- Chapter 12 - Sleeping on Someone's Lap and waking up to see my abs?
After the three of them finished dinner, Bai Zixin collapsed onto the sofa, looking as if the food had pinned her down. Hugging her slightly rounded belly, her face was full of distress.
“I feel like… I can’t move anymore…” Her voice was soft, mewling like a cat.
Ye Yibai chuckled. Sitting beside her, he gently pulled a blanket over her legs, his tone dripping with affection.
“Then just lie down for a while. I’ll clean up.”
Bai Zixin nodded drowsily. Not long after, she leaned against his thigh, her forehead rubbing against his knee, and drifted off to sleep.
Ye Yibai lowered his head to look at her. His eyes glimmered like night stars, tender and quiet. With his fingertip, he brushed aside a strand of hair that had fallen onto her cheek and murmured with a low laugh:
“How is it you always end up… lying right here in my heart?”
He didn’t rush to get up. Instead, he simply let her rest against him, staying still as though guarding his most precious treasure.
At that moment, the sound of running water echoed from the bathroom.
Gao Muting had just returned from military duty. After a hot shower, his damp hair hung in loose strands, water still dripping from the ends. He wore only a dark gray robe, loosely tied at the waist, revealing his chest and the sharp cut of his abs. His skin gleamed faintly with the moist sheen of a fresh bath.
He was towel-drying his hair as he stepped out of the bathroom. But the moment he pushed open the living room door, he froze.
On the sofa, that familiar “little cat” was curled up in another man’s lap, fast asleep, smiling sweetly as if even her dreams tasted of sugar.
Gao Muting’s eyes darkened. His brow lifted, his voice cold but tinged with suppressed heat.
“…She seems very comfortable?”
Ye Yibai slowly stroked her hair, his tone unhurried. “She asked if eating too much would make her fat. I told her, ‘No. You’ll look beautiful no matter what.’ Then she laughed and collapsed right here.”
Gao Muting: “…” Does he even still have a place in this house?
He stepped closer, about to speak—when a small sound broke the silence.
Bai Zixin stirred at the sound of his footsteps. Her lashes fluttered, and before her vision even focused, the sight before her made her pupils shrink.
Fresh from his shower, Gao Muting stood before her—wet hair, damp skin, water sliding down his collarbone to his chest, over firm muscle lines, disappearing into the robe at his waist.
Her eyes widened, suddenly clear, as if struck by lightning.
“…Wow! Are those abs… my husband’s?!”
The words slipped out before she could stop them. She clapped a hand over her mouth at once, but her gaze still lingered shamelessly on him.
Muttering to herself, she reached out with guilty fingers.
Poke.
Her fingertip pressed into the hard muscle of his abdomen, firm and springy. It even bounced back slightly.
“…It’s real… it even reacts…” Her eyes shone with curiosity, like she had just discovered a hidden treasure.
Gao Muting lowered his head, the corner of his lips tugging upward despite himself. His voice came low and husky, carrying the magnetic edge of someone fresh from the shower.
“Wife, you like it? Hm?”
Bai Zixin’s face flamed red to her ears. She tried to retreat, but it was already too late. Stammering, she said:
“I—I don’t! I was just… just checking your health! After a hot bath, your muscles tighten, so I… um… was just making a professional observation—mmph!”
Before she could finish, Gao Muting swept his arm around her, scooping her up from Ye Yibai’s lap as easily as picking up a mischievous cat. Carrying her in his arms, he strode straight toward the master bedroom.
“Wait, wait! I haven’t finished digesting yet—you, where are you taking me!”
His tone was steady, but a hidden smile curved his words. “Didn’t you say you couldn’t move? Then I’ll… help you get moving.”
Damn it, after so many days of holding back, if I don’t touch my wife tonight, I’m going to explode.
His steps were unhurried, tall and firm, but every movement was filled with intent. Just before reaching the bedroom, he tossed out one last line:
“Since you’re so lively, tonight you don’t get to sleep halfway.”
On the sofa, Ye Yibai stretched his arms and patted the blanket, his expression calm and amused as he watched them disappear.
“As expected of a soldier—always straight to action.”
He leaned back, eyes glinting with quiet laughter.
“If Gao Muting gets the midnight shift… then I’ll join in too.”
