- Chapter 33 - The Informant
Even Ye Wenjin herself hadn’t noticed the faint trace of grievance in her voice when she spoke to Jian Mo.
But while she remained unaware, Jian Mo picked up on it immediately.
Especially knowing Ye Wenjin’s personality—someone who hated troubling others—yet she’d gone so far as to ask Aunt Wu to come to school. Something serious must have happened.
Jian Mo’s expression was unreadable, but her voice remained calm, laced with reassurance. “Xiao Jin, don’t panic. We’re on our way.”
Ye Wenjin let out a soft “Mm,” then, as if remembering something, tried to perk herself up. “Jiejie, don’t rush. Drive safely.”
Jian Mo agreed, but the moment the call ended, she immediately instructed Butler Wu to move.
The two left at the same time—Jian Mo from her office, and Butler Wu from home.
Jian Mo’s company was farther from the school, so Butler Wu arrived first.
Following Jian Mo’s instructions, she contacted Ye Wenjin as soon as she arrived and headed straight for the office to assess the situation.
However, her appearance in uniform stood out starkly in the school setting, drawing a lot of attention as she passed by.
Students were used to seeing teachers and classmates. A stranger dressed so formally piqued everyone’s curiosity. Some even thought a teacher was doing cosplay, snapped photos, and posted them on the school forum, stirring up a lively discussion.
When someone pointed out which direction she was headed, it sparked a new wave of speculation.
Meanwhile, in the rehearsal room, practice had been paused since Ye Wenjin had been called away, so the students were resting. Naturally, a few had already seen the forum posts and started whispering among themselves.
Rong Yunshu caught wind of the chatter and checked the forum. Her heart sank slightly.
She recognized Butler Wu. The fact that she had suddenly been summoned to school—and right after Ye Wenjin had been called away by a teacher—made it hard for Rong Yunshu not to suspect something.
She glanced instinctively at He Wenxi, only to see the girl smiling faintly. Her brows furrowed at once.
While rumors swirled in the classroom, in the office, Ye Wenjin finally relaxed a little upon hearing that Butler Wu had arrived.
She stood quietly with her eyes lowered, looking obedient and calm—but also strangely pitiful.
Every time Teacher Guan’s eyes swept over her, she couldn’t help but sigh internally.
What a completely unjust situation.
Ye Wenjin herself couldn’t understand who would hate her enough to do this.
She had earned her spot as lead dancer through her own abilities. Even without being told how important it was, she’d been taking the role seriously.
She cherished every opportunity that came her way, worked hard to build her experience, and dreamed that one day, she too could perform on a grand stage.
But the road was always full of obstacles. She was starting to feel lost.
Seeing her distracted and dispirited, Teacher Guan’s attitude softened.
In truth, she held Ye Wenjin in high regard. Among all the students, Ye Wenjin was the most talented and the most grounded. She treated every class, every performance, with dedication and passion.
Ye Wenjin truly loved dance. That sincerity showed through in every move. Her performances, though still raw, were rich in emotion and blended beautifully with the choreography—very moving to watch.
To be honest, Teacher Guan had originally wanted Ye Wenjin as the main dancer. Her self-choreographed routine had genuinely impressed her.
But two other teachers had strongly recommended He Wenxi, saying she better suited the performance’s theme. After some discussion, they ultimately chose He Wenxi as the main dancer.
Ye Wenjin came in second and was named lead dancer.
Teacher Guan felt some regret, but seeing Ye Wenjin so dedicated in rehearsals had only increased her admiration.
What she hadn’t expected was for someone to report Ye Wenjin for having an inappropriate relationship with an outsider—and even provide “evidence.”
It was like a hidden time bomb. If this got out, it wouldn’t just affect the performance, but the reputation of the entire school.
So after careful consideration, Teacher Guan decided to speak with Ye Wenjin first and try to get to the bottom of it.
Their conversation had already shifted her bias toward Ye Wenjin. Now they just had to wait for her people to arrive and clarify things—to minimize the damage.
Normally, all the involved teachers would be present for this. But…
Out of a desire to protect a talented student, Teacher Guan had chosen to speak with Ye Wenjin privately first.
They didn’t have to wait long before there was a knock at the door. Ye Wenjin’s eyes lit up and she moved to open it.
But it wasn’t Butler Wu standing there—it was two other teachers, Mr. Li and Ms. Yue.
Ye Wenjin looked confused. Behind her, Teacher Guan’s face darkened.
She frowned. “Mr. Li, Ms. Yue, what brings you here?”
“Teacher Guan, I should be asking you that. Were you planning to handle this with Ye Wenjin privately?”
Teacher Guan’s tone turned cold. “Mr. Li, please watch your words. I’m simply trying to understand the situation so we can investigate properly.”
Mr. Li scowled. “What’s left to investigate? The evidence is right in front of us. If this isn’t handled properly, do you realize how serious the consequences could be?”
Teacher Guan gave him a sharp look. “I’m well aware, Mr. Li. No need to panic.”
“Facts and truth will come out in time. Since Ye Wenjin claims she can prove her innocence, it’s only fair to see what she has. If we jump to conclusions without knowing the full story, and it turns out she was wrongfully accused, that would be just as damaging.
“I won’t allow any student to be falsely accused. And if someone did do something wrong, of course they should be punished. Surely you agree, Mr. Li?”
Mr. Li held his composure but twitched slightly at her words. “Of course, I feel the same.”
Ms. Yue didn’t say anything. Instead, she looked directly at Ye Wenjin.
“You mentioned you have proof?”
Ye Wenjin paused before replying softly, “I’ve asked the person involved to come. They should be here soon.”
Ms. Yue nodded and took a seat, clearly ready to listen.
Mr. Li also entered the office, the atmosphere growing increasingly tense—but Ye Wenjin seemed completely unfazed.
From their conversation, she could already sense something.
Teacher Guan was fair and upright, but she wasn’t so sure about Mr. Li.
Ye Wenjin quickly ran through her memories but couldn’t recall any past conflict with him.
She had always kept a respectful distance from her teachers—never tried to curry favor, but never caused trouble either.
So she couldn’t understand why Mr. Li seemed to hold a grudge against her.
Well, maybe not a grudge exactly… but there was definitely something off.
Thankfully, the awkward tension was interrupted by another knock on the door.
Ye Wenjin opened it again.
This time, she saw Aunt Wu. The moment she laid eyes on that familiar face, a lump rose in her throat.
“Aunt Wu…”
Seeing her like this, Butler Wu frowned deeply. “Miss Wenjin, have you been wronged?”
Ye Wenjin shook her head and glanced behind her. “Aunt Wu, didn’t Jiejie come with you?”
“She’s on her way from the office,” Aunt Wu said gently. “She’ll be here soon. Don’t be scared.”
Ye Wenjin nodded, falling silent again.
Seeing her so deflated, Butler Wu’s heart ached with indignation.
How had the bright, spirited girl she’d raised ended up like this just by going to school?
She might not know exactly what had happened, but that didn’t stop her from standing up for Ye Wenjin.
Even facing three teachers, Butler Wu remained composed, her polite smile masking her firm resolve.
“Please, could you wait just a little longer? My lady will be arriving shortly.”
Teacher Guan was surprised by her wording. As she recalled the figure in the photos, the more she looked, the more certain she became that this was the woman in question. But her tone and title threw her off.
And it wasn’t just her—Mr. Li and Ms. Yue also exchanged uncertain glances.
There was no doubt this woman was the one in the photos, but she wasn’t what they had imagined. Her bearing didn’t resemble a typical… well, anything they expected.
Mr. Li had been confident the “evidence” would be hard to refute. But now, looking at Butler Wu, he wasn’t so sure anymore. A sense of unease crept in.
Maybe things wouldn’t go so smoothly after all.
Ms. Yue kept her cool better than Mr. Li, saying nothing and simply watching.
After a moment of hesitation, Teacher Guan asked, “Ye Wenjin, this is…?”
Ye Wenjin was just about to answer, but Butler Wu spoke first with a smile. “My surname is Wu. I’m Miss Wenjin’s housekeeper. She’s kind and calls me Aunt Wu.”
Teacher Guan froze. When she thought back to the supposed “evidence,” everything suddenly clicked.
She frowned deeply. “Looks like there’s been a misunderstanding.”
Mr. Li couldn’t help interrupting, “But Teacher Guan, we haven’t gotten to the bottom of this. We can’t just take her word for it, can we?”
Teacher Guan shot him a look. “Why are you in such a rush, Mr. Li?”
He fell silent, uncertain what to say next.
Ms. Yue gave a faint smile. “Teacher Guan, I’m sure Mr. Li is just being cautious. It’s reasonable to verify both sides, right?”
Teacher Guan gave a cold laugh inwardly but didn’t let it show. No need to tear off masks just yet.
Now it was obvious—someone had tipped them off. That’s how they’d known Teacher Guan had called Ye Wenjin in.
Her gaze toward the other two teachers changed subtly.
Mr. Li was starting to panic. This whole thing was spiraling out of control, and he was beginning to regret getting involved.
Ye Wenjin noticed the shift in the room’s mood but remained quiet.
Ms. Yue, sensing the tension, also grew uneasy and was on the verge of making an excuse to leave when another knock came at the door.
Ye Wenjin, still by the door, opened it.
And there stood Jian Mo, her face expressionless. Ye Wenjin froze for a second. “Jiejie…”
Jian Mo’s expression softened only slightly when she saw her. “Xiao Jin, are you alright?”
“I’m okay,” Ye Wenjin said softly.
Jian Mo gave her a once-over. Seeing how drained she looked, her brows furrowed in concern.
Butler Wu leaned over and quietly explained the situation.
Jian Mo’s gaze turned icy as she stepped into the office and looked at the teachers.
Her sudden presence caught them off guard. None of them dared to speak.
Even without introducing herself, the authority and pressure she carried made it obvious—this woman was not someone to mess with.
Teacher Guan, sensing the shift, took a breath and asked, “Since everyone is here, may I ask how we should address you, miss?”
Butler Wu smiled. “Our lady’s surname is Jian.”
Teacher Guan nodded and began recounting the entire situation.
As she spoke, the room was dead silent—only her voice and Jian Mo’s increasingly cold expression filled the space.
She looked young, but the oppressive aura she exuded left no doubt in anyone’s mind: this wouldn’t be brushed off easily.
Once she finished, Teacher Guan handed over the so-called evidence—a stack of photographs.
Ye Wenjin finally saw them. They were of her and Aunt Wu, but the angles were deliberately misleading.
From the photos alone, their interactions looked unusually close, even ambiguous.
Ye Wenjin stared at them in disbelief. “Teacher Guan, can you tell me who reported me now?”
Mr. Li gritted his teeth. “Ye Wenjin, you haven’t proven your innocence yet—”
Halfway through, he felt a sharp glare pinning him down. His words faltered.
He followed the gaze—and met Jian Mo’s icy stare.
He wanted to say more, but she cut him off coldly. “If this is so serious, why aren’t any department heads present? Shouldn’t they all be here, Teacher Guan?”
Teacher Guan stood up silently to go fetch them.
Mr. Li and Ms. Yue turned pale.
By coincidence, the dean, secretary, and other senior faculty were all on campus today. Upon hearing the situation, they came immediately to investigate.
Ye Wenjin had only ever seen them in class—this was her first time meeting them like this.
After a few polite nods, the dean asked Teacher Guan to briefly summarize the case again.
Once she finished, the secretary’s angry voice echoed through the room. “Absolutely ridiculous!”
Teacher Guan’s explanation had been objective and thorough—from the report to the investigation. The leadership immediately saw through the situation. And they recognized the two women Ye Wenjin had brought.
The dean gave a short pause, then said, “Since that’s the case, Teacher Guan, please bring the informant here as well.”
Teacher Guan sighed internally, then nodded.
Ye Wenjin looked up, eyes fixed on the door.
But when she saw who walked in with Teacher Guan, her heart filled with confusion and disbelief.
He Wenxi? Why her?
