“Not exactly intentional,” Chu Han shrugged. “I just didn’t dodge the falling cargo. The pain was real, and so was the fracture.”
Jian Shu looked at her like she was insane. “Chu Han, you’ve once again redefined my understanding of madness.”
“You went through all this just for free care and compensation without working?”
“Of course not,” Chu Han laughed. “Do you really think I’m that shallow?”
Jian Shu pointed at her cast-covered leg.
“Who knows?”
Suddenly hugging herself, Jian Shu shuddered. “Why did I ever become friends with you?”
Chu Han wheeled her chair slightly, her tone teasing. “It wasn’t you choosing to be friends with me—it was me being the only one willing to be friends with you.”
“So, I should feel honored, then?”
“You’re welcome.”
“…I didn’t say thank you.”
Chu Han: “I know you wanted to.”
Jian Shu tilted her head. “Hey, our Miss Chu seems to be in a good mood? Why’s that?”
The woman in the wheelchair rested one hand on her knee while the other tapped idly on the armrest, gazing leisurely into the distance.
Jian Shu adjusted her glasses, a slow smirk forming. “So, what were you originally going to tell me?”
“Oh, just about my personal assets. I’ve already poured everything into the market. It’ll yield returns soon. I planned to return only after securing liquid funds, but thanks to a certain Miss Jiang, I had to come back early.”
“So, she’s the ‘foolish woman’ you mentioned,” Jian Shu couldn’t help but chuckle.
Chu Han: “Want me to rent you a loudspeaker so you can announce it to the world?”
“No need, thanks.”
“…”
Jian Shu wiped tears of laughter from her eyes. “Then why are you living with this foolish woman?”
“Because I’m a little intrigued.”
“By her?” Jian Shu’s expression turned suggestive.
“Absolutely not!” Chu Han frowned slightly. “Jian Shu, what’s wrong with your mind?”
Jian Shu shrugged. “If you say so. Then why?”
“It seems she doesn’t want me to meet her brother.”
“Her brother? Jiang… Jiang Wanhe?”
Chu Han nodded.
Recalling the incident at the restaurant, Jian Shu had indeed seen Jiang Wanhe.
“Why?”
Chu Han shook her head. “No idea.”
Jian Shu pondered for a moment before her brows relaxed with sudden realization. Just as she was about to speak, Miss Jiang’s voice rang out from afar.
“Hey, what are you two doing up there instead of coming down?”
Chu Han replied, “Waiting for you.”
“Why wait for me? Can’t she push you down?”
“She could, but this is your fault—”
Jiang Ciqiu covered her ears and shook her head. “Ah—I already said I get it! I’ll take responsibility, so stop rubbing it in!”
Jian Shu lost her chance to speak privately with Chu Han and stepped back, yielding her position.
Jiang Ciqiu wheeled Chu Han downstairs while Jian Shu trailed a few steps behind, thoughtfully observing their backs with her chin in hand.
At the doorway, Jiang Ciqiu stopped.
Jian Shu stepped forward. “I’ll get the car.”
Jiang Ciqiu stopped her. “No need. I’ve called someone.”
“Who?”
Chu Han also turned to look.
Jiang Ciqiu glanced at them calmly, exasperated. “Didn’t she want me to take responsibility? Well, I’m taking responsibility!”
“So, you’re the driver?” Chu Han smirked.
“What else? Did you expect me to push your wheelchair to the new place?”
“If you’re willing…”
“This young lady is NOT willing!”
Jian Shu pouted and stepped aside.
The Jiang heiress’s temper was no small matter.
That Chu Han always had a habit of provoking others, and Jian Shu couldn’t stop her—she’d always been eccentric like that.
Jian Shu was used to it by now.
But honestly, she’d rather not get burned by the fallout.
“But what about my belongings?”
Jiang Ciqiu thought for a moment. “Can your friend help pack for you?”
They answered simultaneously.
Chu Han: “Yes.”
Jian Shu: “No.”
After exchanging glances, Chu Han’s lips tightened. “No?”
“Didn’t I tell you I’m swamped? After today’s hospital trip, I’ll definitely have to work overtime. When would I find the time?”
Jiang Ciqiu: “So can you or not?”
Jian Shu: “No.”
Jiang Ciqiu looked at Chu Han, who said, “Seems she really can’t.”
“Do you have many things?”
“Not much—just some clothes, daily necessities, and important documents.”
“Your documents aren’t urgently needed. I’ll have someone bring them over in a few days. As for clothes and essentials, everything’s already provided there.”
Jiang Ciqiu added, “You only need to move in with your personal bag.”
“I don’t have a bag.”
Jiang Ciqiu pressed her lips together, closed her eyes, then pointed at Chu Han’s plaster-casted right leg.
“This ‘bag’ counts too.”
A dazzling red sports car pulled into view, stopping before them.
Bai Chen’an stepped out from the driver’s seat and opened the rear door. “Miss.”
Jiang Ciqiu said, “We’re here. Let’s go.”
She helped Chu Han inside while Bai Chen’an assisted, then returned the wheelchair to the hospital.
Jian Shu took a call and told Chu Han, “I’m heading back to the office first. Contact me if anything comes up. As for your things… I’ll try to pack what I can.”
“I knew you wouldn’t really abandon me. You’re not that heartless.”
“Don’t flatter me. I said I’ll try—emphasis on ‘try,’ like 10% effort! Alright, I’m off.”
Chu Han nodded. “I’ll message you later. We still need to finish our discussion from earlier.”
“The plate?”
“Exactly.”
“Fine, hit me up later.” She waved. “Let’s hang out properly once this busy period passes.”
Bai Chen’an returned after returning the wheelchair, and Jiang Ciqiu finally took her seat in the back.
Exhausted from the day’s events, both women grew drowsy as Bai Chen’an’s smooth driving lulled them.
Peeking at them through the rearview mirror, Bai Chen’an smiled, his gaze lingering slightly longer on Chu Han before looking away.
The apartment had been selected by Jiang’s father—originally intended as a backup property he was still considering. But since Jiang Ciqiu needed it urgently, he purchased it outright.
His exact words over the phone were: “Your mother and I planned to get one each for you and your brother. This one was meant for Jiang Wanhe, but since you need it now, it’s yours. Don’t come asking me for another place afterward.”
The unit’s layout was conventional yet decent—precisely the boxy style Jiang Wanhe preferred.
Jiang Ciqiu’s taste in apartments, however, tended toward the unconventional.
But for the sake of “taking responsibility,” she had no choice but to agree: “Alright, I understand.”
And so it was settled with finality—the matter was decided just like that.
