- Chapter 20 - Help Me Take a Bath
During their night market stroll, Bai Chen’an tried every possible way to uncover Chu Han’s identity and her exact relationship with Jiang Ciqiu.
He didn’t dare ask directly, afraid of triggering his “overly possessive” little sister—whom he had watched grow up—so he resorted to indirect questioning.
But all he managed to learn was one detail: Chu Han’s leg had been fractured because of Jiang Ciqiu.
As an older brother, Bai Chen’an immediately felt a pang of disappointment toward his little sister.
Could she be… abusive?
No, no, impossible! He had watched Ye Zi grow up. Though she could be a bit spoiled, she had a kind heart.
And she would never hit a woman… Well, except for that incident not long ago.
Bai Chen’an’s expression shifted slightly, and he suddenly turned to scrutinize his now-grown little sister.
Jiang Ciqiu, holding two skewers of grilled squid in her hands, noticed his gaze and slowly turned her head. “You haven’t even finished yours yet. Don’t even think about mine.”
Bai Chen’an: ?
Then, realizing what she meant, he couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t want yours.”
“Good.”
The girl swayed forward, and Bai Chen’an shook his head slowly.
There was no way Jiang Ciqiu—this Jiang Ciqiu—would ever be capable of domestic violence.
Completely unaware that she had just narrowly escaped being labeled an “abuser,” the girl happily strolled ahead, a large skewer of grilled squid in each hand.
Meanwhile, in the new apartment, the woman in the wheelchair slid open the balcony door, stepping from the cool indoors into the stifling heat outside.
Skyscrapers towered around her, neon lights painting the night in vibrant hues.
Chu Han gazed quietly for a moment before pulling out her phone and dialing the number of her only friend.
After a few rings, it connected. Jian Shu, sitting in the vice president’s office, gulped down an iced Americano.
She answered the phone and immediately set it aside. “You better make it quick. Vice President Jian is swamped right now.”
The sound of rustling papers and keyboard clattering came through the phone.
“Fine, I’ll be quick. I need a favor.”
“What favor? Chu Han, don’t push it. I’m already so busy I might grow three heads and six arms. And now you’re asking for help? After all these years of friendship, you really have no conscience.”
Chu Han curved her lips, tapping her fingers lightly on the wheelchair armrest.
“Help me analyze the market. I’ll give you twenty percent of the profits.”
The typing stopped. Jian Shu tilted her head. “Oh? Is the esteemed Miss Chu actually complimenting me?”
“I’ve never been stingy with praise.”
“Oh, really?” Jian Shu chuckled. “You sound so calm I almost believed you.”
“Alright, seriously, what are you planning next?”
Chu Han: “Recovering. Once your analysis is done, I’ll get back to trading.”
With over a month to stay in this apartment, cared for without worrying about food or shelter, she had plenty of time.
Jian Shu asked offhandedly, “What’s your starting capital? And how much are you expecting to multiply it by?”
“Three hundred. At least quadruple.”
“Fifteen hundred? That’s barely trading.”
“Million.”
“…Chu Han, how many more things are you hiding from me?” She leaned closer to the phone, lowering her voice. “Where did you get three million?”
To ensure Chu Han married an elite among elites and elevate the Chu family into high society, her father had always kept her upbringing tightly controlled.
For this reason, they never gave her too much money, afraid she might develop her own ideas and the ability to escape.
Under such circumstances, how did Chu Han manage to get three million?
“The university scholarships always went to me, and I dabbled in stock trading on and off for four or five years, barely scraping together three million.”
Jian Shu shook her head in admiration and clapped twice for her. “Chu Han, you’re amazing—a real survivor.”
“Cockroaches from the slums have the toughest will to live.”
The living room lights suddenly flicked on. Chu Han said, “She’s back. I’ll hang up now.”
“Alright, I’ll send you the analysis report by the day after tomorrow at the latest.”
After hanging up, Jian Shu couldn’t snap out of it for a long time. Twenty percent of 1,500 was 300!
She was going to make it big!
Just analyzing something to earn three million—she was about to strike gold!
Chu Han turned her wheelchair in a circle and was about to open the balcony door when the person inside pulled it open first.
The woman’s gaze instinctively looked straight ahead before she suddenly realized something and lowered her eyes to meet Chu Han’s.
Then, lifting the exquisitely packaged takeout box in her hand, she called out, “Dinner’s here.”
Chu Han nodded and wheeled herself inside.
Jiang Ciqiu stepped aside to give her enough space to enter. Only after Chu Han had fully come in did she close the door with one hand.
Then she carried the food box over and placed it on the living room coffee table—just the right height for Chu Han to eat from her wheelchair.
As she unpacked the dishes one by one, a faint sheen of sweat formed on Jiang Ciqiu’s temples, dampening her hair and sticking it to her skin.
Chu Han stared at the damp strands.
“I ordered a bone broth. They say you recover faster by eating what strengthens you, so drink more of it. Then move out sooner.”
Chu Han chuckled. “You’re not even trying to hide how much you want me gone, are you?”
“Why should I hide it? I do want you to move out sooner.”
Once everything was laid out, Jiang Ciqiu clapped her hands together. “Alright, eat up. I walked all the way here—I’m going to take a shower first.”
Among the array of light dishes, Chu Han spotted something different.
“Is this grilled squid? Do restaurants serve this?”
The food was clearly from a high-end restaurant—not only was the packaging refined, but the dishes themselves were beautifully presented, each complementing the others like an artful display.
That’s why the grilled squid, with its strong aroma of spices, stood out so starkly.
The woman, who had already walked a few steps away, turned back. “If you don’t like it, don’t eat it.”
“Did you go to the night market? You reek of it.”
Jiang Ciqiu sniffed her clothes—the smell really was strong.
“So, this is something you like? You brought me your favorite food?”
“Hey, don’t twist my words! I just thought since this stuff is so delicious, there’s no way anyone could dislike it. So, I was being nice and brought you one skewer! If you don’t like it, just leave it there. No one’s forcing you.”
Jiang Ciqiu’s face flushed with frustration. “Don’t be ridiculous!”
Chu Han nodded. “Oh, I see.”
Only then did Jiang Ciqiu turn and hurry into the master bedroom.
The apartment was fully furnished and regularly cleaned, so it was spotless.
But Bai Chen’an had said it would take two more days to select a housekeeper, so Jiang Ciqiu planned to rely on takeout for meals in the meantime.
After her shower, she thought about going to discuss this with Chu Han.
“Finished eating?” She walked out while drying her hair, noticing Chu Han had already packed away the food containers.
“By the way, I need to tell you something. I’ll be going to work, so I won’t be home for lunch. You’ll need to order takeout yourself. If you’re short on money, I can send you some first.”
She handed over her phone: “Let’s exchange contact information so you can reach me if needed.”
Chu Han looked up in mild surprise, not expecting this Jiang heiress to be unexpectedly dependable.
After exchanging contacts, Jiang Ciqiu was about to return to her room to sleep when the woman behind her suddenly called out, saying: “I want to take a bath.”
“Go ahead then.”
Chu Han: “My leg.”
Her back stiffening, Jiang Ciqiu slowly turned around: “Y-you want me to bathe you?”
“It seems… this is the only solution available.”
