- Chapter 5 - “She was like juicy meat—irresistible to two hungry dogs.”
Wen Nuannuan started out sleeping properly, curled up in her little corner like a marshmallow. But as the night grew quieter and sleep settled in, she turned over… then turned again.
And then—
With one roll, she ended up in Gao Muting’s arms.
The man was still asleep, but like a trained reflex, his arm wrapped around her. Then he woke up—sharp and efficient, like a soldier. As his arm pulled her in, Wen Nuannuan’s face pressed against his chest, her nose bumping into the button of his sleepwear. She let out a tiny hum.
She mumbled, “So warm… mm… feels like a blanket left in the sun…”
Gao Muting’s breath paused slightly, as if he too felt a familiar softness. His voice was lower and raspier than usual. “…Be good, don’t move. Go to sleep.”
And then—he smiled.
Yes, Gao Muting, usually cold and hard like a weapon, smiled.
Wen Nuannuan was so soft, so nice to hold, that he almost lost control. But this wasn’t a good thing—they had agreed on rules: neither of them was allowed to force Wen Nuannuan into anything.
Damn it, she’s his wife and he can’t even do anything. What kind of torture is this?!
But then—
On the other side of the bed, Ye Yibai turned over, facing their direction. He seemed to sense something. One eye opened in a sleepy daze, and he spoke with a gentle voice—though clearly laced with thorns:
“Xinxin… why did you go over to his side…?”
He mumbled softly, “I was the one who lay beside you first tonight…”
Then, he reached out toward her, searching under the blanket—but caught nothing. Gao Muting had already blocked her off with a layer of covers.
Ye Yibai: “…Hey, let me hold her for a bit, okay?”
Gao Muting replied coldly, still with his eyes shut: “No.”
Ye Yibai sounded calm: “You’re really that selfish…?”
Gao Muting: “She rolled over by herself. Blame me?”
Wen Nuannuan: “…” She was awake now. It was the middle of the night, and the two voices were already painting a mental image of an oncoming war zone. Drowsy, she mumbled, “Stop fighting already… I just want to sleep…”
Ye Yibai responded immediately, like being summoned: “Then come to my side. It’s quieter when I’m holding you.”
Gao Muting snorted coldly. “…Get lost.”
The next second, Ye Yibai actually rolled over in one smooth motion, slipped under the blanket from the other side, and pressed up behind Wen Nuannuan, wrapping an arm around her from the back.
Now Wen Nuannuan was sandwiched in the middle—with Gao Muting’s steady, warm chest in front and Ye Yibai’s soft, gentle embrace at her back. Both men were still in full-on “fighting for the wife” mode, refusing to let go.
“Xinxin is mine.”
“She’s my wife. Get your damn hand off her.”
“Tomorrow morning, I’m making milk tea for Xinxin first—”
“Says who? She likes yogurt and red date flavor.”
“Wrong. She said the one I make smells best.”
“That’s only because she’s never tried mine.”
Wen Nuannuan: “…”
Is this really the first night after the wedding, or a fight between two giant dogs?
She opened her eyes a little inside the blanket, looking at the two handsome faces so close to hers. Her whole face turned as red as a boiled tomato.
—What should she do? She only wanted a simple night’s sleep, but now it felt like she’d fallen into some underground arms deal.
In the end, she could only say to herself quietly:
“Alright… let’s save the dishwashing schedule discussion for tomorrow. Just let me survive the night and sleep till morning.”
She exhaled softly, grabbing one large hand with each of hers—like stamping both sides for fairness.
Then she whispered, “Good night, my big husbands.”
—That night, the stars were quiet, but her heart was loud.
And she had just become the center of these two men’s worlds. She hadn’t even chosen a side, yet she was already wrapped up tightly from both.
The night deepened. The bedroom was dimly lit.
Wen Nuannuan curled under the blanket, sleeping peacefully, the corners of her mouth lifting as if she were dreaming of eating sweet interstellar ice cream.
Her sleeping style, like her personality—never followed the rules.
She was supposed to stay in the middle. But as she slept, she turned again… and again…
And then—rolled straight into Ye Yibai’s arms.
Her pale, soft legs wrapped around his waist. The pink nightgown had slid up so high, it was almost at her waist… Ye Yibai felt like he needed to start reciting mantras. If he could stay calm now, was he even still a man?
Ye Yibai passively held the sweet-smelling, soft little thing in his arms, his body going stiff in an instant.
Her head was resting on his chest; one hand naturally placed at his waist. She slept soundly.
Ye Yibai’s ears turned bright red, but he didn’t dare move, afraid to wake the little kitten in his arms.
He whispered softly, “…How can she be this cute?”
But the next second—
“How long has she been over there?”
A low voice came from the side, tinged with anger barely held back.
Ye Yibai turned his head and saw Gao Muting glaring at him, his tone cold as ice:
“I already compromised by letting you sleep next to her. Now you’re pulling my wife into your arms—don’t you think that’s too much?”
Ye Yibai’s eyes were gentle, but he didn’t back down. He looked at him calmly.
“She rolled over herself. I didn’t pull her.”
Gao Muting replied coldly, “Then why didn’t you put her back?”
Ye Yibai replied confidently, “She’s sleeping so peacefully. How could I bear to wake her?”
Gao Muting’s expression darkened, grinding his teeth:
“You’re really good at pretending to be gentle.”
Ye Yibai shot back, “And you’re really good at being jealous.”
The two men locked eyes, the air between them full of unspoken sparks.
If not for Wen Nuannuan sleeping between them, they probably would have moved from “staring war” to an all-out “pillow fight.”
Gao Muting inched closer toward the middle, trying to “steal” Wen Nuannuan back.
But as if she sensed something, Wen Nuannuan let out a tiny hum—and pulled herself even closer to Ye Yibai.
—A critical hit!
Gao Muting: “…”
This woman was like a juicy piece of meat—making two dogs drool over her.
Ye Yibai curled his lips into a faint smile and whispered on purpose: “See? She wants to sleep with me tonight.”
Gao Muting clenched his jaw: “Then when she wakes up tomorrow, I’ll have her back in my arms. Fair competition.”
Their anger simmered quietly, neither giving way.
Just then—
Wen Nuannuan mumbled in her sleep, turning over: “…More soup… no cilantro…”
The two men: “…”
Ye Yibai held back his laughter so hard his face turned red.
Gao Muting’s mouth twitched hard.
This woman…
Is she here for romance, or is she ordering takeout in her dreams?!
—That night, neither of the big husbands got any sleep.
One was too nervous she’d roll away again.
The other was anxious, waiting for the next “reverse roll” chance.
And Wen Nuannuan?
She slept better than anyone.
