Chapter 39: The Onlooker Sees Clearly, While the One Involved Is Confused
What was that supposed to mean?
As if she were the one being mistreated. Qiao Sijin felt a heavy pressure of frustration building up inside—Fu Qingyun was seriously going to drive her crazy.
“That’s right, I don’t like it anymore. So what?”
“I don’t like anything you’ve touched!”
Such an absolute statement.
Li Ke, who had just managed to tidy up the flattened bushes crushed under her boss, cautiously chimed in.
“Boss, don’t say that. Didn’t you just touch President Fu’s lips earlier?”
“Don’t put yourself down like that.”
Qiao Sijin opened her mouth but couldn’t think of what to say—she was utterly defeated. Just whose side was Li Ke on today? Why was she the one getting undermined?
“I understand.”
“I’ll get it fixed and return it to you.”
Fu Qingyun didn’t want things between them to end so coldly. She had a feeling there were still unsaid things between her and Qiao Sijin, but at the moment, she couldn’t figure out how to begin.
So, she put the broken necklace into her pocket.
Qiao Sijin watched her fingertips leave her pocket, and sighed helplessly. She really didn’t know what else there was to say between them.
“Such childish tricks, Fu Qingyun—has no one ever told you before?”
“Can’t you be a little more mature? I’ve grown up now. This kind of sweet talk you use to fool children—do you think I can’t see through it?”
She had been fooled too many times during the endless nights of waiting. She was no longer the same person as before.
No matter what, she wasn’t going to be deceived by someone like Fu Qingyun again.
“When have I ever lied to you?”
Fu Qingyun kept her composure and looked up, her pupils reflecting Qiao Sijin’s figure.
Okay fine—she admitted, arguing was not her strength.
Every time it came down to moments like this, she’d be the first to fold. Not only did she lose in momentum, but she also couldn’t win with logic.
So weak. Truly.
“When haven’t you lied to me? From the very first time I waited for you in vain—Fu Qingyun, I don’t need you to give anything back to me.”
“I said I don’t want it anymore!”
…
Meanwhile, the atmosphere inside the car was even livelier than outside. Xu You shook her head as she watched.
“Damn, don’t give it back to her!”
“Xiao Jin, that woman’s a complete trainwreck!”
Qiu Zhirou quickly covered her ears—and also Xu You’s mouth.
“Let her vent. Our Xiao Jin is finally singing her own tune now. Letting out some anger isn’t a bad thing.”
Her palm silenced Xu You’s outbursts. Only then did Qiu Zhirou breathe a sigh of relief.
“But wasn’t the official handover still a few days away? Why is President Fu already downstairs at the company? That definitely smells fishy.”
Xu You blinked and gently tapped Qiu Zhirou’s hand, giving her a thumbs-up.
Totally on point.
“She’s doing it on purpose.”
“I bet these two aren’t done yet. We should just sit back and watch.”
Her earlier anger came from how hard Qiao Sijin had insisted on cutting ties—clearly, she hadn’t moved on from Fu Qingyun at all.
And look at Fu Qingyun—obviously holding something back, swallowing her words. Now that was the true sign of a victor in this kind of emotional standoff.
“Ladies, Miss Qiao hasn’t returned yet?”
At that moment, the driver came back from the restroom. He worked for the company and was familiar with the area. Since he was responsible for Qiao Sijin’s travel, it was odd she hadn’t returned yet.
His question snapped them out of their gossip.
Xu You offered an awkward smile and nodded. “Not yet. You know how picky Xiao Jin is—probably taking her time.”
About ten minutes later, Qiao Sijin finally returned to the car, clearly worn down from the wind and cold.
Her face and body were filled with exhaustion.
She carried her handbag in hand.
Finally, she was back.
She placed her bag in the back seat and glanced at the two girls beside her, noticing something odd in their expressions. They looked a bit too… weird.
“What are those looks?”
“Do I have flowers on my face?”
Could it be she had scratched her face when she fell into the bushes? Qiao Sijin reached up to touch it, but didn’t feel any obvious wounds.
“Nothing at all… what are you two freaking out about?”
Xu You grinned, pointing to her own lips. She didn’t say anything, but her expression already gave it away.
“Quite the romantic encounter just now, huh?”
Alright, Qiao Sijin admitted—she had totally forgotten these two were still in the car.
But whatever, let them see. It’s not like they were strangers. She wasn’t that thin-skinned.
“Well? I think I’ve improved, haven’t I?”
“Didn’t you say that to reel someone in, you have to make the first move?”
Qiao Sijin was now fully convinced this theory had merit. Based on Fu Qingyun’s reaction just now—it had aligned quite well with her “shady” expectations.
“A good executor indeed.”
“But still lacking a bit of punch. You should’ve yanked that necklace out of Fu Qingyun’s hand and tossed it right onto the road.”
“Now that would’ve been savage.”
Qiu Zhirou looked confused and raised her hand to ask a question: “Wait, wouldn’t that backfire?”
Xu You sighed, shook her head, and flicked Qiu Zhirou’s forehead.
“You just don’t get it. If you’re not ruthless, how are you supposed to trap the enemy in your hand and play them like a toy?”
She really sounded like a love expert.
Qiu Zhirou swallowed her rebuttal.
“Come on, Youzi—you’ve never even dated, yet you talk like a total pro. Only someone like Xiao Jin, who’s still naïve to how dark people can be, would believe you.”
Xu You raised an eyebrow. “That’s where you’re wrong. This is called: the one involved is confused, while the onlooker sees clearly.”
“Am I right?”
She turned to Qiao Sijin beside her.
Compared to Qiu Zhirou’s skepticism, Qiao Sijin actually found Xu You’s words made a lot of sense. Judging by her actions earlier, despite all the real emotion involved, she suspected her moves actually worked on Fu Qingyun.
“Personal experience says: it works.”
“Only… there’s one risk I need to avoid, and that is… I still can’t quite let go.”
Letting go—what did that mean? It was simple.
“You’re being that honest? I thought you’d at least try to act tough for a bit.”
“Not bad, kid. You’re learning well. You’re learning well.”
