- Chapter 9 - “You’re comparing desserts to sports—I’ve never seen them that way.”
Wen Nuannuan was in a rare good mood and, with a mental chant of “Wifey mode: ON,” decided to cook dinner herself.
Well, “cook” might be a stretch. What she actually did was pull a pack of creamy soup from the freezer, boil some half-cooked noodles, sprinkle some herbs on top, and plate it like a five-star chef. In her mind, it was absolutely perfect!
She carried the steaming hot dinner over to Ye Yibai, sat across from him with her chin in her hands, smiling sweetly like a heroine from a romantic drama.
“I made this, you wanna try it?” she asked.
Ye Yibai chuckled softly and picked up the spoon, as gentle as if he were about to receive the rarest dish in the universe. “Of course. I’ve been looking forward to it.”
But before he could taste it, Wen Nuannuan snatched the spoon right back, lowering her voice into something sultry. “Nope. I’m feeding you~ Remember? We said we’d live like a real married couple.”
Then, as if adding fuel to the fire, she leaned close and breathed softly by his ear:
“Married couples need… rituals.”
Ye Yibai’s smile deepened, the corners of his eyes dropping low like a predator playing nice.
“Alright then, I won’t move. I’ll leave it all to you.”
Wen Nuannuan proudly scooped up a spoonful of soup and brought it to his lips.
And her hand slipped.
“Ah!” she gasped.
Splat. The soup dropped right onto Ye Yibai’s shirt—right at the hardest-to-clean spot on his chest.
Her eyes widened in panic, voice leaping like a startled kitten: “I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry! I didn’t do it on purpose!”
Ye Yibai looked down at the mess but didn’t look angry at all. In fact, the corners of his lips curved up in a helpless smile. “Looks like your feeding skill level… still needs a few more upgrades.”
Wen Nuannuan puffed out her cheeks, arms akimbo. “Hmph! Didn’t you say I’m cute no matter what?”
“At this rate, I’m being cutely scalded.” Ye Yibai answered slowly, his tone full of resignation—but his gaze shone with a fondness he couldn’t hide. “But I think… getting burned like this is kind of worth it.”
He leaned in closer, ignoring the soup stain, and murmured by her ear:
“But… if you really want to ‘feed me full’, I wouldn’t mind switching to another method.” He looked quite happy with the idea.
Wen Nuannuan’s face turned beet red. She smacked his forehead with the spoon. “Be serious!”
They were still flirting, the air between them thick with sweetness—
When the front door suddenly clicked open with a clack and someone pushed it in.
They’re stood Gao Muting in full military uniform, his black coat still on, the chill of his latest mission still clinging to him like a second skin. He stood silently at the doorway, gaze falling sharply on the two people inside—
Wen Nuannuan holding a spoon, leaning in close, Ye Yibai’s shirt suspiciously wet. He looked like he had just been very well fed.
The air froze.
Gao Muting: “…Did I walk into the wrong house?”
Wen Nuannuan jumped to her feet. “Ah! No no no, you’re in the right place!”
Ye Yibai calmly stood up, even straightening his shirt. “You came back earlier than I expected.”
Gao Muting’s face stayed cold, his eyes scanning over Ye Yibai’s chest like a military-grade scanner. His voice was calm, but it made the whole room feel five degrees colder. “You two… seem very close.”
Wen Nuannuan wanted to crawl into the soup pot. She quickly tossed the spoon aside, ran over, and grabbed Gao Muting’s arm with a solemn little face full of loyalty.
“You’re my main husband. Of course I should kiss you first!”
Then she tiptoed and kissed the corner of his lips.
Gao Muting was stunned for a moment. The hard lines of his face cracked, and even his ears turned visibly red. “…Next time, change into clean clothes before feeding anyone.”
Wen Nuannuan blinked with innocent eyes. “I’ll improve… So, do you want to try my soup too? I mean, yeah, it’s from an instant pack… but I added love.”
Gao Muting glanced at Ye Yibai, and for once, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly. He replied in a low voice, “Feed me. I won’t move.”
Ye Yibai, ever calm, added softly, with a clear jab:
“Careful not to spill it again. His soldier temper isn’t as forgiving as mine.”
Wen Nuannuan gripped the spoon, about to explode. “Ugh! Can you two stop bickering already? I just wanted to be a good wife!”
“…Why does it feel like I’m feeding two oversized dogs fighting over dinner?!”
Ye Yibai stroked his chin, smiling lazily. “If you feed me a few more bites, I might just ask for… dessert.”
Gao Muting added in a steady voice, “I won’t miss post-meal exercise either.”
Damn it. How long was she supposed to put up with this? Whoever said men think with their lower halves… was 100% right.
Wen Nuannuan: “…Is your definition of dessert and exercise the same as mine?”
Both men answered in unison:
“Absolutely the same.”
Her face turned red in an instant. “You two! Out of my kitchen! If you tease me again, I’m putting chili in dinner!”
