- Chapter 16 - "I No Longer Have Any Relationship with the Indian Family."
Dazed, Ye Wenjin returned to her dorm, and only then did she realize that what happened yesterday felt like a dream.
Moreover, her luggage was indeed left at her sister’s place.
Ye Wenjin froze for a moment before sinking into deep thought, still unable to figure out how things had escalated to this point.
Originally, she had planned to keep her belongings in the dorm. Staying during holidays was no issue, and she could even apply to remain during winter and summer breaks.
She had it all figured out.
The only slight complication would be tuition and living expenses, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Ye Wenjin had long prepared herself to leave home. This time, she had taken everything with her—including her previously confiscated phone and bank cards.
The card held her savings, which she absolutely had to take. Though not a fortune, it was enough to cover tuition and living expenses for the remaining two years. Most of that money came from tutoring fees she earned by helping others with their studies.
Though she was an art student, her academic performance wasn’t lacking. With more freedom in university, she had managed to save quite a bit.
When she moved everything out, Ye Wenjin had already decided—she would stay in the dorm until graduation, then rent a place when the time came.
But she never expected her sister to offer to keep her things at her place. Ye Wenjin didn’t want to refuse Jian Mo, thinking it would be fine to leave them there temporarily before heading back.
And then, somehow, she ended up spending the night at Jian Mo’s.
The thought of living together resurfaced in her mind. Ye Wenjin abruptly closed her eyes, waiting until she had calmed down before continuing toward the dorm.
It was already past seven in the morning, and she had class. But when she opened the dorm door, she froze.
The dorm was eerily quiet. Ye Wenjin assumed everyone had already left for class, but when she looked up at the beds—
All three roommates were sound asleep, peaceful as if there were no classes today.
Realizing they were about to be late, Ye Wenjin snapped out of it and quickly woke them up. The moment they realized the time, panic ensued.
The scene instantly turned into complete chaos.
Ye Wenjin watched silently, somewhat amused.
Chu Yunsheng was one thing—she always woke up at the last minute and rushed to class. But Rong Yunshu and Zhou Wuhua doing the same was downright bizarre.
She remembered Rong Yunshu usually woke up early, and Zhou Wuhua—wasn’t she always in the classroom by this time?
As she watched the three of them scramble through their morning routines, Ye Wenjin fell into thought again.
Rushing against the clock, they finally made it to the classroom just in time.
Ye Wenjin couldn’t help but chuckle at Rong Yunshu, who was still trying to catch her breath, and asked curiously, “Yunshu, how come you didn’t wake up on time today? Did you stay up late?”
Rong Yunshu studied Ye Wenjin. She could tell—Ye Wenjin looked refreshed, clearly having slept well the night before.
A pang of bitterness rose in her chest.
Truthfully, she wanted to say that the reason she couldn’t sleep last night was because she couldn’t stop thinking about the woman she had seen that afternoon.
Rong Yunshu was deeply unsettled. Her gut told her that woman’s relationship with Ye Wenjin wasn’t simple. She desperately wanted to ask—who was she? Why did she come to pick Ye Wenjin up? What were they to each other?
But she didn’t dare.
Afraid of hearing the answer she least wanted, she had tossed and turned all night, which was why she couldn’t get up this morning.
She didn’t know why the other two had overslept, but if it weren’t for Ye Wenjin returning, all three of them in the dorm would have been late without exception.
Rong Yunshu hesitated for a moment before saying, “I was thinking about some things last night and lost track of time, so I slept a little late.”
Ye Wenjin nodded. “I see.”
Rong Yunshu looked at her and couldn’t help but open her mouth. “Wenjin, you…”
Just as Ye Wenjin turned to listen, her peripheral vision caught sight of the teacher approaching. She immediately forgot about listening and quickly warned Rong Yunshu, “Yunshu, the teacher’s here. We’ll talk after class.”
Unable to finish her sentence, Rong Yunshu felt a lump form in her throat.
When the class ended, Ye Wenjin remembered that Rong Yunshu had seemed to have something to say earlier, so she turned to ask, “By the way, what were you going to say just now?”
Rong Yunshu paused, then shook her head. “I forgot.”
Despite saying that, barely a second later, she couldn’t resist probing further. “Wenjin, last night when you didn’t come back, were you resting at home?”
This was actually quite strange because Ye Wenjin rarely went home to rest. Even during holidays, she seldom returned. Everyone knew her relationship with her family wasn’t good.
Frequent short trips home like this had never happened before.
Rong Yunshu felt that something must have happened, but when she had asked earlier, Ye Wenjin had insisted nothing was wrong.
Then, after seeing that woman yesterday, Rong Yunshu had a strong sense that things had veered off their original course.
So she couldn’t help but ask.
And the moment Ye Wenjin heard her question, memories of last night flooded her mind.
The mingling of pheromones with Jian Mo, the two of them sharing a room, the ambiguous temporary mark…
Each thought made her ears burn and her face grow warm the instant she recalled them.
But with Rong Yunshu present, she had to force herself not to dwell on it, nodding vaguely instead.
However, what she didn’t realize was that Rong Yunshu’s expression changed the moment she saw her reaction.
She was almost certain that Ye Wenjin hadn’t slept at home last night. But where, then?
The woman’s face immediately flashed through Rong Yunshu’s mind.
She clenched her fists, an inexplicable impulse rising in her chest, but she didn’t dare act on it.
Ye Wenjin didn’t notice her strange expression because her phone suddenly buzzed. Before checking the message, she never expected it to be from Yin Feifei.
So, when she saw the message, it felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her burning heart.
She glanced at it but didn’t reply or open it to read further. Calmly putting her phone away, she began preparing for the next class.
By the time Rong Yunshu had composed herself and looked at Ye Wenjin again, she immediately sensed something was off. But just as she was about to ask, the bell for the next class rang.
Rong Yunshu had no choice but to set it aside for now, planning to ask after class.
Yet even after class started, she could still hear the faint vibrations from Ye Wenjin’s phone. Worried, she glanced at her.
Ye Wenjin naturally noticed it too. To avoid disrupting the class, she simply turned off her phone, and the world fell silent again.
The morning classes ended quickly. Ye Wenjin hadn’t given Yin Feifei’s message a second thought, so when Rong Yunshu asked about it, she shook her head. “It’s from someone unimportant.”
So Rong Yunshu understood—it must be her family.
Yet Ye Wenjin hadn’t expected that Yin Feifei, having received no reply from her, would actually come to her school.
Back then, Ye Wenjin had wanted to attend university in another province but ultimately failed to leave. As for Yin Feifei, she had simply chosen to study in the city because Yin Yu said their company’s roots were here, and studying elsewhere would hinder networking opportunities.
The school Yin Feifei attended was right next to hers—a rather prestigious one—and she was even majoring in finance, a field directly aligned with their family’s business.
But in the past two years, Yin Feifei had never once set foot in Ye Wenjin’s university. So when she saw her appear, Ye Wenjin thought she was seeing things.
But she wasn’t. Because Yin Feifei was furious, her eyes practically burning with the desire to tear her apart.
Ye Wenjin remained silent, watching wordlessly as the other girl stormed toward her. However, before Yin Feifei could get close, Rong Yunshu blocked her path. Given the hostility, Rong Yunshu naturally couldn’t just let her approach.
Having her way obstructed, Yin Feifei was beyond irritated. “Who the hell are you? A good dog doesn’t block the road. I’m here for Ye Wenjin—what’s it to you?”
Rong Yunshu narrowed her eyes, as if about to say something, but before she could, Ye Wenjin pulled her behind her.
“What do you want?”
She asked calmly.
Yin Feifei crossed her arms, her gaze disdainful. “Come back with me.”
Ye Wenjin truly didn’t understand—where did she get the confidence to think she’d just obey?
“I have nothing to do with the Yin family anymore. From now on, I won’t be going back.”
Yin Feifei glared at her. “That’s not up to you.”
The moment she spoke, Ye Wenjin noticed several figures emerging behind her—clearly intending to take her back by force.
Rong Yunshu’s brows furrowed sharply. “Are you trying to kidnap someone on school grounds?”
Mindful of the surrounding witnesses, Yin Feifei naturally didn’t admit to kidnapping.
“I’m here to take Sister back. That’s none of your business.”
Rong Yunshu’s expression was icy. “Wenjin said she’s not going back. Can’t you understand human speech?”
Never having been repeatedly rebuked like this, Yin Feifei felt humiliated. Her pheromones surged toward Rong Yunshu in an instant. She had absolute confidence in her rank and could already imagine the pained expression on the other’s face.
But Rong Yunshu was no pushover either. Her jasmine-laced pheromones clashed violently with Yin Feifei’s, the two forces locked in an invisible battle.
Seeing the situation escalate, Ye Wenjin quickly urged Rong Yunshu to calm down. There were others around—if an Omega was nearby, things could get messy.
While Rong Yunshu might heed her advice, Yin Feifei wouldn’t. Instead, she drove even more pheromones forward, trying to overwhelm Rong Yunshu.
Alphas were inherently repelled by each other’s pheromones, and Ye Wenjin, caught between the two, was suffering as well.
Worse, having just undergone differentiation, her pheromones were still unstable. Provoked like this, they surged out uncontrollably.
The air was suddenly filled with the scent of rosemary, domineeringly driving back the two warring pheromones.
At first, Yin Feifei didn’t notice. It wasn’t until she felt an overwhelming sense of threat that she realized a third presence had joined.
But when she traced the source of the pheromones—only to find Ye Wenjin—Yin Feifei blurted out in disbelief, “Ye Wenjin?! You actually differentiated into an Alpha?!”
How is this possible? Ye Wenjin was clearly a Beta—how could she have differentiated into an Alpha? When did this happen? Why didn’t they know about it?
Moreover, her pheromones actually made her feel threatened, which indicated they were of no low level…
But she was just a mediocre good-for-nothing!
