- Chapter 14 - Chance Encounter and Asserting Dominance
Cheng Yang rode in the ambulance with Xu Xun to the hospital.
After bl00d tests in the emergency room, they learned Xu Xun had acute urticaria.
The doctor prescribed medication and instructed her to take it for a week to monitor her condition.
In the emergency room, Xu Xun lay on the bed for a while.
Cheng Yang sat beside her, pressing three fingers firmly over the spot on Xu Xun’s arm where bl00d had been drawn.
“I told you you were allergic to peaches.”
Xu Xun pursed his lips slightly. “I wasn’t allergic before. I don’t know what happened today.”
After five minutes, Cheng Yang removed the cotton swab.
“The doctor said allergies are more likely when your immune system is weakened. You need to take better care of yourself from now on.”
Xu Xun’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I know.”
“Knowing isn’t enough,” Cheng Yang said after a moment’s thought. “No wonder. Aunt Jiang told me you’ve always had a poor appetite. You’re so busy with work that you don’t eat properly.”
The emergency room bed curtains separated them from the outside world.
Cheng Yang was surrounded by incessant noise. She had initially planned to have the driver pick them up later, but then she suddenly remembered her manager was still in the ICU receiving treatment.
Cheng Yang had the contact information for the ICU’s chief physician, but there had been no good news.
If her manager hadn’t switched places with her that day, it might have been Cheng Yang lying in the ICU right now.
Seeing Cheng Yang’s troubled expression, Xu Xun asked, “What’s on your mind?”
“Honey, I’m going to check on my manager,” Cheng Yang replied.
Xu Xun nodded. “Of course. I’ll come with you.”
Cheng Yang pulled her mask up to cover the lower half of her face and tugged her baseball cap down, leaving only her eyes visible.
“You’re not feeling well. The doctor just said you need to rest and be monitored. I’ll go alone and come back to get you later.”
Xu Xun moved her lips as if to protest, but finally nodded. “Alright. Come back soon. I’ll wait here for you.”
Cheng Yang stood up, pressed her cap down further, and slipped out from behind the bed curtain.
The ICU was on the fourth floor.
It was Saturday, and the hospital was unusually crowded.
Cheng Yang disliked being in crowded places, so she quickened her pace toward the elevator.
The elevator finally arrived, but before the doors could even open, the people behind her began pushing her forward.
Squeezed into the back, Cheng Yang sighed silently and stood obediently at the rear, not daring to move.
The elevator slowly ascended.
Despite Cheng Yang’s efforts to conceal herself completely, a few sharp-eyed fans recognized her.
Several Omegas in the elevator whispered among themselves.
“Isn’t that Cheng Yang?”
“She looks so familiar.”
“Is it really her?”
“It’s definitely her!”
“……”
Cheng Yang’s lips curved into a smile, but she forgot that her mask hid her expression.
When the elevator reached the fourth floor, Cheng Yang stepped out in front of everyone. The fans behind her followed.
One of the Omegas caught up to her, her face filled with concern. “Teacher Cheng Yang, is your injury healing well?”
Cheng Yang paused, turned to face the Omega who was a head shorter than her, and nodded. “Yes, I’m much better now. Thank you for your concern.”
Another Omega quickly pulled out Cheng Yang’s postcard from her bag, nervously swallowing. “Teacher Cheng Yang, could I get your autograph? I really love your work.”
Cheng Yang smiled and immediately removed her mask. “Of course.”
She took the black pen from the Omega’s hand and skillfully signed her name on the postcard.
The young fan’s hands trembled with excitement as she blinked her bright, watery eyes, staring intently at Cheng Yang’s face.
This was her first time being so close to Cheng Yang. The Alpha’s face was strikingly beautiful and intensely captivating.
Cheng Yang’s face already looked perfect on the big screen, but the fan never imagined she could look even more stunning in person, without any makeup—far more beautiful than she appeared on television.
Seeing the two fans so overwhelmed they could barely speak, Cheng Yang’s lips curved into a smile as she offered to take a photo with them.
She took one of the fans’ phones, opened the camera app, and asked softly, “Do you want to use a beauty filter?”
The fan shook her head. “No, no, no, no filter. I want to capture the real you in my album.”
“Okay.”
After taking the photos, one of the fans carefully pulled a palm-sized sheep plushie from her bag and gently handed it to Cheng Yang.
“Yangyang, this is a lucky charm I made myself. I wanted to give it to you.”
Cheng Yang’s eyes lit up as she accepted the plushie with both hands. “It’s so cute! You’re so talented.”
The plushie smelled faintly of peaches. Cheng Yang guessed it contained a peach-scented sachet.
The fan, overjoyed, stammered, “Yangyang, all the little sheep hope you get well soon and recover quickly!”
Cheng Yang paused, realizing that her fans referred to themselves as “little sheep.”
After chatting with the two fans for a while, Cheng Yang watched them board the elevator.
Clutching the delicate sheep plushie, she sat outside the ICU and texted her chief physician.
Cheng Yang: Chief Qiao, I’m at the ICU entrance. Could you please update me on my manager’s condition?
After waiting for a while, Chief Qiao replied that her manager remained unconscious but showed signs of improvement. He assured her that she would likely wake up soon.
Upon seeing the message, Cheng Yang let out a sigh of relief, hugging the small sheep plushie in her arms tighter.
She had wanted to put on a protective suit and visit the ICU, but today wasn’t the right time. Xu Xun was still waiting for her in the emergency room.
Cheng Yang sighed again, gazing at the tightly sealed ICU doors before standing up and heading toward the elevators.
The elevator was nearly empty. As she descended to the first floor and passed the waiting room, an Omega sitting by the clinic door grabbed her wrist.
“Cheng Yang?” the Omega asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Before Cheng Yang could fully turn her head, the Omega who had grabbed her wrist exclaimed in surprise, “It really is you!”
“Who are you?” Cheng Yang asked, looking at the Omega with a puzzled expression, instinctively pulling her hand free.
The Omega immediately removed her mask, revealing her alluringly beautiful face. “What are you saying? You don’t recognize me? I’m Ye Bingying.”
Cheng Yang’s gaze went slightly blank. She genuinely didn’t recognize this unfamiliar Omega.
Ye Bingying… why did that name sound so familiar?
“……”
Cheng Yang suddenly remembered what Xu Xun had told her in bed last night.
Xu Xun had said that Ye Bingying had harbored malicious intentions toward her and had even deliberately released pheromones to seduce her.
Cheng Yang warily retreated a few steps. “You’ve mistaken me for someone else.”
Seeing Ye Bingying’s stunned expression, Cheng Yang turned and walked away, trying to shake her off.
“Cheng Yang! I need to talk to you!”
Ye Bingying relentlessly pursued her, completely disregarding her image. “Wait for me!”
In her haste, Ye Bingying was knocked down by someone, her legs giving way as she crashed to the ground, twisting her ankle.
After being helped up by a passerby, she found that the person who had knocked her down had vanished without a trace.
With no time to search, Ye Bingying limped after Cheng Yang, her voice pleading, “Please, I’m begging you.”
Outside the emergency room, Cheng Yang stopped and slowly turned around.
Ye Bingying leaned against the wall, cold sweat streaming down her face from the pain, her eyes fixed intently on Cheng Yang.
Still confused about the situation, Cheng Yang firmly believed that Xu Xun’s words were for her own good, leaving her with a poor impression of the Omega before her.
“What do you want?”
Ye Bingying choked back a sob. “What’s wrong with you? Do you really hate me that much? You’re even lying to yourself, pretending you don’t recognize me…”
Cheng Yang felt only a sense of unfamiliarity. Not wanting to reveal too much, she chose not to answer the question.
“Is there something you need?”
Ye Bingying nodded. “It’s nothing urgent, really. It’s just that we haven’t spoken in so many years, and I’ve missed you. I wanted to talk to you more.”
Cheng Yang was completely lost, unable to grasp what Ye Bingying was trying to say.
“Mm-hmm.”
Sensing Cheng Yang’s relatively calm demeanor, Ye Bingying cautiously continued, “What happened back then was my fault. I didn’t mean for it to happen. I’ve always wanted to apologize, but I never had the chance.”
Cheng Yang’s brow furrowed slightly. “It’s been so long. I’d almost forgotten about it if you hadn’t brought it up.”
Though she said this, Cheng Yang actually knew nothing about the incident. She was using this vague statement to try and extract some useful information.
Sure enough, Ye Bingying fell for the trap.
“My heat cycle suddenly started early. I thought the person entering the room was my assistant, but it turned out to be you. It nearly led to a terrible mistake. It was all my fault.”
The Omega before her lowered her gaze, her voice soft and gentle, as light as water.
Cheng Yang couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was.
Ye Bingying noticed Cheng Yang heading toward the emergency room. “Are you feeling unwell? Has your car accident injury improved? I was scared half to death when I heard about it. I’m so glad you’re okay.”
Cheng Yang murmured, “Oh,” and added, “I have to go. See you later.”
Just as she turned to leave, a sudden gasp came from behind her.
Cheng Yang glanced back to see Ye Bingying sitting on the ground, clutching her ankle and wincing in pain.
Out of basic human decency, Cheng Yang bent down to help Ye Bingying up and gently guided her to a nearby seat.
Cheng Yang remained silent, but Ye Bingying called out to her.
“Cheng Yang, all these years, I’ve been hoping you could forgive me.”
Cheng Yang didn’t know what to say. Her mind felt utterly blank.
But Ye Bingying interpreted her expression as cold indifference.
“Let’s not dwell on the past. We won’t be working together again, and we won’t have any further contact.”
As soon as the words left her lips, a soft, warm hand closed around Cheng Yang’s wrist.
She whipped her head around and, upon seeing the Omega, blurted out instinctively, “Honey, what are you doing out here?”
The moment the words left her lips, the other two people in the room froze in shock.
Xu Xun recovered first, gazing at Cheng Yang with gentle eyes before glancing at Ye Bingying’s stiff, bewildered face.
“I came to check on you since you’d been gone so long,” he replied softly.
Cheng Yang answered obediently, “I ran into two fans on the way back. I signed autographs and took photos with them, which delayed me a bit. Please don’t be mad at me, okay?” Her voice carried a hint of playful coquettishness that anyone could hear.
“I thought you’d abandoned me at the hospital!”
“How could I ever do that? Honey, you’re being unfair!”
Xu Xun raised an eyebrow slightly, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Cheng Yang and Ye Bingying’s faces. He chuckled softly, the sound casual yet a subtle declaration of dominance.
“What did you tell me in bed last night?”
