- Chapter 10 - "Sister, Did I Force You?"
Although there were many examination items, it didn’t take too much time because of Jian Mo.
Since it was a premarital checkup, they also had to routinely test their compatibility.
Before the examination, Ye Wenjin felt somewhat uneasy. However, when the results came out, she was shocked.
Because her compatibility with Jian Mo was as high as 99.9%, almost infinitely close to 100%.
Such a high compatibility rate was practically unprecedented.
Over a hundred years had passed since the emergence of secondary genders in humans, and society had now reached a relatively stable stage. Yet, from then until now, such an extraordinarily high compatibility rate had never been detected before.
Generally speaking, as long as the compatibility between an Alpha and Omega reached 60%, it was considered acceptable—enough to last a lifetime without major issues.
A compatibility rate above 80% could be called a match made in heaven, as it also reflected the degree of mutual attraction between the two parties.
Of course, compatibility wasn’t the only standard—there were cases where couples with very low compatibility still lived happily together.
However, such an astonishingly high compatibility rate didn’t just surprise Ye Wenjin; even the doctor conducting the test and the people around them were utterly shocked when they found out.
With compatibility this high, calling them a match made in heaven wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
But Ye Wenjin’s first reaction wasn’t joy—instead, she was dazed, only snapping back to reality after Jian Mo called her name several times.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head. “N-no, it’s nothing.”
Her evasive gaze clearly suggested otherwise. Jian Mo silently pondered, but before she could probe further, Ye Wenjin—who had just claimed she was fine—couldn’t hold back anymore.
She turned to look at Jian Mo, hesitating before cautiously asking, “Sister… back then, did I… force you?”
Ye Wenjin knew very well that high compatibility meant that as an Omega, Jian Mo would have been unable to resist entering heat upon smelling her pheromones.
Not to mention, at that time, she had just undergone secondary differentiation, was drugged, and wasn’t in her right mind—her actions couldn’t have been gentle.
So…
Was it possible that what happened wasn’t a one-night stand, but rather her forcing the other party?
The moment this thought crossed her mind, Ye Wenjin felt uneasy. If she didn’t clarify this, it would continue weighing on her, so she finally asked.
Jian Mo’s star-like eyes flickered slightly, and a faint smile slowly bloomed on her lips. “So you think you forced me?”
Ye Wenjin froze—not because of the question, but because of Jian Mo’s smile.
Without exaggeration, Jian Mo was the most beautiful person she had ever seen, and her unique aura amplified that beauty. Even without expression, she was stunning.
But now, when she saw that smile, for a fleeting moment, Ye Wenjin thought she saw countless plum blossoms blooming behind her.
Enthralling.
She hadn’t spent much time with Jian Mo and had hardly ever seen her smile. Yet now, she was smiling—albeit faintly.
But to Ye Wenjin, the impact was overwhelming.
She nearly didn’t react in time, staring blankly for a long while before finally snapping back to reality when she noticed Jian Mo’s gaze gradually turning puzzled.
“Sister, I’m sorry.”
Ye Wenjin lowered her head in shame.
Jian Mo chuckled softly. “Sorry for what, exactly?”
Ye Wenjin looked up with a start, seemingly caught off guard by the question, but quickly composed herself and murmured, “A bit of… both, I guess.”
Jian Mo slowly arched an eyebrow, her expression impossibly gentle. “Xiao Jin, no one can force me into anything, so don’t overthink it.”
Ye Wenjin’s mind instantly turned hazy—partly because of the way Jian Mo addressed her, and partly because of her words.
It was unmistakable. Jian Mo was telling her that agreeing to marry her was entirely voluntary.
Even if she didn’t know the reason.
But Ye Wenjin still felt as if an enormous stroke of luck had fallen from the sky, dazing her so much that her thoughts slowed.
It took her a long moment to snap out of it, and she smiled sheepishly.
She thought Jian Mo’s personality was just too good—so good that it made her easy to take advantage of. Meanwhile, her own motives for proposing were far from pure, laced with ulterior intentions. Guilt took root in her heart like stubborn weeds.
“I understand,” she said obediently, then couldn’t help adding sincerely, “Sister, you’re really too kind.”
Jian Mo’s expression remained gentle. “Let’s go. Where are you headed? I’ll take you there.”
Ye Wenjin immediately fell into step beside her. “Xinglin Grand Theater. Actually, I’m going to watch a performance—seeing it up close helps me learn a lot.”
Jian Mo nodded. “What time does it end?”
Without much thought, Ye Wenjin replied, “Around six in the evening, probably.”
“Mm. I’ll pick you up then.”
“Mm… Huh? Pick me up?”
Ye Wenjin halted in surprise.
Jian Mo turned to look at her. “Yes, to take you back to get your household register. Unless you don’t need it?”
Ye Wenjin’s eyes brightened slightly. “I do.”
“Then let’s go.”
With that, Ye Wenjin happily followed along.
By the time they reached the theater, time had grown tight, but they managed to arrive just before two.
Afraid of being late, Ye Wenjin barely spared a thought for anything else, hastily bidding Jian Mo farewell before rushing inside.
The auditorium was already packed when she entered, the sea of faces making it impossible to spot Rong Yunshu at a glance.
Luckily, her phone buzzed just then. After checking the message, she finally located Rong Yunshu.
Settling into her seat, Ye Wenjin finally exhaled in relief.
Rong Yunshu watched her sit down, lips pressed together before asking, “Wenjin, did you take leave this morning? I messaged you, but you didn’t reply.”
Ye Wenjin froze, quickly scrolling through their chat history before spotting the missed message. She gave Rong Yunshu an apologetic look and whispered, “Sorry, Yunshu. I was in a hurry this morning and didn’t notice.”
Rong Yunshu smiled gently. “It’s fine. Did you take leave to go out? Were you feeling unwell?”
Unaware of the probing undertone, Ye Wenjin answered, “Yeah, I went for a check-up. The registrar said I needed to get tested first and bring the results before completing the formalities.”
Though she omitted part of the truth, she had gone for a medical exam.
Just… not only that one.
Ye Wenjin instinctively kept quiet about the marriage check-up—not because she didn’t consider Rong Yunshu a friend, but because she didn’t quite know how to bring it up. It felt awkward to mention, so she decided to hold off for now.
Rong Yunshu had been studying Ye Wenjin’s expression all along and naturally noticed the shift in her demeanor.
Her fingers tightened unconsciously, though she paid it no mind. Just as she lowered her gaze, about to speak, someone’s voice suddenly cut in.
“Move, I need to get through.”
The arrogant expression and malicious tone made it clear who had arrived without even looking up.
Ye Wenjin didn’t want any trouble, so she silently withdrew her leg to let the person pass.
However, Rong Yunshu wasn’t about to indulge the intruder. She stopped Ye Wenjin’s movement and looked up at the newcomer with a mocking smile.
Just when she was in a bad mood, this person had to walk right into it.
“Well, if it isn’t our ‘High-and-Mighty Sister’? What brings your esteemed self to class today?”
Right off the bat, it was classic sarcasm.
Hearing this nickname, Ye Wenjin almost laughed but knew doing so would escalate things, so she held it in.
While she managed to restrain herself, the other party had no such intentions and immediately raised her voice.
“Rong Yunshu! I wasn’t talking to you! Why are you butting in?”
Rong Yunshu leaned back in her seat, stretching her legs to block the aisle completely.
“What’s the matter, High-and-Mighty Sister? Since when you control who gets to speak?”
Provoked by Rong Yunshu’s attitude, the girl shouted her name even louder, drawing the attention of several onlookers.
“As expected of High-and-Mighty Sister, always so eager to be the center of attention.”
The girl grew even angrier. “Rong Yunshu, watch your mouth! I have a name—stop calling me that!”
Rong Yunshu smirked. “I’ll call you whatever I want.”
Their argument attracted more people, and when the teacher arrived after getting word, she immediately felt a headache coming on.
“What’s all this commotion? The event is about to start—this is no time for nonsense!”
Rong Yunshu shrugged innocently. “Wasn’t me, Teacher. She started it. You know I don’t like causing trouble.”
“Rong Yunshu! You—”
The teacher cut in wearily. “Enough, Yi Huan. Mind the occasion.”
Yi Huan wanted to argue further, but under the teacher’s warning glare, she could only turn away resentfully and find another seat.
The dispute ended, but Ye Wenjin, who had stayed quiet the whole time, couldn’t shake the feeling of an intense gaze burning into her back, as if trying to bore a hole through her.
She sighed inwardly, helpless.
Truthfully, she had no idea why Yi Huan seemed to hold such a grudge against her. The girl had always treated her poorly, as if she’d stolen something from her. But no matter how much she thought about it, she couldn’t figure out the reason.
Their competitive dynamic in class—though mostly one-sided on Yi Huan’s part—only deepened the rift between them, to the point where reconciliation seemed impossible.
“Don’t mind her. If she bothers you again, come to me.”
Ye Wenjin smiled. “It’s fine, don’t worry.”
Rong Yunshu clicked her tongue in frustration. “You’re too soft. Next time she picks a fight, snap back, got it?”
Ye Wenjin nodded helplessly. “Got it. The show’s about to start—let’s keep it down.”
Rong Yunshu agreed and quieted down, but not before shooting Yi Huan a warning glance.
Yi Huan fumed but finally averted her gaze.
At last, Ye Wenjin felt some peace.
As the performance neared its end, Ye Wenjin received a message from Jian Mo, her eyes curving slightly in a smile.
“Wenjin, what should we eat later?” Rong Yunshu whispered.
Ye Wenjin blinked, then replied apologetically, “Yunshu, you go ahead first. I need to head home for a bit.”
Rong Yunshu looked puzzled but nodded.
After the show, the two of them left the theater together, and Ye Wenjin immediately spotted Jian Mo’s car.
“I’ll be going then, Yunshu. You should head back soon.”
Rong Yunshu nodded but didn’t leave, instead watching as Ye Wenjin hurried toward a car.
The door slowly opened, revealing a glimpse of someone sitting inside.
It was a strikingly beautiful woman with an aloof, elegant demeanor.
Her gaze swept over calmly before softening abruptly the moment it landed on Ye Wenjin.
Rong Yunshu’s heart clenched.
Who was that?
