- Chapter 19 - Self-Blame - The Amnesia Is Only Temporary
It was rush hour, and the hospital seemed even more crowded than during the day.
Cheng Yang was surrounded by a cacophony of noise.
Xu Xun wasn’t the only one who recognized Ye Bingying; Cheng Yang did too.
Ye Bingying stood at the emergency room entrance, her eyes crinkling into a smile as she met Xu Xun’s gaze.
All three were masked, their faces and hair completely concealed.
Xu Xun, disregarding the situation, pushed the wheelchair past Ye Bingying and hurried toward the triage desk.
Ye Bingying followed closely behind, realizing something was amiss shortly after Xu Xun took Cheng Yang away.
As someone in the industry, she could sense even the slightest disturbance.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Ye Bingying had never heard of Cheng Yang marrying Xu Xun; in fact, she’d recently heard about Cheng Yang’s engagement.
Her fiancé was the eldest daughter of the Su Family. How could she possibly be involved with Xu Xun?
Ye Bingying was utterly perplexed.
Based on Cheng Yang’s reaction to her, Ye Bingying guessed that Cheng Yang must have hit her head in the car accident, causing amnesia.
A sharp pain occasionally shot through the back of Cheng Yang’s head. Instead of enduring it silently, she whimpered softly to express her discomfort.
Xu Xun, of course, heard Cheng Yang’s whimpers.
The sounds were soft and coquettish, like a child whining for attention.
Xu Xun’s heart melted.
Yet her attention remained fixed on Ye Bingying behind them.
This Omega was like a persistent fly, impossible to swat away.
After Dongdong finished registering, Xu Xun sat on a nearby chair with Cheng Yang.
Cheng Yang’s gaze kept darting to Ye Bingying in the distance.
“Wife, why is that person so annoying?”
Xu Xun took Cheng Yang’s wrist and gently pressed it against her cheek.
She smiled, her eyes curving into crescents.
“Ignore her. Close your eyes and relax for a bit. That might help ease the pain.”
Cheng Yang obediently followed her instructions.
A while later, Cheng Yang’s name was called.
Xu Xun pushed her wheelchair forward, but before entering the examination room, she called Dongdong over to take over.
Cheng Yang clung to Xu Xun’s wrist, her eyes pleading.
“Wife, where are you going? Are you leaving me?”
Her voice was soft and husky, with a hint of seductive rasp.
Was it a plea, or simply reluctance to let go?
Xu Xun’s breath caught in her throat, her scalp tingling.
She lowered her voice, trying to sound as normal as possible.
“Yangyang, be good. Didn’t you say you didn’t like that person earlier? I’m going to chase her away.”
Xu Xun crouched down in front of Cheng Yang, gently pinching the Alpha’s earlobe.
“Be good, okay? Listen to the doctor inside and cooperate well.”
Cheng Yang removed her mask and smiled at Xu Xun. “Honey, I’m just sick, not regressed to a three-year-old. You’re making me feel so embarrassed talking to me like that.”
Xu Xun and Dongdong exchanged amused glances.
As Cheng Yang wheeled herself into the examination room, the tenderness in Xu Xun’s eyes vanished, replaced by an icy chill.
She turned and fixed her gaze on Ye Bingying, who stood in the corner not far away.
Before Xu Xun could approach, Ye Bingying blurted out, “What’s going on between you two? Why did Yangyang call you ‘honey’? Are you married?”
Xu Xun had anticipated this barrage of questions.
A smirk played on her lips as she raised an eyebrow at Ye Bingying.
“You ask too many questions, but I’ll tell you this: we’re definitely together.”
Ye Bingying’s eyes widened in disbelief. Though she had suspected it, she still couldn’t believe these two were actually together.
*Could it be they fell in love during their last film together?*
Ye Bingying gritted her teeth. She had imagined countless potential partners for Cheng Yang, but Xu Xun had never crossed her mind.
Xu Xun lacked the prestigious family background that had propelled Cheng Yang to stardom. Unlike Cheng Yang, who had landed a leading role in a film tailored for her by a renowned director right after her debut, Xu Xun had to claw her way up from bit parts and supporting roles.
On the contrary, Xu Xun had started as an extra, playing minor roles and clawing her way up through the entertainment industry. It took her several years to finally make a name for herself.
Ye Bingying felt Xu Xun was utterly unworthy of Cheng Yang.
The two women came from vastly different social classes—Xu Xun simply didn’t belong.
Xu Xun turned to leave after delivering her words, but Ye Bingying called out to stop her.
“Wait!”
“What else is there?” Xu Xun turned back, meeting Ye Bingying’s complex gaze. She noticed the other woman’s hesitation.
Ye Bingying clenched her jaw. “I don’t know what tricks you’ve been playing. Yangyang has amnesia. You’d better not try anything.”
Xu Xun couldn’t help but laugh at this.
“And who are you to say such things? Don’t you find yourself ridiculous?”
Ye Bingying was left speechless.
“I know you were classmates once, but even the bonds of friendship mean nothing to me. You’re just an outsider.”
Xu Xun’s lips curved into a smile, but her eyes remained cold and devoid of warmth.
“I’m Cheng Yang’s lover. As for you, you’re nothing. What right do you have to lecture me here?”
“You—!”
Ye Bingying’s heart ached with fury at the Omega before her.
She knew little about Xu Xun, having never collaborated with him. She had only heard from others that he was gentle, well-behaved, and avoided publicity or scandals.
But who was this silver-tongued Omega, who could leave her speechless with just a few casual words?
Xu Xun sighed. “You’ve been waiting here for me all day just to get an answer, haven’t you?”
“Then let me be clear: she and I are together now. You’d better put aside your twisted fantasies and remember what you did to her.”
With that, Xu Xun turned and walked away.
Ye Bingying stood outside the consultation room, watching the scene unfold through the open door.
She knew she looked like a pathetic clown. She had no dignity left to remain at the hospital.
Xu Xun noticed out of the corner of his eye that Ye Bingying had left. He subtly let out a sigh of relief and continued to wait anxiously outside.
After about five minutes, Director Zheng drew back the privacy curtain.
Xu Xun rushed inside, asking urgently, “Director Zheng, is my wife alright?”
Director Zheng disinfected his hands with alcohol. “It’s nothing serious. The stitches had slightly come undone. Your wife said she accidentally bumped it. She needs to be more careful.”
“The wound was finally close to healing. Now it’ll have to start over. It’ll probably take another week or two to heal completely.”
Cheng Yang sat obediently in her wheelchair, a fresh bandage wrapped around her head. She didn’t dare look Xu Xun in the eye.
Xu Xun thanked Director Zheng before pushing the wheelchair out of the examination room.
“Wife, let’s go home.”
Cheng Yang’s voice was small, knowing from Xu Xun’s expression that he was blaming himself again.
It was just a minor incident, but Cheng Yang understood: Xu Xun was terrified.
Perhaps traumatized by the earlier car accident, Xu Xun reacted to even the slightest mishap at home as if the sky were falling.
Cheng Yang knew Xu Xun loved her and worried about her, but she also realized this constant anxiety couldn’t continue. Over time, it would take a toll on both of their mental health.
It wasn’t until they were in the car that Cheng Yang’s rusty brain finally came up with something to cheer Xu Xun up.
“Honey, Director Zheng just praised my constitution, saying I’m recovering remarkably well.”
As she spoke, Cheng Yang deliberately raised her arm to demonstrate her regained strength.
A faint smile finally bloomed on Xu Xun’s lips.
“That’s good.”
Xu Xun pressed her forehead against Cheng Yang’s and murmured, “Do you know how terrified I was? I never want you to get hurt again.”
“Not even a little bit.”
Cheng Yang wrapped her arms around Xu Xun’s waist, pulling her into a close embrace.
She wanted to make Xu Xun even happier.
“Oh, and Director Zheng also said my amnesia is only temporary,” Cheng Yang chirped cheerfully. “She told me not to worry—my memories will come back soon!”
