- Chapter 4 - "Are we not husband and wife? Two husbands vying for one woman."
Back at the newlywed villa, after her bath, Wen Nuannuan changed into a pink nightgown with lace at the hem. The fabric was soft and light. Thin straps hung over her collarbones. Her wet hair hadn’t fully dried, and it gave off a gentle scent of shampoo and body wash—sweet and milky. As she walked, the hem of her gown swayed, brushing against her calves. She looked like a kitten fresh out of the bath—soft, fragrant, and so cute that one might want to hug her and never let go.
She hugged a cream-colored fuzzy blanket and walked in her plush slippers to the bedroom door. Smiling, she waved to the two men.
“Well… good night.”
As soon as she finished, she reached out to shut the door with a “click.”
But before she could even touch the doorknob, two deep voices came from behind her at the same time:
“Wait.”
“Where are you planning to sleep?”
Wen Nuannuan turned around and blinked in confusion. “Of course… in the bedroom?”
Gao Mutingspoke like it was only natural. “We’re going in too.”
Ye Yibai smiled gently. “Yes. Tonight is the first night after the wedding. Shouldn’t we sleep together?”
Wen Nuannuan: “!!” Damn it, she forgot it was their wedding day. She just thought of it like a date! Wait—what if she doesn’t know what to do?!
Her face turned red so fast it was visible to the naked eye—like a shrimp just cooked.
“W-wait a minute… It’s true we’re married now, but I’m not really used to this kind of… lifestyle…” She nervously scratched her head. Her fingers tugged at the edge of her nightgown. Her small face scrunched into a frown.
“Can you both stay in the guest room for now? Please…”
Gao Muting took a step forward. His tone was cold and firm, leaving no room for negotiation. “No.”
Ye Yibai also added with a soft voice, but just as unyielding: “Definitely not.”
Wen Nuannuan: “Y-you two are really insisting?!”
Both of them nodded at the same time. For once, they were united—one stood to her left, one to her right, forming a pincer movement. The pressure of their handsome faces drawing closer made her heart skip a beat.
The corner of her mouth twitched. Her brain spun quickly.
—If she refused in this situation, would they think she hated them?
—But if they slept together… she’d be too nervous to fall asleep!
She sighed, braced herself, and stepped back to open the door.
“…Fine. Come in.” she said helplessly. “Good thing the bed is big. Otherwise, one of us might really end up on the floor tonight.”
Gao Muting immediately stepped into the room, took off his military jacket, and hung it on the nearby coat rack. His sharp, muscular frame was exposed. Even though he was only wearing a black inner shirt, his presence still carried the atmosphere of a battlefield. The temperature in the room seemed to drop instantly.
Ye Yibai smiled as he took off his outer robe. Underneath was a soft white shirt, loosely tucked, with the sleeves rolled up. His warm, gentle air was like a cup of hot milk. Even his footsteps brought comfort.
Wen Nuannuan quietly climbed onto the bed, curling up in a small space in the middle. She wrapped herself in the blanket like a tiny hamster, only her two wide, shiny eyes peeking out, sneaking glances from under the covers.
“Are you really going to sleep next to me…?” Her voice was as soft as a mosquito.
Both men answered almost at the same time: “Mm.”
Why didn’t they say no?
Wen Nuannuan … or rather, Wen Nuannuan, whimpered.
One lay on the left, the other on the right.
The light turned off. Silence filled the room.
A few seconds later, Wen Nuannuan mumbled, “…Actually, I don’t totally mind…”
Ye Yibai: “Hm?”
She buried her face in the blanket and whispered, “You two are warm… kind of like hot water bottles.”
Gao Muting: “…” That’s a weird reason.
Ye Yibai couldn’t help but chuckle. His voice leaned closer to her ear and murmured, “Don’t worry. We won’t do anything to you—unless you make the first move.”
Wen Nuannuan: “No way I would!”
Probably…
Honestly, both of these men were too attractive. On Earth, either of them could instantly become a celebrity.
She immediately pulled the blanket over her head, even covering her ears, which were now red like they’d been burned.
Then she turned over, originally intending to face Ye Yibai. But she didn’t realize she had naturally wrapped herself around him—her cheek rubbing right against his chest. The blanket trapped her arm, making it even harder to pull away.
“Ugh… I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to…”
Ye Yibai laughed softly and gently wrapped an arm around her. His voice was so tender it could melt someone’s heart. “I know. Just hold me and sleep, okay, Xinxin?”
Gao Muting’s face instantly turned icy. He stared gloomily at the scene of them cuddling sweetly, bodies pressed close.
His cold voice cut in: “So you’re choosing him tonight?”
Wen Nuannuan: “Huh?”
Gao Muting’s voice was low, like he was grinding his teeth: “Then why aren’t you turning around to hug me?”
Wen Nuannuan was completely frozen: “I… I didn’t mean to… I just turned over and…”
Ye Yibai kept smiling gently, but his voice sounded very innocent: “She came over on her own. I didn’t force her, right?”
Gao Muting sneered: “Fake.”
Ye Yibai: “Violent maniac.”
The tension suddenly rose.
Wen Nuannuan curled into a small ball under the blanket. Seeing the sparks fly between the two, she quickly acted.
“Wait wait wait—stop fighting!” She sat up, covering both of their mouths with her hands, groaning, “This is too much pressure… I said I just want to sleep tonight… waaah…”
Her eyes turned red with frustration. She pulled the blanket up to her nose, looking like a poor little hamster rudely woken up.
Gao Muting saw the redness at the corners of her eyes. His breath hitched. He sighed in a low voice, “…Fine, I won’t argue anymore.”
Ye Yibai also looked apologetic, speaking softly: “Okay, we won’t fight. Go to sleep.”
Only then did Wen Nuannuan curl back under the blanket with satisfaction: “Good night~ my little hot water bottles.”
The light turned off again.
That night, the three of them lay side by side, none of them saying a word.
But Wen Nuannuan secretly held the hand on her left, then touched the sleeve on her right. Before falling asleep, she giggled and whispered:
“Mm… you two are actually kinda cute like this.”
In that moment, the hearts of two incredibly outstanding men—
Both skipped a beat for the same girl.
It was late.
In the bedroom, the only sound left was the soft hum of the temperature controller.
