Chapter 9: Double the Contract – Begging Miss Qiao to Come Back
As soon as the bag was opened, it was filled with neatly arranged daily necessities — even mosquito coils and floral water were included.
“They really went all out…”
Li Ke muttered to herself as she carefully examined each item. Everything seemed normal — just the kind of essentials needed for their days with the crew.
But as she kept looking, Li Ke’s relaxed expression gradually turned serious. She picked up a bottle of body wash — a brand that wasn’t cheap at all.
If this truly came from the production team, they wouldn’t have spent this much on premium products.
What’s more, this specific brand was one Qiao Sijin frequently used. The sender clearly knew her preferences inside and out. A name began to surface in Li Ke’s mind.
Her throat tightened as she swallowed hard.
She knew exactly who that person was, but didn’t dare say it out loud. Saying it aloud felt like summoning a deadly fate.
Better not.
“When did the production crew get so generous?”
Qiao Sijin squatted down and was about to pick up the bottle of body wash from Li Ke’s hand when Li Ke quickly stopped her. She cleared her throat with a cough and hid the bottle behind her back.
“Oh, they probably pulled in a big investor recently.”
“Don’t worry, Sijin-jie. It’s just some basic necessities — it didn’t cost much.”
Li Ke hurriedly shoved everything back into the plastic bag, tied it tightly, then tucked it into the corner under the table.
“We’ll open it later when we actually need it.”
“Otherwise, it just takes up space — but it’s still a kind gesture from that assistant girl.”
Qiao Sijin looked at Li Ke’s oddly nervous expression and was just about to ask more when her alarm rang again — her scheduled time to leave for set.
She couldn’t afford to be late. If she didn’t head out now, she’d definitely miss call time.
“Time’s up. I’m heading out.”
She slid off the alarm and got ready to leave. Dressed casually, she still needed to change into her costume once on set.
“I’ll go with you—”
Li Ke had just started moving but was immediately pushed back by Qiao Sijin.
“Finish your breakfast first. You’ll need energy to work.”
“…Okay.”
Li Ke felt relief wash over her. More than finishing her breakfast, she was grateful that Qiao Sijin hadn’t become suspicious.
The top priority now was to prevent Qiao Sijin from discovering who was behind all this. Otherwise, the boss would never be able to focus on acting.
…
“How did it go? Mission accomplished?”
A staff member in production gear walked over, wearing black sunglasses and a STAFF vest.
“It’s done. Everything President Fu instructed has been delivered to Miss Qiao.”
He still couldn’t figure out what Fu Qingyun was thinking. Wasn’t she supposed to have nothing to do with Miss Qiao anymore? Then why sneak people into the set at night?
It was exhausting work. If it wasn’t for double pay, no one would agree to do this!
The place wasn’t completely remote, but it was only marginally better than the wilderness — just a cluster of farm inns in the mountains.
“Shh, don’t let anyone hear that.”
“No one can know we’re Fu Qingyun’s lackeys.”
The man anxiously glanced around, pressing a finger to his lips and grabbing the girl’s arm.
“What are you so scared of? No one’s around.”
Well, she had a point — but caution never hurt.
“I’ve got to keep a close eye on the set. No room for mistakes.”
The man lowered his cap and returned to the filming location.
He took out his phone and messaged Assistant Zhou:
Mission accomplished. Items delivered to Miss Qiao.
When Assistant Zhou saw the message, she finally breathed a long sigh of relief.
“What are you looking at?”
Fu Qingyun had noticed Assistant Zhou spacing out. Still dazed from last night’s hangover, Fu had canceled her meetings for the day and was focused only on reviewing contracts that afternoon.
“President Fu… about the task you gave me last night — I completed it.”
Even though it was a drunken, half-conscious phone call, Assistant Zhou had executed the task with full professionalism.
That’s what dedication looks like!
If the boss didn’t give her a raise soon, it would be unjust.
Fu Qingyun smiled faintly, clearly confused.
“What task? I was at the banquet last night, wasn’t I?”
“Didn’t I give you the night off after work?”
Classic Fu Qingyun — always forgetting things. She didn’t remember a thing.
“You gave me the night off, yes. But work never really stops.”
“Last night, you told me not to forget to take care of Miss Qiao’s daily needs while she’s on set.”
That stunned Fu Qingyun. Her face froze for a second or two as if her mind had short-circuited.
Only then did she start to recall being drunkenly slumped against the car window, half-awake, fumbling for her phone.
She’d somehow dialed Assistant Zhou’s number in that hazy state.
“What exactly did I say last night?”
Fu Qingyun took off her glasses, placed them on the document in front of her, and looked up at Assistant Zhou.
“Well… President Fu, are you sure you want me to repeat it?”
It would be terribly awkward…
“Yes. I’m not embarrassed — why are you embarrassed? It’s just the two of us here.”
“…Alright then.”
Assistant Zhou took a deep breath and began repeating every affectionate and emotional word Fu had uttered the night before — word for word.
Not because she had a good memory, but because the cringe had seared itself into her soul. It took all her professional training not to react then and there.
“Oh, right…”
“President Fu, you also tearfully said you’d double Miss Qiao’s contract — begging her to come back.”
At that, Fu Qingyun’s expression went cold.
“That’s enough. Stop.”
“That was drunken nonsense. Don’t take it seriously.”
Her voice turned icy. Fu Qingyun clearly wanted to erase the entire episode from existence. She couldn’t accept how out of control she’d been — all because of a few drinks.
“I understand, President Fu. I’ll never mention it to anyone.”
She was a trained assistant — and when it came to not laughing, she was a true professional.
