After a Disabled Alpha Marked a Yandere Female Lead - Chapter 57
Chapter 57: A Looming Downfall
This life continued, and everyone in the Jiang household was aware of the unspoken tension. Zhu Qingluo kept up with her daily rehabilitation. She noticed she no longer saw the housekeeper around the house; she was always in the study, managing financial ledgers. She sensed that Jiang Yun had instructed her to be tight-lipped, but Zhu Qingluo didn’t let on that she’d noticed. She would simply turn and walk away.
She went to her room, closed the door, and went to her desk. She took out several bank cards from a drawer—her assets accumulated during her time in the Jiang family. After a moment of thought, she took a small notebook from her pocket and found the number for a law firm. She asked the lawyer about the conditions and steps for transferring assets. The lawyer was silent for a few seconds, then asked her to repeat the request. From the outside, the Jiang family still looked prosperous, so Zhu Qingluo’s request was perplexing. It took about twenty minutes for her to complete the necessary paperwork. She put the cards back in the drawer and closed it slowly.
Zhu Qingluo sighed in relief and looked out the window. The sky had grown dark, and heavy clouds hung low. The moonlight was faint, casting a lonely shadow of her on the floor.
Three days later, at night, a silver Maybach was parked outside the Jiang residence, hidden in the shadows. A moment later, the car door opened. Jiang Yun got out and walked toward the villa. She suddenly stopped and glanced to the side. In the empty woods, she could just make out a person’s silhouette. They seemed to be standing there for an eternity. The person raised their hand to adjust their baseball cap, as if worried about being exposed, then quickly ducked behind a large tree. Jiang Yun calmly looked away, her phoenix eyes narrowed. She continued walking, acting as if she hadn’t seen the person. Assistant Wu wanted to look back but held herself back under Jiang Yun’s subtle instruction.
They entered the villa. Assistant Wu instinctively walked quietly, mindful of Jiang Yun’s previous instruction that Zhu Qingluo was resting and not to be disturbed. She saw the door to Zhu Qingluo’s room was slightly ajar, so she assumed she was inside. She quickly followed Jiang Yun to the study.
“What did the other side say?” Jiang Yun asked, spreading a newspaper on her desk. The newspaper’s headlines hinted at the Dong Corporation’s expansion into pheromone therapy. Jiang Yun’s gaze lingered on a set of data.
“Director Jiang, the Dong Corporation has shown no reaction to our accusations of their system intrusion. We are at a disadvantage and are still under investigation,” Assistant Wu reported, her tone serious and cautious.
“Did Cai Feng go there?”
“Yes, as you instructed. But the Dong Corporation… they turned on him and blamed him for everything.” Cai Feng was a former employee of the Jiang Corporation. Dong Aoyu had promised him a position at the Dong Corporation in exchange for betraying Jiang Yun. Cai Feng had confessed everything, even in front of Dong Aoyu, but Dong Aoyu denied everything. When Cai Feng returned with Assistant Wu, he wept and begged for forgiveness.
Assistant Wu sighed, frustrated. Cai Feng’s betrayal was a minor issue compared to the company’s current crisis. If they couldn’t handle the manipulated data and falsified ledgers, the Jiang Corporation was finished. Assistant Wu was anxious, but she didn’t dare show it to her boss.
Jiang Yun tapped the desk with her finger. If anyone understood Dong Aoyu, it was Jiang Yun. She knew her rival was arrogant and a risk-taker who would bet on a one percent chance of success. This was exactly what was happening now.
“Director Jiang, this is an urgent matter. Perhaps the investigation can wait? We can resume it later,” Assistant Wu suggested.
Jiang Yun’s eyebrows were furrowed. She looked angry and frustrated. “Director Jiang,” Assistant Wu said hesitantly. “There’s one more thing… I don’t know if I should say it.”
Jiang Yun gave her a look, signaling her to continue. Assistant Wu felt a chill. She stepped forward and presented Jiang Yun with a document. She then stepped back, anticipating a furious outburst.
Jiang Yun looked at the document. Her temple throbbed, and a cruel glint flashed in her eyes. “Ha. Dong Aoyu plays a good hand. He wants to gang up with others to take me down.” The document was a corporate acquisition offer. Several companies, under Dong Aoyu’s instruction, had presented her with a takeover contract. This was a clear act of provocation.
Jiang Yun clenched the document and tore it to pieces. Then, to Assistant Wu’s surprise, she tossed it into the trash can. Jiang Yun brushed her clothes as if shaking off dust. “Go back and wait for my instructions tomorrow,” she said.
Assistant Wu hesitated but decided not to argue. She bowed and left.
…
A Cold, Chilling Calm
A while later, Jiang Yun walked out of the study. The house was silent. She felt a sense of agitation and began to wander. She hadn’t seen Zhu Qingluo since she came home. Her feet carried her to the door of Zhu Qingluo’s bedroom. She raised her hand to knock, but then she stopped. She looked at her watch. Zhu Qingluo was probably asleep. Jiang Yun stood there for a moment, then lowered her hand and walked in the opposite direction.
The temperature had dropped. The cold air blew on her face, but it did nothing to cool the fire in her heart. As she left the bedroom door behind her, the flame burned even brighter.
The silver Maybach pulled out of the garage and drove down the tree-lined road, leaving the villa behind.
About half an hour later, the car entered a facility. Jiang Yun went to a clinic on the top floor. Professor Shen had just come out of her lab. She was taking off her gloves and looked at Jiang Yun. “You should have called. I could have met you at a restaurant.”
“It’s the same here,” Jiang Yun replied.
Professor Shen saw her exhaustion. “What happened?” she asked. Jiang Yun only came to her late at night like this when she had a difficult problem. Professor Shen had heard the rumors. The fact that Jiang Yun wasn’t staying home meant she was under immense pressure.
“I know you’re distressed,” Professor Shen said. “Don’t worry. You can relax. Everything will be alright.”
The familiar environment seemed to calm Jiang Yun. “Professor,” she said, “I’ve been thinking about a question.”
“What is it?”
“The Dong Corporation is so arrogant now. They might expose their weakness. What do you think the outcome will be?”
Professor Shen’s expression became unnatural. She quickly regained her composure and said with a warm smile, “Let’s not talk about such things here.”
Jiang Yun frowned. The air was silent for a while. “Relax, relax,” Professor Shen said, spinning a coin between her fingers. The glint of the silver coin caught Jiang Yun’s attention. She knew this was her therapy session. With Professor Shen’s guidance and hypnosis, she could always release her stress and find peace.
The room was filled with the scent of sandalwood. Jiang Yun’s eyes were half-closed, her gaze fixed on the coin. The stark white light of the clinic made her expression look cruel and cold. A million thoughts raced through her mind. “What are you thinking?” Professor Shen asked, bringing the coin closer. “Whatever you’re thinking, just destroy it, get revenge, and rebuild… don’t hesitate. Follow your heart.”
Professor Shen’s voice grew stronger. Jiang Yun showed no reaction. Professor Shen flipped the coin to its other side. Her gentle facade fell away, and her eyes filled with a fanatical look, as if she was admiring a perfect work of art.
“Jiang Yun, are you ready?” she asked, her voice calm and chilling.
Jiang Yun’s eyes were empty of light. She gave a slight nod. Professor Shen’s lips curved into a strange, unsettling smile.
