Chapter 43: President Fu, Please Promise Me Not to Get Angry First
After a few minutes, Tao Yi received a message on her phone—there was going to be an emergency meeting for upper management to discuss some handover matters.
She had already expected this.
President Fu had come to her office yesterday and mentioned issues regarding the company.
“Please, please, just make sure President Fu doesn’t see what’s on the phone,” one of the people in the office whispered in prayer.
Even though the company had other artists, everyone knew the real reason Xuanyu Culture had been acquired by the Nanshan Group. Those in the industry weren’t clueless.
“What’s the big deal? Isn’t this just a regular business collab? Why would President Fu get mad over that?”
“I think you all have too much free time. Get back to your desks. If we don’t finish today, we’re working overtime.”
The team leader with a work badge glanced out the window, then shifted her gaze back. The whole office was buzzing with excitement, and someone had to step in to calm things down.
“President Fu taking over might not be a bad thing.”
After all, before this, their company barely counted as a mid-sized business. Now with Nanshan Group’s investment, they no longer had to tiptoe around the industry giants.
Inside the private elevator, Fu Qingyun was still thinking about yesterday. The necklace had already been sent for repair. The artisan said it would take at least half a month to restore it perfectly, with no flaws left.
“President Fu.”
Assistant Zhou, standing beside Fu Qingyun, gave a couple of discreet coughs. The elevator only had the two of them. Fu Qingyun glanced over.
“If you’ve got something to say, just say it. There’s no one else here.”
Well then—since the president herself had given the go-ahead, Assistant Zhou had no choice but to speak.
“President Fu, the preview photos from Miss Qiao’s shoot this morning are out. Would you like to review them now?”
Clutching her phone screen like it was a precious artifact, Zhou clearly didn’t want Fu Qingyun to see the photos too soon and risk getting shocked.
“You asking me like this must mean something happened, right?”
Fu Qingyun knew Assistant Zhou too well. Her brows furrowed slightly, and the sight made Assistant Zhou’s heart tremble.
She seriously suspected that ever since Miss Qiao supposedly broke things off, President Fu had decided to throw herself into self-improvement. She’d completely leveled up her style and presence.
Now, President Fu didn’t look like a corporate powerhouse—she looked like a glamorous celebrity.
Turns out, even in love, you have to compete.
Respect. Pure respect.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Just tell me what’s going on. I’m not going to lose my temper with you first thing in the morning.”
Fu Qingyun took a step closer. Assistant Zhou snapped back to attention and quickly hid her phone behind her back, forcing a dry laugh.
“Of course, of course. I know you’re always kind, wise, calm, and rational, President Fu. But this situation… it’s not as simple as you think.”
After that long preamble, Fu Qingyun had no patience for more nonsense.
“Forget it then. I’ll look it up myself.”
She had her own phone, after all. She could just search Qiao Sijin’s fan forums to see what was going on. What, did they think she was some kind of caveman who didn’t know how to use social media?
Seeing that President Fu was clearly planning to look it up herself, Assistant Zhou caved instantly. She knew exactly who paid her salary and made her lifestyle possible.
Besides, even if her boss got angry, it wouldn’t be directed at her. It would be Miss Qiao who bore the brunt of it.
Thinking this, she felt a bit more at ease and handed over her phone.
“President Fu, just promise me—please don’t get mad.”
The screen lit up.
The calm, cool expression on Fu Qingyun’s face cracked slightly. Her gaze lowered to take in the photo on the screen.
In the image, Qiao Sijin was smiling sweetly. Beside her stood Gu Xin, dressed in black and exuding confidence. The two looked quite compatible at a glance.
Fu Qingyun pressed her finger to the screen. Her pale fingertip stood out against the glass. She took a long breath and turned the screen off.
“President Fu… are you mad?”
Assistant Zhou hurried to retrieve her phone, fearing any sudden damage would mean saying goodbye to it forever.
“Why would I be angry? Since we’re no longer involved, I don’t need to care about this anymore.”
President Fu, are you sure you mean that?
Assistant Zhou wisely kept her mouth shut. She didn’t believe it for a second. But with all the shareholders from Xuanyu Culture attending today’s meeting, even if Fu Qingyun was fuming inside, she’d have no place to vent it for now.
She’d just have to tread carefully.
“Of course I mean it.”
Yeah, right…
…
Back on set, Qiao Sijin was in high spirits. She had completely put last night behind her—no lingering thoughts whatsoever.
She and Gu Xin walked side by side along the path toward the filming location. Crew members bustled around them, carrying various props and equipment.
“Sijin, weren’t you curious about my scenes today?”
“Wanna come take a look?”
Wearing a black jacket with hands in her pockets, Gu Xin’s eyes sparkled with sincerity. Her bright smile made it clear that she truly wanted to invite Qiao Sijin.
Since things were over between Qiao and Fu Qingyun, why couldn’t she start something new with Gu Xin?
Gu Xin was certain—absolutely certain—that she could treat Qiao Sijin a hundred times better than Fu Qingyun ever did. She’d never make her sad or cause her pain.
But faced with Gu Xin’s sunny smile, Qiao Sijin hesitated.
She knew, if she didn’t like someone, it wasn’t right to keep them hanging.
At this moment, Gu Xin really reminded her of her past self. Even the way she looked at her—so full of longing—was exactly the same.
A breeze blew between them, leaves rustling overhead. The sunlight danced on a few yellow-green leaves as they fluttered down between the two.
Her long hair was lifted by the wind.
“I’m sorry, I have to go over my script later. I probably can’t make it.”
“You go ahead without me.”
She declined gently but firmly.
Gu Xin lowered her head and smiled, hiding her disappointment behind that expression. Lips pressed together, she acted as if nothing had happened.
She quickly gathered herself and turned to Qiao Sijin again.
“Got it. I’ll head over first. See you later after makeup.”
It didn’t matter if she was rejected now.
There would be plenty more chances to get closer. As long as their relationship could move forward—even just a little—that was enough for now.
Why is this girl so stubborn?
Watching Gu Xin’s retreating figure, Qiao Sijin didn’t know what to say. She could only sigh softly.
