After Awakening Consciousness, I Was Entangled by the White Moonlight Female Supporting Character - Chapter 9
Being constantly berated wasn’t pleasant, especially for the proud Jiang family heiress, Jiang Ciqiu. She took a few steps forward, standing in front of Chu Han, and placed a hand on her shoulder.
Wearing high heels, she was slightly taller than Chu Han, so she looked down at her with a slight tilt of her head.
“Hey! I was the one who pulled you away from that guy just now. No matter how you look at it, I helped you, right? Is this how you talk to someone who just did you a favor?”
“By the way, why did you suddenly come back to the country?”
Chu Han glanced sideways at her hand and replied indifferently, “Your second question answers your first.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“I came back because I couldn’t stay abroad anymore. And guess why I couldn’t stay abroad?”
Jiang Ciqiu raised her other hand, curling all fingers except her index finger, which pointed at herself. “You mean… because of me?”
“But I didn’t force you to come back. I didn’t do anything—how could I possibly be the reason you returned…”
Her words trailed off as the term “butterfly effect” flashed through her mind.
Besides, her first thought upon seeing Chu Han back in the country had also been “butterfly effect.”
Oh, for heaven’s sake—enough with the “butterfly effect” for one night!
Chu Han observed her expression and smiled faintly. “I think you’ve figured it out.”
With that, she sidestepped, shaking off Jiang Ciqiu’s hand, and walked ahead.
Jiang Ciqiu chased after her, following her through the long, winding corridor.
“Look, you owe me an explanation, don’t you? How can you just start hating me out of nowhere?”
In all her years, Jiang Ciqiu had never met someone who openly disliked her from the very beginning.
First, because of her status, and second, because if she wanted to, no one could bring themselves to dislike her.
So, those who did dislike her only did so because she wanted them to.
There was no particular reason for it—she simply didn’t need their affection.
Jiang Ciqiu had always been a rather unpleasant person, and after asking “why” multiple times, she had completely exhausted her patience.
She stopped in her tracks, frowning. “Hey, are you even listening to me?”
Chu Han paused slightly, tilting her head just enough to glance back with one eye before turning away again and continuing forward without a word.
Jiang Ciqiu was absolutely fuming.
This woman was utterly incomprehensible. So, what if she came back to the country? If she could survive in the U.S., why couldn’t she survive here?
Even if this whole thing was somehow related to her, so what?
Was she really that much of a villain?
What angered her even more was that Chu Han refused to offer even a single word of explanation.
“Ridiculous! If I hadn’t pitied you and thought we could work together, do you really think I’d bother with you? It’s just because I’m too kind-hearted!”
Jiang Ciqiu suddenly lowered her voice. “Hmph, I’m the one who gained self-awareness. Without my help, you’ll just follow the script and end up as cannon fodder!”
For the first time in her life, the Jiang family heiress was so furious her face flushed red. Stomping her foot, she turned sharply in the opposite direction, her stiletto heels clicking sharply against the floor, echoing loudly down the corridor—a clear testament to her foul mood.
Pushing open the private room door, a scene of complete chaos unfolded before her eyes.
Despite being in an utterly foul mood, Jiang Ciqiu actually laughed—though the sound was chilling to anyone who heard it. Those who had been around her long enough knew this was the calm before the storm.
Leaning casually against the doorframe, she made even the simplest movement look effortlessly elegant.
Her red lips parted slightly, her eyes lifting with a sharp edge. “What happened?”
The crowd quickly parted, revealing the culprits responsible for the mess.
Several people—both men and women—but only one of them was injured.
Jiang Ciqiu’s gaze settled on the boy with bruises on his face. He was thin and frail, his suit stained with food residue.
It was ruined—no amount of washing would save it now.
He wore black-framed glasses, his eyes slightly red but stubbornly refusing to shed tears.
Without lingering, Jiang Ciqiu swept her gaze over the others.
All unfamiliar faces.
Her voice was icy. “Who brought them here?”
No one dared to speak.
They all knew too well—getting involved now meant being permanently exiled from the social circle of the Jiang family’s eldest daughter.
Jiang Ciqiu let out a low, humorless chuckle. “What, did they sneak in on their own?”
“…”
“Fine.” Her smile was unreadable, neither angry nor pleased. She straightened and stepped forward. “Who threw the first punch?”
All fingers—except the injured boy’s—pointed at him.
Obviously, that wasn’t the truth.
So, Jiang Ciqiu took her time, strolling forward as she repeated, “I don’t like being lied to. I’ll ask one last time—who started it?”
Slowly, the accusing fingers shifted direction, landing on another boy.
Jiang Ciqiu glanced between the two, irritation flashing in her eyes as she pinched the bridge of her nose. “Are you even adults? I’m not here to parent someone else’s kids.”
Both muttered, “Just turned eighteen…”
“Oh, so my gatherings are now open invitations for anyone to tag along, is that it?”
Her sharp gaze swept the room. No one dared meet her eyes, their heads either tilted up or down, frozen in place.
“What does your family do?” she asked the one who’d been hit.
The boy answered woodenly, “Auto parts manufacturing…”
Nodding, Jiang Ciqiu picked up her bag from the couch and slung it over her shoulder.
“New to this circle?”
He nodded, then realized she wasn’t looking and wouldn’t see it, so he hastily stammered, “Y-yes.”
Truthfully, his family was nouveau riche—his father had struck gold by sheer luck at the right moment.
Which was why the others looked down on him.
“Then you’ll stick with me from now on. Got a driver’s license?”
He was so shocked his voice trembled. “Y-yes.”
Jiang Ciqiu smirked. “Why the stutter? Name?”
“Qi Jiu.”
A set of car keys sailed through the air in a perfect arc, landing in his arms.
“Drive me home. I’ll talk to my father about your family’s factory when I have time.”
At the door, she turned back, her displeasure evident as she scanned the room. “If future gatherings are like this, don’t bother inviting me.”
“Pathetic.”
Not a single person in the room dared to speak until long after their figures had disappeared down the hallway. Only then did someone explode in rage, cursing the boy who’d started the fight.
“Goddammit! Didn’t I tell you not to cause trouble here?! What the hell’s wrong with you?!”
Someone asked, “Is Miss Jiang backing that guy up?”
“Who knows? She’s so unpredictable, hardly anyone can figure her out. That’s why she doesn’t have a single friend to this day. If it weren’t for my family, who the hell would want to serve this spoiled young lady and put up with her moods?”
