Chapter 25: President Fu, Do You Really Regret It?
The purple lighting was dazzling.
Shen Ran held the glass between her fingers, feeling the chill of the liquor. She gently swirled it, and the ice clinked against the glass, producing a crisp, pleasant sound.
“Shen Ran… are you serious about all this?”
“President Fu… does she really regret it?”
A few people sat at the bar, watching the uniformed bartender skillfully mixing drinks.
“Of course it’s true. Why would I lie to you… Besides, Qingyun’s been acting really strange lately. Otherwise, would I be out here asking you all?”
With her other hand, she tapped her cheek with a finger, sighing heavily, looking troubled.
“I didn’t think much of it at first. I thought Qingyun just wanted that girl’s body, but now… it turns out she really likes her.”
Although Shen Ran referred to Qiao Sijin as a “young girl,” that was because the first time she saw her, Qiao looked like a high schooler — it gave Shen Ran quite the scare.
Thankfully, her older sister stayed calm and gave her a slap on the back of the head, saying Qiao Sijin was just a college student with a part-time acting gig.
“We’ve only met a few times, not very familiar really… Honestly, I don’t even know what Qingyun sees in her.”
Maybe it’s just that “you always want what you can’t have.”
The adult world is so hard to understand.
“You don’t get it. Qiao Sijin’s not the same as before — she’s a top actress now. Who knows, maybe she’ll be a producer someday.”
“Maybe it’s just habit?”
“People are like that. Spend enough time together, and it turns into a habit.”
The group chimed in, one after another, speculating wildly about President Fu’s love life.
“I know all that, but the main thing now is… Qiao Sijin isn’t replying to Qingyun at all. And I’m caught in the crossfire.”
After graduating, Shen Ran was assigned by her mom to intern at Nanshan Group, thinking that with Fu Qingyun there, her daughter would have an easier ride and grow stronger under her wing.
In reality, Shen Ran strongly objected — all of which was promptly dismissed by her mother.
She even got scolded for being irresponsible and lazy.
Was that really the point?
Absolutely not!
Shen Ran would rather go back to her family company than suffer under the iron grip of Fu Qingyun. Heaven, why are you so cruel to me?
Does anyone know how exhausting it is working under Fu Qingyun?
She’s a ruthless, heartless capitalist!
“I think she’s just like a menopausal woman going through heartbreak — refusing to admit she likes Qiao Sijin. So awkward.”
Downing the last of her drink, Shen Ran felt her frustrations ease a little, as if a weight had been lifted. She pushed the glass back toward the bar.
But the bartender’s look was… strange, as if he’d heard something he wasn’t supposed to.
Shen Ran was confused. Did she not tip enough?
Fine. Since she was a beauty, she figured she’d throw in a little extra. But before she could act, a cold, emotionless female voice spoke from behind her:
“You said who’s acting like a menopausal woman after a breakup and refusing to admit it…?”
Oh sh1t. That voice — wasn’t that Fu Qingyun?
Shen Ran felt sweat instantly break out on her back. She swallowed hard and turned around slowly.
There was that familiar, refined face, staring right at her. Fu Qingyun was still in her business suit — clearly just off work.
“Ahem… I didn’t say anything. Really, I didn’t say a word.”
Shen Ran waved her hands desperately. If she admitted it, her legs might not make it out of the bar intact. Who knew what this terrifying woman might do?
Especially considering she’d just been ghosted by her ex-lover. The thought alone was terrifying!
“Yeah, yeah! We didn’t talk about anything!”
“President Fu, please sit! Want something to drink?”
“It’s on us, it’s on us!”
This bunch of rich second-generation brats had grown up with Shen Ran, and to them, Fu Qingyun was practically a mythical figure.
She had always been the golden child — no bad habits, took over the family business early, and made Nanshan Group thrive.
Compared to them, who only knew how to eat, drink, and party, Fu Qingyun’s only “fun” fact was that she liked women — a hot topic among them.
“No need. I’m here to get you.”
She walked straight over to Shen Ran.
“Your sister told me to bring you home.”
What kind of logic was this? Couldn’t Shen Dai come herself? Why did she have to send her terrifying bestie to fetch her instead?
“Got it. I’m coming.”
Shen Ran forced a smile that looked more like she was about to cry, swallowing hard as she waved goodbye to her companions.
If Shen Dai had come, they would’ve mocked her for still being a spoiled little sister.
“You came here for drinks?”
“Let me settle the bill.”
Fu Qingyun knew her sudden appearance had ruined the group’s fun, so she pulled out her bank card to pay for everything.
“No need — I’m the one treating. No need to trouble you.”
“But what does my sister want me for?”
Shen Ran walked alongside Fu Qingyun out of the bar. They were about the same height, though Shen Ran had heels on today.
That said, Fu Qingyun’s height alone was enough to spark envy.
“She wants you to go over the company files with her. She says she can’t handle it alone.”
Shen Ran nearly spat out her drink. What kind of nonsense was that?
Her sister clearly couldn’t stand to see her idle! Turns out all sisterly love was fake — even between bl00d relatives!
Shen Ran silently voiced her strong protest.
She crossed her arms and took a few steps before realizing she was a little drunk.
But alcohol gives cowards courage — now she could finally say what was really on her mind.
“My sister’s stuff can wait.”
“I’m more curious… Qingyun — have you figured out that thing yet?”
The subject was obvious.
“If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
Fu Qingyun knew exactly what she meant but still chose to play dumb. She didn’t want to face the answer, because she didn’t even know it herself.
“Stop pretending. I know what’s on your mind. Sure, I might not understand you 100%, but we’ve grown up together.”
“You don’t have to tell me, but just know this — I’m way gentler than my sister.”
