- Chapter 31 - “Does It Hurt, Sis?”
In the tight, enclosed space, the mingling pheromones only grew thicker. In just a short while, both of them were completely covered in each other’s scent.
The surrounding environment kept Ye Wenjin on edge, and the strange, forbidden thrill of it all made her feel like she was doing something she shouldn’t. Every second felt torturously long.
So when the temporary mark was finally formed, Ye Wenjin’s tension eased. She slowly released her bite, only to look down at the slightly swollen gland with a pang of guilt in her eyes.
“Does it hurt, Sis?”
She asked softly.
Jian Mo’s voice was low and slightly hoarse. “It’s just a little pain. Don’t worry, Xiaojin. Help me put on the suppressant patch.”
Hearing that, Ye Wenjin quickly grabbed a patch and carefully applied it to Jian Mo’s neck.
The pheromones in the air were gradually fading. But to be safe, Ye Wenjin didn’t get out of the car right away. She waited a little longer, until most of the scent had dissipated, before finally stepping out.
As the car window lowered, Ye Wenjin waved. “Sis, I’m heading in now.”
Jian Mo nodded, a gentle smile on her face. “Go ahead.”
Ye Wenjin turned and walked toward the campus.
What she didn’t see was that the moment she turned away, Jian Mo’s smile slowly disappeared, and a glimmer of darkness passed through her eyes.
She reached up and touched the suppressant patch on her neck. After a moment of thought, she finally drove off.
Ye Wenjin didn’t return to the dorm. She had already agreed to meet Rong Yunshu at the dance studio, so she headed straight there.
By the time she arrived, Rong Yunshu was already inside setting up.
“Yunshu, you’re early,” she called as she stepped in.
But when there was no response, Ye Wenjin looked over in confusion—only to see that Rong Yunshu’s expression was a bit odd.
“Yunshu? What’s wrong?”
Rong Yunshu blinked, snapping out of it. Her gaze was complicated. After a short pause, she asked, “Wenjin… don’t you smell a foreign pheromone on yourself?”
Ye Wenjin blinked, her face instantly flushing red, her gaze flustered.
“I… Uh, I must’ve accidentally picked it up somewhere.”
She tried to explain, but even she knew how unconvincing it sounded.
Ye Wenjin was an open book. Her face couldn’t hide a thing, and her panic was plain to see.
In that moment, Rong Yunshu didn’t need to ask anything more—the truth was already clear.
She clenched her fists as her eyes swept over Ye Wenjin, now soaked in an unfamiliar Omega’s scent. A faint chill flickered in her gaze.
How could she not know what this meant? It was a blatant mark of territory.
Ye Wenjin was an Alpha. An Omega’s scent shouldn’t linger on her for long.
But when she walked in just now, that unfamiliar pheromone had completely clung to her—clearly fresh.
That woman must’ve come to campus too, and they must’ve gotten intimate before parting ways.
How very sweet.
Rong Yunshu lowered her gaze, hiding her emotions.
Ye Wenjin, still flustered, didn’t notice anything amiss. She was still caught up in the embarrassment of being exposed and dreaded further questions.
But Rong Yunshu didn’t ask anything more. She simply gave a soft “mm” before crouching down to adjust the speaker.
Relieved, Ye Wenjin quickly excused herself to change clothes and escaped to the dressing room.
Her heart was pounding like crazy. If this had gone on any longer, it might’ve leapt out of her chest. Thank goodness Rong Yunshu didn’t press the issue. But if it had been Chu Junsheng instead, she probably wouldn’t have gotten off so easy.
Taking a moment to collect herself, Ye Wenjin finally emerged in her dancewear.
While she was changing, Rong Yunshu had already composed herself—at least on the surface.
The two quickly got to work, taking turns performing their chosen routines and giving each other feedback.
It was only when Ye Wenjin danced that Rong Yunshu could watch her so openly, without fear of being caught.
She’d thought it before, but Ye Wenjin really was talented. Even with limited time, her choreography was impressive—hard to believe she’d done it all herself.
When they wrapped up, Rong Yunshu said with genuine admiration, “Wenjin, you’ve gotten even better.”
Ye Wenjin gave a shy smile. “I watched Ms. Mei’s performance yesterday and got inspired. I applied it to the choreography—looks like it worked?”
Rong Yunshu laughed. “It more than worked. Save some talent for the rest of us.”
Ye Wenjin giggled. “Come on, let me help you too.”
Rong Yunshu nodded and performed her routine as well.
The two stayed in the dance studio until nightfall, but their efforts paid off. They refined their routines, and their proficiency improved significantly.
Still, Ye Wenjin wanted to be extra prepared, so she planned to squeeze in a few more practice sessions before auditioning.
They only left once they were completely exhausted.
Just as they got downstairs, Ye Wenjin received a call from Jian Mo.
“Xiaojin, all done with practice?”
Ye Wenjin answered sweetly, “We just finished. What’s up, Sis?”
A soft chuckle came through the phone. “Aunt Wu dropped something off for you. It should be there by now—go pick it up, okay?”
Ye Wenjin was surprised and instinctively turned to head back.
Rong Yunshu grabbed her arm. “Wenjin? Where are you going this late?”
Ye Wenjin lowered her phone. “Aunt Wu dropped something off. I’ll go grab it. You go ahead.”
She turned to leave, but before she got far, footsteps followed her. Sure enough, Rong Yunshu had caught up.
“Yunshu? You’re coming too?”
Rong Yunshu smiled. “It’s late. I’ll go with you.”
Ye Wenjin thought for a moment, then accepted her kindness.
But just then, Jian Mo’s voice came through the phone again, and Ye Wenjin realized she hadn’t hung up.
“I’m heading to the gate now, Sis,” she said softly.
Jian Mo gave a quiet “mm” but didn’t hang up, so Ye Wenjin kept the phone to her ear as she walked.
“Go a little farther ahead.”
Ye Wenjin’s eyes lit up, and she quickened her pace.
Just as Jian Mo instructed, she soon spotted a car with its hazard lights on.
Through the window, she could faintly see a familiar silhouette in the backseat.
Eyes gleaming, Ye Wenjin turned to Rong Yunshu. “Wait for me here, I’ll be quick!”
She dashed to the car and opened the door—just as she suspected, Jian Mo was inside.
Eyes wide with surprise and joy, Ye Wenjin exclaimed, “Sis! You came too?”
Jian Mo smiled gently. “Is my visit an inconvenience?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head. “Of course not! I thought only Aunt Wu would be here. I’m happy you came, Sis.”
After a brief pause, she added shyly, “Actually, I’m really glad you’re here.”
Her honest, bashful words made Jian Mo’s smile deepen.
Aunt Wu, watching the two, stepped out of the car and approached Rong Yunshu.
“Thank you for looking after Miss Wenjin,” she said politely. “It’s late, and you still came with her—I hope it didn’t trouble you.”
Rong Yunshu forced a smile. “Not at all. But Wenjin should hurry—it’s almost curfew.”
Aunt Wu smiled graciously. “Thank you for the reminder. We won’t hold you up.”
She turned back to the car and brought out a food box.
In a gentle tone, she said, “Miss Wenjin, it’s late, so it’s best not to eat anything too heavy. These are light dishes—make sure to eat while they’re warm.”
“I will, Aunt Wu,” Ye Wenjin replied, taking the box obediently.
Then she turned to Jian Mo with a hint of reluctance. “Sis, I’ll head back now?”
Jian Mo nodded with a soft voice. “Mm, go ahead. Eat and sleep early. Goodnight, Xiaojin.”
“Goodnight, Sis. You too,” Ye Wenjin beamed.
With that, she headed back to the dorm with Rong Yunshu, humming with happiness.
She didn’t notice the dark look on Rong Yunshu’s face.
Aunt Wu’s words had made her feel like an outsider. It was true, but it still rubbed her the wrong way.
By the time they returned to the dorm, Rong Yunshu had composed herself.
Their other roommates weren’t surprised to see Ye Wenjin carrying food again.
Chu Junsheng peeked at the contents—clear, healthy dishes—and quickly lost interest, flopping back onto her bed.
Only Zhou Wuhua noticed the glint of emotion hidden in Rong Yunshu’s eyes. She knew Rong Yunshu was probably hurt again.
Even though they were in similar situations, Zhou Wuhua felt Rong Yunshu’s chances were slim. But she still refused to give up.
As for Zhou Wuhua herself…
She paused briefly, then returned to minding her own business.
