- Chapter 14 - Utterly Chaotic Plot
The restaurant downstairs was a fusion-style eatery, and the food turned out to be surprisingly good.
Jiang Ciqiu sat in the corner, facing the entrance. After glancing at her phone for a while, she looked up just in time to see Jiang Wanhe walk in with a woman.
Upon closer inspection, that woman was none other than the female lead?!
Her heart instantly sank. Why were these two together? Had they already… on their first meeting?
But in the original plot, after the female lead was fired from the club, Jiang Wanhe would frequently visit the café where she found new work.
He didn’t do anything special—just brought his laptop, ordered an iced Americano, and sat there all afternoon. When the female lead got off work, he would leave.
Then, Jiang Ciqiu watched as Jiang Wanhe ordered… an iced Americano at the fusion restaurant.
That was all he ordered—just an iced Americano.
Meanwhile, the female lead asked for a glass of water.
Jiang Ciqiu quickly realized that, despite all the changes so far, the general direction of the plot remained unchanged.
Since this was a romance novel, the core theme was the development of the main couple’s relationship.
Everything else might change, but not that.
Jiang Ciqiu glared at the patch of sky visible through the window and cursed under her breath, “Damn it, what kind of ridiculous plot is this?!”
If it was going to stick to the original storyline, why throw in all these twists? How was she supposed to maintain her god’s-eye view now?
Rely on the romantic undertones for foresight?
She wasn’t the damn world’s consciousness—how could she possibly know everything?
Jiang Wanhe and the female lead began chatting, laughing and smiling as if they were getting along well. Watching from a distance, Jiang Ciqiu felt so agitated she lost her appetite entirely.
Matters of the heart were unpredictable. If she interfered carelessly and accidentally sped up their relationship, wouldn’t she be digging her own grave?
Before Jiang Ciqiu could figure out what to do, another person suddenly walked through the door.
That familiar profile instantly reminded her of the woman’s sharp, scolding tone toward her.
A surge of resentment mixed with frustration welled up in her chest.
Great. Chu Han was here too.
This plot was beyond messed up now.
She stood up from her seat and strode toward the newcomer.
Chu Han was still scanning the room when she finally spotted someone waving at her from the far corner.
She started heading that way, but just as she was about to enter, a woman suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into an embrace, then half-dragged her toward the exit.
The move was so abrupt that Chu Han didn’t react in time, allowing herself to be led.
Jiang Ciqiu managed to pull her a few steps forward before hearing someone call out, “Ye Zi? What are you doing?”
Jiang Wanhe had risen from his seat, looking like he was about to approach.
Finally snapping out of her daze, Chu Han said coldly, “Miss Jiang, what are you doing? Let go.”
Jiang Ciqiu cursed inwardly but had no choice but to retreat with her.
These two couldn’t meet yet—who knew what would happen next if they did?
“Ye Zi?”
Her cheap brother was still calling. Jiang Ciqiu forced a fake smile in his direction. She had intended to drag Chu Han into the restroom, but the door was inexplicably locked.
Panicking, she pulled her into another door, only to find it filled with stacked supplies.
Clearly, this was a storage room.
Jiang Wanhe knocked on the door. “Ye Zi, what are you doing? Why are you avoiding me?”
After several unanswered knocks, he leaned against the nearby wall to wait.
Only when the commotion outside died down did Jiang Ciqiu finally exhale in relief.
“What are you doing?” Chu Han asked.
Jiang Ciqiu glanced back and said, “Do me a favor—don’t go out yet.”
Chu Han replied bluntly, “No.”
“Just one, just one favor, okay?” Jiang Ciqiu held up a finger. “I helped you twice before, so let’s call it even.”
“Helped me twice?”
Chu Han shook her head. “You’re so forgetful. Which two times are you talking about? Last time at the club, or back in M Country?”
“Oh, M Country doesn’t count, but I apologized, and afterward, I did help you out a little. But at the Summer Club, I really did help you, didn’t I?”
“So, if you help me this time, we’ll be even, okay?”
Chu Han couldn’t be bothered to argue and repeated, “I already said no. I have plans—let me out.”
With that, she tried to move past Jiang Ciqiu.
Seeing that the other woman was completely unyielding, the young mistress’ temper flared up instantly.
Her spoiled arrogance ignited.
“Chu Han, I said stay put! Can’t whoever you’re meeting wait a little longer?”
But Chu Han didn’t seem intimidated. Instead, she looked at Jiang Ciqiu’s puffed-up cheeks and suddenly smiled.
Her peach-blossom eyes curved slightly, glimmering with amusement.
Jiang Ciqiu had never encountered someone who laughed in a situation like this and was momentarily at a loss.
“W-what are you doing? Didn’t you hear what I said?”
“I heard,” Chu Han took a few steps forward, tilting her head slightly. “Miss Jiang really is domineering.”
The words made Jiang Ciqiu uncomfortable, but she didn’t dwell on it. “So just stay here quietly, and I’ll talk to my father about your family’s business later.”
Chu Han chuckled, her dark eyes fixed on Jiang Ciqiu’s. “Oh, so I should be grateful then?”
Jiang Ciqiu frowned, catching the mockery in her tone, but now wasn’t the time to argue.
“Just stay here.”
The knocking outside started again.
Jiang Wanhe called through the door, “Ye Zi, what are you doing in there? Is something wrong?”
“Ye Zi? If something’s wrong, your brother can help.”
“Ye Zi!”
“…”
When the knocking stopped, Chu Han, seeing Jiang Ciqiu’s expressionless face, asked, “Aren’t you going to answer?”
Jiang Ciqiu exhaled slowly and looked at her seriously. “Stay here. Don’t come out until I come back for you, understand?”
Chu Han stayed silent, so Jiang Ciqiu took it as agreement.
She turned and walked toward the door.
Just then, Chu Han added from behind her, “Your brother seems very concerned about you.”
Jiang Ciqiu glanced back and saw her expression unchanged, as if she’d just made an offhand remark without expecting a response.
She clicked her tongue lightly. “In a way, I suppose.”
Then she stepped forward and quietly opened the door to leave.
Once outside, Jiang Ciqiu was glad she’d come out when she did.
Jiang Wanhe had just arrived with a group of security guards and a staff member holding a key, ready to unlock the door.
Jiang Ciqiu immediately shut it behind her. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I was worried. You were dragged in there, and when I knocked, you didn’t answer. I thought something happened.”
The man spoke, but his eyes kept darting toward the door.
Jiang Ciqiu scoffed inwardly—was he blind? Couldn’t he see she was the one who had dragged someone in?
But the chances of that were slim. Most likely, he was lying through his teeth, wanting to see who was inside.
Could he already be suspicious?
“I’m fine, so can these people leave now?”
Since Jiang Wanhe had said those words, he couldn’t contradict himself so quickly, so he waved his hand to dismiss them.
But he wasn’t completely convinced. With a fake smile, he asked, “Who’s inside? A friend of Ye Zi’s?”
“What difference does it make? Don’t tell me you want to befriend my friends too?”
Jiang Ciqiu narrowed his eyes: “So once wasn’t enough for you?”
