- Chapter 7 - Reunion with the White Moonlight
Using the word “kind” to describe her was no different from calling her stupid.
Jiang Ciqiu thought this and smiled faintly.
It had been so long since anyone had said such things to her. It seemed this gathering was meant to attract newcomers.
But recently, the Jiang family didn’t have any small projects to share with them, so putting effort into her was useless.
Besides, some people couldn’t even bother to flatter her properly, so Jiang Ciqiu had even less interest in speaking up for them.
She would just find an excuse to leave later.
Though she could leave now if she wanted—no one would dare say anything—she didn’t want to go home too early and run into Jiang Wanhe.
Right now, the mere sight of him disgusted her.
Leaning against the wall for a while, Jiang Ciqiu felt her current aura was perfect for a cigarette.
Lighting one up, leaning against the wall, her melancholic face faintly visible through the curling smoke—she’d definitely captivate countless young men and women.
But unfortunately, she didn’t smoke, nor did she plan to.
Not for health reasons, but simply because she had a little quirk—she loved pleasant scents.
And she disliked the smell of any kind of tobacco.
Because of this, even her father had quit smoking.
On rare occasions when business required him to smoke a few, he would make sure to rid himself of the smell before returning home.
Speaking of pleasant scents, Jiang Ciqiu thought of someone—the white moonlight whose surname was Chu, whose name she still didn’t know.
Her scent had been quite nice, though the circumstances at the time hadn’t allowed her to ask what perfume she was wearing.
Outside the private room was a long hallway, with other rooms on either side.
The thick, soundproof doors muffled all noise from within, not letting a single sound escape.
This was one of the reasons Xiaxin Club was so popular among their circle.
Since she was already out here, she might as well visit the restroom.
Jiang Ciqiu started walking in that direction, but before she could take more than a few steps, a staff member hurried past her from behind.
The woman was dressed in the club’s uniform, the fitted design accentuating her graceful curves.
She pushed a small cart laden with alcohol, drinks, and snacks.
The more Jiang Ciqiu looked at her back, the more familiar she seemed. The moment the woman paused, a sudden suspicion flashed through her mind.
The white moonlight?
Had she returned already?!
But no, she wasn’t supposed to come back for another three months.
Jiang Ciqiu quickened her pace and, just as the woman stopped in front of a room and raised her hand to knock, grabbed her wrist.
Startled, the woman’s shoulders tensed reflexively before she turned to look at her.
Only then did Jiang Ciqiu see her face clearly.
Delicate and cool, her eyes flickered with the faintest hint of tears before shifting into stubbornness.
Her slender brows and slightly downturned eyes gave her a pitiful, fragile air, yet also carried an aloof, unyielding aura.
She was the textbook definition of a delicate white-flower heroine from a cliché CEO romance.
Perhaps because of her earlier association with scents, Jiang Ciqiu’s first thought upon seeing her wasn’t, This is the heroine.
Instead, it was: Her scent isn’t as nice as the white moonlight’s.
The delicate yet stubborn heroine spoke: “Hello, is there anything I can help you with?”
Jiang Ciqiu was momentarily stumped. She had acted on impulse, grabbing her without thinking of an explanation.
But for her, this wasn’t a problem at all.
She casually ordered some drinks and told the girl to deliver them to the private room later, then released her grip.
The innocent female lead nodded and memorized the order, then immediately raised her hand to knock on the door.
Jiang Ciqiu vaguely remembered that this seemed to be the female lead’s first job, and in the end, she was fired because someone caused trouble.
Not wanting to disturb her work, Jiang Ciqiu walked a few steps forward but couldn’t resist glancing back.
The door opened, and the man who stepped out was someone she recognized.
Pei Yuan—Jiang Wanhe’s best friend.
He was notorious in their circle as a playboy, spending his days idling around, indulging in nothing but food, drink, and pleasure.
But his usual hunting ground wasn’t the Summer New Club—it was the city’s top bars.
If Pei Yuan was here, then there was a high chance Jiang Wanhe was here too!
At this realization, Jiang Ciqiu’s eyes widened instantly.
The meeting between the male and female leads had happened earlier than expected.
Could this be the butterfly effect?
Just like in those movies, the changes she had made to the plot had inadvertently pushed the leads together.
Though she wasn’t sure exactly how it had happened, Jiang Ciqiu was certain she was somehow responsible.
Last night, she had thought long and hard and realized that while many factors contributed to the Jiang family’s downfall, the main one was the progression of the leads’ relationship.
The deeper Jiang Wanhe’s feelings for the female lead, Yu Zhi, grew, the more he would hate the Jiang family. So, by the time they got together, it would mark the Jiang family’s destruction.
In the original novel, there was no clear-cut villain—the Jiang family was the hidden antagonist.
Bringing down the Jiang family was the leads’ main mission.
So, the simplest way to prevent the family’s ruin was to stop the leads from developing feelings for each other.
But the woman in her line of sight had already pushed the cart into the private room. Jiang Ciqiu had no choice—she couldn’t just barge in and drag her out.
Cursing under her breath, she took a deep breath and turned to keep walking.
It was fine. There was still time. The Jiang family wouldn’t be toppled so easily, especially now that she had awakened to the truth.
But before she could take more than a few steps, the door to the private room ahead suddenly swung open.
A woman in the club’s uniform stumbled out, shoved from behind, and fell to the ground just past the doorway.
Long black hair obscured her face.
The familiar figure made Jiang Ciqiu freeze.
Wait, wasn’t that the innocent female lead? How was she here again? Could she be working two jobs for money?
The next second, the woman on the ground looked up at her as she tried to stand.
“The White Moonlight?” Jiang Ciqiu blurted out in shock.
Her earlier thoughts resurfaced—
The White Moonlight?
She was back already?!
But she wasn’t supposed to return for another three months.
This time, there was no twist.
“Damn it, stupid butterfly effect!”
Before Chu Han could steady herself, a man stormed out of the room and grabbed her by the hair.
The pudgy, red-faced man had already undone half his pants, and several buttons of his shirt hung open.
His meaty hand yanked her hair back, dragging her toward the room as he snarled, “The hell are you playing at, huh? You’re here to sell yourself, aren’t you?”
“Stop acting like some saint! Getting fucked by me is a goddamn privilege! I can give you more money than you’ll ever spend in your life!”
The pain was excruciating—it felt like her scalp was being torn off. With her hair gripped from behind, she couldn’t fight back, helpless as she was dragged back inside.
No problem, there were plenty of liquor bottles placed by the sofa in the private room. If he dared to try anything, she’d knock him out with one.
And then…
Chu Han never expected Jiang Ciqiu to come to her rescue.
But the moment this thought crossed her mind, a familiar fragrance invaded her senses.
At the same time, the grip on her hair loosened.
That haughty, aristocratic voice she had heard not long ago rang out above her head.
“Drop your filthy hands, you fat pig!”
