- Chapter 27 - A Permanent Meal Ticket
Miss Su had another overreaction, glaring at her with wide eyes: “What do you take me for? A beggar?”
No sooner had she spoken than her stomach let out a loud growl.
Su Huaijin’s face instantly flushed red. She clutched her stomach and shot Jian Shu a threatening look.
The woman didn’t even have the energy to laugh, raising her hands in surrender. “I didn’t hear a thing.”
Miss Su gave her a look that said, “You’d better not have,” then wiped her tears and stood up from the couch. “I refuse to eat in the employee cafeteria.”
Jian Shu couldn’t care less—eat or don’t eat. She headed straight for the cafeteria, but the spoiled young lady actually stuck to her word and refused to eat.
The newly appointed and overworked Vice President Jian couldn’t handle this kind of hassle and had no choice but to relent. “Fine, fine. Miss Su, just tell me what you want, and I’ll order from the restaurant downstairs, okay?”
Miss Su thought for a moment. “Can’t we go down to eat?”
“With those red eyes?” Jian Shu glanced up at her.
Su Huaijin immediately understood what she meant and grabbed a compact mirror to check her eyes. Her makeup was slightly smudged, but in Jian Shu’s eyes, it wasn’t too bad. However, her entire eye area was red and swollen—anyone could tell at a glance.
“Why didn’t you tell me?!” Miss Su felt her aloof image had been utterly ruined. Pouting angrily, she snapped, “You—you, this vice president!”
Jian Shu sighed. “My name is Jian Shu. And I thought you knew.”
She’d said it over a dozen times, but this woman still hadn’t bothered to remember, too wrapped up in her own emotions.
“I’m going back!” Su Huaijin snatched up her handbag and stormed off in her high heels at lightning speed.
By the time Jian Shu caught up with her, she was already back in her office, sitting on the couch in the lounge area—almost exactly where she’d been before.
Jian Shu’s head was pounding. She walked over and handed her phone to Su Huaijin. “Order whatever you want. It’ll be delivered soon.”
This time, she didn’t refuse. But as she scrolled through the menu, the young lady suddenly asked, “So, you’re only treating me to this one meal?”
Jian Shu thought to herself: Obviously. How many more do you expect?
But she didn’t say it out loud, pretending not to hear. Anyone with a bit of tact would understand this was a rejection.
Clearly, the “naïve” Miss Su didn’t see it that way. Thinking she hadn’t spoken loudly enough, she repeated herself.
“So, you’re only treating me to one meal?”
Stay calm, stay calm… She’s the boss’s daughter. I just got this job. Can’t afford to offend her…
Jian Shu closed her eyes and forced a smile. “Mhm.”
Su Huaijin, who had assumed her question would secure her meals for the next month, was stunned by the indifferent “Mhm.”
Displeased, she huffed, “You won’t treat me because I’m not worthy, is that it?”
“Surely President Su wouldn’t withhold your meal allowance…”
Su Huaijin nodded emphatically. “Exactly! That old man wants to starve me to death! Don’t underestimate how ruthless he is—if he can do this to his own daughter, imagine what he’d do to his employees…”
“……”
Jian Shu watched her exaggerated expressions of cunning with amusement.
She looked like a child trying to act like an adult, but her demeanor and physique didn’t match the act.
Add to that her supposedly shrewd short haircut and sharp makeup, paired with those comically exaggerated expressions—it was downright hilarious.
Jian Shu couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smile, then quickly turned away to hide it, pretending to cough twice behind her hand.
Given this bit of “humor,” Jian Shu could treat her to another meal, but becoming her permanent meal ticket was absolutely out of the question.
Upon hearing this, Miss Su pouted openly, making no effort to conceal her displeasure.
“You’re in cahoots with my dad,” she declared with absolute certainty.
Jian Shu didn’t bother responding, letting her think whatever she wanted.
When the phone was handed back after ordering, a message came through—from Miss Su’s so-called “heartless father.”
After reading it, Jian Shu’s expression turned ashen.
Great. Now she was stuck with this troublesome matter.
The “heartless father” wanted her to look after his troublesome daughter, with expenses reimbursed later, and insisted she keep this arrangement from Su Huaiji.
Taking a moment to compose herself, Jian Shu addressed the sulking young lady who seemed convinced the whole world was against her: “I’ll cover your meals from now on…”
Su Huaiji’s eyes instantly lit up, her short, sleek hair doing nothing to hide the sheer foolishness in her gaze.
“Wow! Vice President, you’re such an angel!”
She practically bounced off the couch in excitement, throwing her arms around Jian Shu with a grin. “You’re nothing like those employees around my dad. When I inherit the company, I’ll definitely promote you!”
Jian Shu opened her mouth to say her position couldn’t possibly go any higher—since the current CEO also served as chairman—but then realized if Su Huaiji took over, stepping down as general manager might be inevitable.
Of course, that was assuming the company didn’t collapse under her leadership. Jian Shu gave her a once-over and had serious doubts.
The next moment, she pitied herself again.
It was precisely because the CEO’s only heiress was so unreliable that she’d been assigned as her mentor.
Already swamped with work, now saddled with this spoiled heiress, Jian Shu foresaw nothing but headaches ahead.
Yet the “dimwitted young master” was still gleefully celebrating her newfound meal ticket, clinging to Jian Shu like a limpet.
After several failed attempts to pry her off, Jian Shu sighed and managed to place a lunch order for the young lady through the gap between her arms and hair.
She couldn’t very well let her starve.
–
On her second day at work, Jiang Ciqiu only began properly learning her job responsibilities in the afternoon.
Whoever arranged this department clearly intended it to be an easy ride—specifically for Jiang Ciqiu.
While others were swamped with work, she mostly sat idle, occasionally being timidly asked by overwhelmed colleagues, “Ciqiu, could you print this for me?”
That counted as work.
Finally, nearing the end of the day, Jiang Ciqiu asked her supervisor the burning question: “What department is this anyway?”
The petite, adorable supervisor blinked in disbelief. “This… this is the Design Department…”
Design Department?!
Jiang Ciqiu felt like she’d been struck by lightning.
The Design Department?! The company’s most critical division?!
What on earth was she doing here?!
Jiang Ciqiu immediately understood—this definitely wasn’t arranged by Jiang Wanhe. It must have been orchestrated by her dear Daddy.
The subsidiary company’s operations weren’t as extensive as the parent company’s, but under Jiang Wanhe’s leadership, they had achieved modest success.
In this regard, Jiang Ciqiu actually admired him quite a bit. Running a subsidiary company well required genuine capability.
No wonder Father Jiang ultimately placed such trust and high regard in him.
