- Chapter 17 - Marrying into a wife's family requires some attitude? I'm really happy
The early morning sunlight streamed into the restaurant through the floating windows, lighting up the exquisite breakfast on the table: handmade cloud eggs, crystal-clear soup dumplings, earthy soy milk, and golden fried dough sticks.
This was Bai Zixin’s special “Earth Nostalgia Breakfast,” cooked and served personally by her two top-tier husbands.
She sat lazily in the middle, chin propped on one hand, and opened her mouth.
“Ah—”
The next moment, Gao Muting carefully picked up a steaming dumpling with his chopsticks, while Ye Yibai thoughtfully held out a spoon dipped in aged vinegar. Without a word, the two men turned feeding into a silent contest of who treated their wife better.
Bai Zixin happily enjoyed both sides, her smile blooming.
“You two are so unfair. I can’t even tell who’s better!”
Ye Yibai’s smile was gentle. “Then you can keep choosing both.”
Gao Muting’s voice was calm and steady. “As long as you’re happy, I’ll feed you for the rest of my life.”
She was about to reply when the communication terminal on the table suddenly rang.
She glanced at the screen: [Mrs. Bai — Incoming call]
“Oh, it’s my mother!” Zixin quickly picked up.
The image of a graceful lady appeared on the screen, her features refined and elegant, her temperament noble—clearly a woman born into high society. She bore a striking resemblance to Bai Zixin.
“Zixin, did you sleep well last night? Were your two husbands good to you?”
Zixin’s smile was so sweet it seemed dipped in sugar. “Don’t worry, Mom, they love me so much! I don’t even lift a finger now—when I eat, the two of them fight over who gets to feed me~”
At this, Gao Muting allowed a rare smile to touch his lips. He handed over a dish and addressed the screen seriously. “Don’t worry, Madam. We will take good care of Zixin.”
Ye Yibai was not about to be outdone. His voice was as soft as water. “She’s very happy. And we’ll make sure that happiness lasts.”
The lady on the other side chuckled. “Titles and class are secondary. Our child’s happiness matters most. As long as you treat her well, our hearts will be at ease.”
Zixin’s eyes glistened, her voice trembling with emotion. “Dad, Mom… I really am happy…”
But before she could finish, the two men beside her suddenly called out in unison:
“Dad! Mom!”
Her eyes widened. “You—what are you doing?!”
Gao Muting calmly offered her another dumpling, his expression as composed as ever. “Marrying into a family requires the right attitude.”
Ye Yibai added smoothly, “And it’s more polite to greet them early. Besides, if your parents are touched, maybe they won’t make us do the dishes every day.”
At that moment, the Bai family’s master spoke, his voice carrying a faint smile. “Our Zixin has found her home. Of course, we’re glad. But if either of you dare let her suffer any grievance—”
“Dad, I won’t let that happen,” Zixin interrupted quickly, her smile bright as the curve of her eyes. “I’ll make them listen to me and be good.”
“You little rascal, always coaxing your way through,” her father scolded with a laugh.
After the call ended, Zixin leaned back in her chair. The men on both sides moved in sync: one handed her a hand towel, the other offered water, and someone even tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
As she sipped, she murmured softly, almost to herself, “I never thought a day like this would come for me… My family used to be so strict, I barely even dared to hope for love. But now… every day I’m spoiled, pampered… I get to live like a little princess.”
If Wen Nuannuan from the past had heard this, she might have laughed. Back then, there were at least twenty or thirty men chasing her. If Gao Muting and Ye Yibai had known, they’d probably have interrogated her already…
Gao Muting rested one hand on the back of her chair, his voice low and steady. “From now on, home belongs to the three of us.”
Ye Yibai gently clasped her hand, his palm warm. “No matter what happens, we’ll stay by your side and protect you.”
Her throat tightened, but she didn’t want to cry. She only wanted to etch this moment into her memory.
So instead, she turned and leaned in, pressing a kiss to each of their cheeks, her voice sweet as sugar.
“I declare that today you both get chicken drumsticks.”
Gao Muting’s eyebrow rose slightly. “Is that an extra kiss, or an extra dish?”
Ye Yibai smiled meaningfully. “I’ll take either.”
“Wow… You two aren’t allowed in my room if you talk like that!” Zixin huffed.
Gao Muting countered, “Then we’ll set up a noodle stall outside your door and see if you can hold back.”
Ye Yibai added cheerfully, “I’ll make fried eggs too. Will you really refuse?”
Zixin clutched her head in mock despair. “You two husbands are so unfair! I surrender!”
—Happiness filled her little by little, in these days of bickering and banter, of feeding and kisses, with her parents smiling in approval.
