- Chapter 18 - "I am Jian Mo, Ye Wenjin's... family member."
After sending the message, Ye Wenjin didn’t hold much hope that Jian Mo would actually come, since she seemed quite busy.
In her mind, the best-case scenario was that the other party would send someone else over after learning about the situation.
But Jian Mo… seemed intent on coming herself.
Ye Wenjin wanted to ask, but she hesitated, missing the best moment to inquire, and now she didn’t dare bring it up.
Her heartbeat quickened slightly as she stared at their chat interface on her phone, feeling somewhat uneasy.
After rereading the messages for who knows how many times, she finally turned off her screen and sat quietly in the administration office, waiting for Jian Mo to arrive.
Meanwhile, when Rong Yunshu heard that parents were being called in, she stiffened. She absolutely dreaded the idea—because if she did, her unscrupulous older sister would likely mock her for the rest of her life.
But the head teacher’s expression brooked no refusal, and he was still muttering under his breath, furious about their public display of pheromone confrontation.
Even though she and Ye Wenjin weren’t the main instigators, the fact that all three of them had resorted to pheromones made the incident serious enough that the head teacher refused to let it slide.
Of course, since the primary offender was from another school, most of his anger was currently directed at Yin Feifei.
Unable to contain his fury, the head teacher immediately made a call, sneering throughout the conversation, his words dripping with sarcasm aimed at the person on the other end.
It seemed he had already locked horns with the teacher from the neighboring school.
Watching this unfold, Rong Yunshu reluctantly decided to call her parents—though not because she feared being scolded alongside the others, but because she worried the head teacher might strain his voice from all the yelling, which wouldn’t be good for his health.
The unfortunate reality, however, was that the only family member available at the moment was her sister.
Upon receiving this devastating news, Rong Yunshu squeezed her eyes shut in despair.
Only after finishing her argument with her sister did she finally put down her phone, exhausted. When she turned back, she noticed Ye Wenjin fidgeting uneasily, looking troubled—even a little nervous upon closer inspection.
It suddenly occurred to Rong Yunshu that Ye Wenjin had a strained relationship with her family, so being forced to call a parent must be particularly difficult for her.
After a pause, Rong Yunshu leaned over and whispered, “What’s on your mind? Did you talk to your parents?”
What she really wanted to ask was whether Ye Wenjin’s parents would even come, but that seemed too blunt.
Ye Wenjin didn’t pick up on the implication, though, and merely sighed softly before nodding. “Yeah, I told them.”
Seeing her distracted demeanor, Rong Yunshu made an educated guess and quietly reassured her, “Don’t feel bad. This wasn’t our fault to begin with. That outsider will probably get disciplinary action.”
Ye Wenjin couldn’t care less about what punishment Yin Feifei might face. Even Rong Yunshu’s words sounded muffled, as if heard through a barrier—because she was still stuck on the fact that she had somehow ended up calling Jian Mo as her guardian.
It filled her with an inexplicable sense of embarrassment.
Misinterpreting her silence, Rong Yunshu assumed Ye Wenjin had failed to get a parent to come and was upset about it.
She was about to say, If your parents can’t make it, it’s fine—my sister can act as a guardian for both of us.
But just as the words reached her lips, the head teacher abruptly hung up the phone, looking refreshed and triumphant—clearly having won the verbal battle.
His combat skills were truly impressive. Rong Yunshu suddenly felt relieved she hadn’t spoken up.
The homeroom teacher looked at the two of them, giving them a once-over before her gaze settled on Ye Wenjin.
“Just differentiated?”
Ye Wenjin nodded nervously. “Yes, ma’am.”
The teacher stroked her chin. “Secondary differentiation, huh? That’s rare.”
Then she turned to Rong Yunshu, her tone shifting. “It’s one thing for her to be unfamiliar with her pheromones after a secondary differentiation, but you—an Alpha who’s been differentiated for so long—how could you also be so careless?”
“Luckily nothing serious happened. If it had, even if it wasn’t your fault, you wouldn’t have gotten off scot-free.”
Rong Yunshu, who had just been relieved she hadn’t been called out yet: “…”
So, she still couldn’t escape the scolding.
Sighing inwardly, Rong Yunshu admitted her mistake with utmost sincerity. “I’m sorry, ma’am. The situation was urgent—that student from another school was abusing her pheromones and even tried to attack us. I only fought back because I was afraid things would escalate.”
The teacher snorted. “If not for that, do you think a simple parent-teacher meeting would’ve been enough?”
Rong Yunshu: “…”
Fair enough.
Throughout the exchange, Ye Wenjin remained obediently quiet, listening to the homeroom teacher’s lecture. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Rong Yunshu’s expression gradually zoning out and couldn’t help but feel amused.
Fortunately, the lecture didn’t drag on too long, as the office door was suddenly knocked on. Ye Wenjin’s heart skipped a beat as she turned nervously toward the sound.
But the person at the door wasn’t Jian Mo—instead, it was a woman who looked… cool?
Her outfit was full of artistic flair, her hair meticulously braided into two plaits intertwined with silver threads, giving off a sweet yet edgy vibe.
Both the teacher and Ye Wenjin were taken aback by her appearance.
Then, the woman’s eyes lit up the moment she spotted Rong Yunshu. “Heh, Yunshu, Yunshu… So even you have a day where you get called in for a parent-teacher meeting, huh?”
Rong Yunshu averted her gaze, refusing to look at her.
The teacher looked puzzled. “And you are?”
The woman smiled brightly. “Hello, teacher! I’m Rong Yunshu’s sister, Rong Yunjuan.”
Rong Yunshu quickly added, “Everyone else in my family is away on business, so only my sister was available.”
The implication was clear—if there had been anyone else, she wouldn’t have called her sister.
Rong Yunjuan raised an eyebrow but didn’t elaborate.
Truthfully, their mothers found the situation a bit embarrassing and didn’t want to come, so they sent her instead.
But there was no need to tell Rong Yunshu that.
Poor Yunshu, completely at the mercy of their mothers’ teasing.
Rong Yunjuan’s gaze softened with pity—though she tried to hide it, Rong Yunshu noticed anyway. She had a gut feeling something was off, but no matter how she thought about it, nothing seemed amiss. Suspicious, she narrowed her eyes at her sister.
Rong Yunjuan simply smiled.
A sister still counted as a guardian, after all. So the teacher invited her into the office.
But before she could say anything else, the door was knocked on again, diverting everyone’s attention. The teacher paused mid-step and turned to open it.
As soon as the door swung open, Ye Wenjin locked eyes with Jian Mo, her heart pounding wildly.
Sister really came!
Then, overcome with guilt, she lowered her head.
Seeing how young the newcomer looked, the teacher was once again taken aback. “And you are?”
Jian Mo glanced at Ye Wenjin, who was hanging her head, before answering calmly, “Hello, I’m Jian Mo. Ye Wenjin’s… family.”
The teacher nodded in understanding. “Ah, I see. Another sister, right?”
Jian Mo smiled warmly at Ye Wenjin. “Mhm. Her sister.”
Her tone was lingering, especially those last two words. So much so that the moment Ye Wenjin heard them, the heat on her face suddenly surged, and she abruptly clenched her hands.
She couldn’t help but feel…
extremely embarrassed.
