- Chapter 19 - You're Not Allowed to Like Her
Jiang Ciqiu stated matter-of-factly, “Of course not. The walk-in closet is part of the master bedroom. If you want to use it together, that means you’d have to come to my room to change clothes.”
“Is that all?”
The young lady of the Jiang family widened her eyes. “What do you mean, ‘Is that all’? Isn’t that important enough?”
Chu Han pushed her wheelchair forward. “I’m injured now, so changing clothes isn’t easy. I definitely need help.”
“…You mean,” Jiang Ciqiu slowly pointed at herself, “me?”
Chu Han nodded, her expression calm, as if this were the most natural thing in the world.
But the usually unrestrained young lady of the Jiang family suddenly flushed bright red, stammering, “Me? Me? I-I-I—”
“Why are you blushing?”
“It’s hot!”
Her voice was so loud it startled Chu Han. “Lower your voice. If you’re hot, just turn on the AC.”
“I know that! I don’t need you to remind me!”
She ran past Chu Han, turned the AC to the lowest setting, and stood under the vent, letting the cold air blow directly on her face.
After cooling down her overheated brain enough to function again, she turned back to Chu Han. “You only fractured your right calf—you’re not paralyzed. Can’t you change clothes yourself?”
“My leg hurts.”
“What does that have to do with me? Don’t you dare say it’s my fault!”
Jiang Ciqiu cut her off preemptively.
A faint smile slowly surfaced in Chu Han’s deep eyes, as if Jiang Ciqiu’s words had given her an idea. She smirked. “Because it is your fault.”
A breath caught in Jiang Ciqiu’s throat, stuck uncomfortably between inhale and exhale. But on this point, she was undeniably at fault.
The manager approached her. “Miss Jiang, as per your request, Miss Chu’s clothes have been moved to the other room.”
Jiang Ciqiu exhaled the breath she’d been holding and leaned toward Chu Han. “Everything’s already been moved over.”
The implication was clear—there was nothing Chu Han could do about it now.
Then she tugged the manager aside. “I’ll go with you to sign the bill.”
The manager was flustered by the unexpected attention. “Thank you, Miss Jiang.”
The two of them left together, leaving Chu Han alone in the room.
A smile tugged at her lips as she wheeled herself over to the sofa.
She hadn’t actually intended for Jiang Ciqiu to help her change clothes—she just found her reactions amusing and had casually teased her. But the girl’s response was even more entertaining than she’d expected.
Before long, Jiang Ciqiu suddenly burst back through the door.
“Chu Han! You were the one who told them to move the clothes into the walk-in closet! You did this on purpose!”
The woman in the wheelchair let her faint smile widen, then turned her laughing eyes toward Jiang Ciqiu, chuckling softly in delight.
The warm hues of the sunset streaming through the balcony bathed her in a gentle glow, making her look breathtakingly beautiful—like someone plucked straight from a memory.
Jiang Ciqiu froze for a moment before averting her gaze. Without waiting for a response, she quickly made up an excuse to escape.
“I think they’re calling me! I’ll go check!”
Then she turned and fled without looking back.
For dinner, Bai Chen’an had originally planned to take them out, but Chu Han declined, saying she had something to attend to.
So, it was just the two of them.
Since it was rare for them to have a meal together, Bai Chen’an wanted to take her to a high-end restaurant, but Jiang Ciqiu refused.
Her reason? “I’m sick of eating at these places every day. At least when it’s just you, Chen’an-ge, don’t take me to them.”
As the eldest daughter of the Jiang family, these high-end restaurants were part of her daily routine.
Bai Chen’an knew this, but he also understood her thoughts well. He smiled and said, “You don’t need to save money for your brother. I can still afford a meal.”
The girl, whose thoughts had been seen through, replied leisurely, “Of course I won’t save money for you. After all these years of not taking me out to eat, this is the least you owe me.”
“But I’m really tired of these restaurants. Let’s try something different. There’s a night market in the neighborhood up north—how about we go there? The grilled squid from one of the stalls is seriously delicious!”
Bai Chen’an looked at her, his eyes crinkling with amusement. “You know so much about it—you must go there often.”
“Mhm.” Jiang Ciqiu wore a proud expression.
“But don’t you need to bring food back for Miss Chu? Are you planning to pack street snacks for her?”
“…Can’t she figure it out herself?”
Bai Chen’an spread his hands. “Didn’t you two discuss it?”
“I thought her not coming meant she’d handle it herself.”
“…”
Seeing his exasperated expression, Jiang Ciqiu closed her eyes and sighed. “Fine, fine, I get it. On the way back, I’ll grab something for her from a restaurant.”
Bai Chen’an suggested, “You could text or call her to ask.”
“…”
“Don’t want to? I can do it instead.”
Jiang Ciqiu turned to him woodenly. “I don’t have her contact info.”
A small frown gradually formed on the man’s face, then twisted into full-blown confusion. “Huh?”
“Is it really that weird not to have her number?”
“You’re living together, yet you don’t have her contact info—that is weird.”
“Bai Chen’an!” Jiang Ciqiu planted her hands on her hips, looking furious. “Let me make this clear to you again—we are not living together! Not living together! She’s just staying temporarily!”
“Is there… any difference?”
“There’s a huge difference! Temporary means she’ll move out eventually!”
“Living together could also—”
“Brother Chen’an, you’re not allowed to argue with me!”
Bai Chen’an raised his hands in surrender. “Alright, alright, my bad. I won’t say another word.”
Only then did Jiang Ciqiu relent.
As the two set off again and turned toward the night market, Bai Chen’an asked another question: “So who exactly is she?”
Jiang Ciqiu, unfastening her seatbelt to get out of the car, didn’t catch his meaning. “Who’s who?”
“Miss Chu. Who is she?”
Jiang Ciqiu replied flatly, “No one. Just someone I picked up off the street.”
Bai Chen’an laughed. “Is it really that easy to find pretty people on the street?”
The woman seemed to latch onto a keyword, whipping her head around to glare at him, her gaze sharp. “Brother Chen’an, you’re not allowed to like her!”
“I—what? When did I say I liked her?”
“You said she’s pretty.”
“But that doesn’t mean I like her. I’ve always thought you were pretty too, Ye Zi—does that mean I like you?”
Jiang Ciqiu nodded. “Fair point.”
But then she quickly added, “But a lot of relationships start with attraction. Anyway, Brother Chen’an, you’re not allowed to fall for Chu Han.”
Seeing that reasoning wouldn’t work, Bai Chen’an gave a helpless smile. “She’s not my type, so don’t worry. I won’t like her.”
Only then did Jiang Ciqiu exhale in relief.
Chu Han was the “white moonlight”—the idealized first love. After the male lead met her, his possessiveness would skyrocket, and he’d eliminate anyone who liked her.
And once he stopped liking her, everyone connected to the white moonlight would be caught in the crossfire.
Jiang Ciqiu knew his abilities were limited and he couldn’t protect everyone completely, so the best approach was to nip all potential dangers in the bud.
Bai Chen’an had no idea—nor could he possibly know—what Jiang Ciqiu was thinking.
Getting out of the car, he muttered, “This little guy sure is possessive.”
