Chapter 34: Divorced Women Are the Most Beautiful
“Divorce is a good thing. Divorced women are the most beautiful.”
“Right, Sijin?”
“Bye-bye means bye-bye, the next one will be more obedient.”
Qiu Zhirou steered the topic back, deciding it was best not to reveal too much of her preferences in front of someone as sharp as Xu You. That woman had a memory like a steel trap—she might just quietly hold onto it and use it to get back at her later.
After all, the three of them had shared everything for years; they knew all too well what kind of people they each were.
“Me? Divorced?”
Qiao Sijin pointed at herself in disbelief.
“Come on, when have I ever been married? All I did was end a relationship—it wasn’t even formal!”
Just then, a mellow aroma of wine wafted into her nose. Qiao Sijin, still somewhat indignant, added:
“And besides, that last night—Fu Qingyun cried and begged me not to leave. I didn’t even agree to stay!”
That part was true, though Qiao Sijin had added a few extra details to make herself look better and add some flair to the story.
“Seriously?”
“I don’t know if I believe that… Sijin, are you sure you didn’t exaggerate?”
Okay, Xu You admitted—she just couldn’t picture Fu Qingyun crying. That woman seemed too cold and heartless to shed even a single tear.
“Whatever. My problem now is that I’m being haunted like a ghost I can’t shake.”
“Do you think Fu Qingyun took the wrong meds or something?”
She used to ignore her completely, and now that Qiao Sijin was finally ending things, Fu Qingyun suddenly wouldn’t let go. This felt like boiling a frog in warm water—a trap she had to watch out for, or she’d end up stewing in the pot.
“What meds? Rich people are all the same—don’t cherish what’s right in front of them, then panic once it’s gone.”
“Total drama queens.”
“I’m telling you, Sijin, be careful. If I so much as show my face, I could get vaporized—and my whole studio with me.”
“Then we’d all be out there eating air and dust.”
Xu You was too used to the good life now to tolerate instability. But Fu Qingyun’s status was what it was—it was impossible to ignore her completely.
“You’re going harder than I am—but I support it.”
“My biggest concern now is how to completely and utterly ditch Fu Qingyun.”
Maybe it sounded heartless, but Qiao Sijin felt she’d already been more than fair. Even if she went back to Fu Qingyun, what good would it do? Just another cycle of the same mistakes from her past life.
“Using love to change someone” was the kind of fairytale only elementary school kids believed in.
“Good. I love that energy. Independent, badass—Sijin, I support you. But I have one question.”
“Have you really, really really really let Fu Qingyun go?”
That long, dramatic string of reallys felt like an attack on Qiao Sijin’s dignity and decades of friendship. Okay, she admitted it—she had done some dumb things back then that even she regretted.
Like that time she got drunk and hugged the table leg, crying like it was Fu Qingyun’s leg—utterly pitiful.
And Xu You? The ultimate single rich queen who lived for profit and refused to touch feelings with a ten-foot pole? No wonder she was skeptical.
“I have let her go, I swear to you both. If I ever go soft on her again, may I be struck by lig—”
Before she could finish, Qiu Zhirou lunged over and clamped a hand over her mouth.
“Shhh, Sijin! Don’t go swearing oaths like that.”
“If the heavens actually hear you and drop a lightning bolt, we’ll all regret it.”
Qiao Sijin’s lips were completely covered. She choked back the rest of her oath. What was the point of making a vow if you couldn’t finish it?
“I object to your attitude.”
“Are you cursing me? If I said it, I meant it. I, Qiao Sijin, never go back on my word.”
Finally catching her breath after Zhirou let go, Sijin adjusted her tousled hair and spoke with righteous flair.
“Then you’d better stick to it.”
“Back in college, you cried a river. And don’t even get me started on the time you changed dorms—ugh, forget it, you wouldn’t want to hear it anyway.”
Xu You put her phone down on the table and smoothly changed the subject.
“I know what you’re thinking, though. Since she’s here, just go with the flow. Let’s not make a move yet and see what President Fu is planning.”
“If she doesn’t come bother you…”
“Then just pretend you didn’t see anything.”
It was basically a whole pile of nonsense, but it actually made sense. Why was she already losing her mind when Fu Qingyun hadn’t even made a move yet?
She really wasn’t worth that kind of chaos.
“Even if it’s nonsense, you’ve got a point.”
“Thanks—you guys really are the best.”
Qiao Sijin took another sip of red wine. She usually didn’t let herself indulge like this. That whole “drink away your sorrows” thing? It was just an excuse—a way to escape reality.
She hated it.
Why? Because in her past life, she had literally drunk herself to death.
Honestly, how embarrassing.
“Now you know, right? Romantic partners can come and go, but real friends? They’re hard to find.”
…
Because the crew needed time to scout new locations and the production team had to prep the sets, Qiao Sijin was granted a few extra days off. Naturally, Li Ke also got a break.
But being a 24/7 employee with the company in her heart, Li Ke decided to report back to their real boss, Tao Yi, about Qiao Sijin’s recent state.
Due to the whole situation with Fu Qingyun, Tao Yi had specifically instructed Li Ke to keep a close eye on Sijin and report any signs of emotional instability.
Dragging Sijin to a therapist was out of the question—she wouldn’t agree, and the media would turn it into something wild.
They could make up anything.
So instead, they compiled subtle reports and had the therapist review them behind the scenes. Tao Yi would go through them first for vetting.
Knowing someone’s face wasn’t the same as knowing their heart. The patient’s identity couldn’t be revealed—even to the doctor—so the treatment was troublesome but safe.
Since the car Sijin normally used was still at the company, Li Ke just took her usual personal vehicle, holding the files, and hopped out.
She was headed straight to see Tao Yi.
