she took was fine and closed the book.
On the table next to her were some unknown sample bottles containing blue and green liquids.
Because they were filled with a strong, unique Omega scent, she couldn’t get close to them.
Zhu Qingluo pondered for a moment, realizing these were drugs used to treat damaged scent glands.
However, she knew Jiang Yun wouldn’t succeed right now and would still need to passively accept marking.
In the later stages of the plot, Jiang Yun would heal her glands, but it wouldn’t be a good thing for her. This would attract more Alphas and lead to one of the darkest moments in her life.
Zhu Qingluo didn’t think too much about it. Jiang Yun’s future was none of her business. By then, she would have already been “offline.”
She casually looked at some documents to pass the time until she started to feel drowsy.
The bright moon hung low outside the window, and a gentle breeze brushed her cheek.
The moment she looked up, her vision widened, and she saw the outline of the safe not far away.
Her gaze lingered for a few seconds. The password she “saw” today flashed in her mind.
It just so happened that Jiang Yun wasn’t home tonight, so this great opportunity had suddenly fallen into her lap.
Zhu Qingluo put down the documents and slowly approached, her expression thoughtful.
If she could open the safe, get the valuable information, she could help the Zhu family solve their current urgent problem.
But could something so good really be true?
She still wanted to stay in the Jiang family and wouldn’t dare take such a risk.
Just then, a faint rustling sound came from a shelf in the bookshelf opposite her. A pink flower in a porcelain vase suddenly withered in the wind.
A single petal twirled in the air and landed on her knee.
Zhu Qingluo couldn’t help but frown, feeling a strange sensation.
As if sensing something, she glanced at her left and saw a strange object behind the vase—it seemed to be some kind of miniature technological device.
This is…
The next moment, she heard footsteps outside the door.
Whoosh—
When Zhu Qingluo looked, a black shadow flashed past.
She was certain it wasn’t Jiang Yun or anyone else from the house. The doubt that had just arisen in her mind was replaced by a different, strange feeling.
An absurd thought even popped into her head: Was the Jiang family being robbed?
Zhu Qingluo didn’t check the vase. She changed her mind and left the study. It was quiet outside.
The building had a circular structure, and the corridors were deep and complex. The light from the ceiling could only illuminate the center, and the “thief” could be hiding in any corner.
The noise just now hadn’t alerted the butler.
Zhu Qingluo had a feeling the person wasn’t far away, but her room was on the floor above, and the elevator was at the end of the corridor.
From her peripheral vision, the black shadow hid inside a door.
The air suddenly solidified. A tense atmosphere flowed in the shadows, like a standoff.
Zhu Qingluo stopped her wheelchair, her breathing momentarily still.
She thought for a moment and prepared to press the alarm on the wall.
Just then, she heard footsteps coming from the staircase.
In the darkness, the sound of high heels on the wooden floor was rhythmic, dull, and heavy. It was the only clear sound in the air.
At this moment, Zhu Qingluo inexplicably felt a sense of relief.
“What are you doing here?”
A faint cold light fell on the woman. Her face looked different from usual, captivating and a little hazy and unpredictable.
Because she had just returned from outside, she still carried a hint of cold air.
Zhu Qingluo was a little surprised, not expecting Jiang Yun to return so soon. Her room wasn’t on this floor, so she couldn’t use the bathroom as an excuse.
Jiang Yun’s gaze was sharp.
“I heard a strange sound and thought someone else had come to the Jiang family,” Zhu Qingluo said, avoiding the real issue.
Hearing this, Jiang Yun’s pretty brows furrowed slightly.
“Someone else?”
Seeing her feigning ignorance, Zhu Qingluo’s expression became serious.
“Yes,” she nodded.
“The Jiang family’s security system is incredibly sophisticated. If anyone breaks in, it will trigger a level-one alarm.”
Jiang Yun implied that no one else had been there tonight besides her.
Hearing this, Zhu Qingluo fell into thought.
Jiang Yun’s attitude was unquestionable as she stared at her, her gaze sweeping from top to bottom.
Zhu Qingluo’s expression didn’t waver. A stubbornness was hinted at.
Also, she wasn’t carrying anything, her hair was a little messy, and one side of her collar was sticking up. It really looked like she had just come out of her room.
A hint of a dark glimmer passed through Jiang Yun’s eyes. She was a little surprised. She nonchalantly put one hand behind her back, her fair fingers rubbing together.
“Not leaving?” she said in a low voice.
“…”
When the woman passed by her, she carried a wisp of a cool breeze.
Zhu Qingluo thought to herself, since the other person had said that, if she insisted on staying, it would be questioning the Jiang family’s security system.
She took one last look at the door and then slowly followed. The other person didn’t slow down, and with each long stride, she created a significant distance between them.
She felt that Jiang Yun was a little strange. For example, why did she suddenly come home…
“Do you know about the pheromone therapy industry?” Jiang Yun asked casually.
Zhu Qingluo’s heart tightened. She pretended to be confused.
“What’s that?”
“I forgot, you’re a little out of touch with society now.”
Jiang Yun glanced at her legs, her tone pausing slightly.
She began to talk about what she had gone out to do tonight, which was related to the industry’s technological research. Zhu Qingluo only half-understood some of the technical terms.
Although she didn’t know why Jiang Yun had brought this up, she stuck to the principle of “the more you say, the more you risk.” She only agreed on the surface.
“There are some relevant books in the study that might be helpful to you. Do you want to learn more about them?” Jiang Yun suddenly said.
“No… yes.”
Zhu Qingluo was about to say “no” but quickly changed her mind.
But the other person looked a little confused.
Zhu Qingluo found that the person beside her had stopped, so she also stopped her wheelchair.
She heard footsteps behind her and saw Jiang Yun walking towards her. A shadow fell over her, and a faint scent lingered at her nose. Zhu Qingluo didn’t move her gaze, meeting her eyes for a few seconds as she thought about how to respond.
Then, the other person leaned forward, and her cool fingertips lifted her chin.
“No? Or… have you already seen them?”
The woman’s smile was the same as usual, but in the dim light, her eyes were bright and filled with a chilling aura.
Zhu Qingluo’s neck stiffened slightly. In a moment of desperation, she blurted out, “There’s something I haven’t told you.”
Jiang Yun’s eyes flickered, and she gestured for her to continue.
“Ms. Jiang, I… accidentally overheard your phone call today…”
She had laid all her cards on the table.
Jiang Yun’s smile didn’t change, and her tone was unreadable. “You’ve been in the Jiang family for so long. Have you ever thought about going home one day?”
“No.”
Zhu Qingluo answered this question without hesitation.
Jiang Yun’s phoenix eyes narrowed slightly, growing more curious.
She had seen it clearly on the security footage. When Zhu Qingluo entered the study earlier, she could have easily stolen the confidential documents, but she changed her mind at the last minute.
The people she had stationed for this purpose weren’t even needed.
Or was she not satisfied with this and had other plans?
“Why?” she asked, feigning indifference.
Zhu Qingluo’s heart was complicated. Her tone was subtle, with a hint of sorrow.
“The Zhu family was my original home, but they only cared about their younger daughter and didn’t care about me at all. Since I… they have done their duty to the best of their ability.”
She sighed lightly and suddenly emphasized, “I am a person of the Jiang family now. Even if I die, I’ll be a ghost of the Jiang family.”
“…”
These words sounded like a cliché vow, but they were still effective.
A hint of pleasure passed through Jiang Yun’s eyes as she examined her closely.
Zhu Qingluo spoke with some nervousness, but there was no deceit in her words.
The silence lasted for a while.
Zhu Qingluo couldn’t help but curl her fingertips, gripping the armrest. Another second, and she wouldn’t be able to keep up the act.
Then, she felt Jiang Yun let go of her hand. The light in front of her returned, and the oppressive feeling that had surrounded her suddenly dissipated.
The other person turned and walked into the study, leaving her with one last sentence:
“Come in.”
Zhu Qingluo looked at the room and followed her in without hesitation.
She sensed a subtle change in the atmosphere. Some unspoken substance was spreading, hiding a real danger.
This was the second time she had been here in a short period.
She saw Jiang Yun leaning against the desk. She picked up the nearest book and, when she opened it, her eyes froze.
She pinched a flower petal from between the pages and examined it for a moment under the cold light of the chandelier.
It was intact, and its color was still vibrant.
“How did something else get in here?”
Meeting Jiang Yun’s gaze, Zhu Qingluo coughed lightly, pretending that nothing had happened.
Jiang Yun didn’t press her further.
Her fingertips toyed with the flower petal. After a while, she said unhurriedly, “Since you already know, if you feel conflicted, I can make an exception for you.”
Zhu Qingluo thought she had misheard. Jiang Yun’s attitude was too friendly.
“To cancel the partnership with Xuan Xia?” she asked cautiously.
Jiang Yun nodded slightly.
“How can you do that?”
Zhu Qingluo’s tone was confused, with a hint of indignation.
“Ms. Jiang, please do your job well and don’t be influenced by irrelevant people.”
The Zhu family is also irrelevant, she thought.
Jiang Yun was silent for a while and then suddenly laughed. She asked, “What do you think we should do with that money?”
Zhu Qingluo’s eyes lit up. She had finally heard the words she was waiting for.
Her expression was serious as she looked at the other person and answered simply, “Give it to me.”
