- Chapter 19 - You like it that much?
After crashing the date, Jiang Nian bolted faster than anyone. She was grinning like a fool as she hopped on the electric scooter, smugly thinking, In the end, my sister is still mine—no one can take her away.
When she got home, she parked the little scooter in a corner of the underground garage. It looked out of place, nestled among rows of luxury cars and supercars—an amusing sight.
Jiang Nian hummed a cheerful tune as she called her secretary, Lu Renbing. She first gave a few instructions about tomorrow’s schedule, then casually and not-so-subtly praised the little electric scooter.
“President Jiang, if you like the scooter, I can arrange to have a new one delivered?” Lu Renbing was thoroughly confused by her boss’s sudden fondness for electric scooters. Wasn’t she always into limited-edition, flashy sports cars?
Jiang Nian strolled leisurely, speaking with satisfaction: “You have no idea how smoothly I used your scooter today to catch someone cheating.”
“Huh?” the secretary exclaimed in surprise.
Realizing she had misspoken, Jiang Nian quickly corrected herself, “Ahem, I mean… I crashed Wen Yu’s date.”
“President Jiang, you really are quite fond of Miss Qiao,” Lu Renbing said, suddenly understanding everything.
They didn’t speak much after that and hung up the phone.
After changing into her loungewear and sitting for a bit, Jiang Nian slowly started to feel that something was off.
What did her secretary say just now?
“Quite fond…”
Was she really… fond of Qiao Wenyu? Was this… love?
“No way. That’s impossible…” Jiang Nian had never been in love before, never had feelings for anyone. She firmly denied that this possessiveness, protectiveness, and tenderness were signs of romance.
While Jiang Nian sat in the living room, turning it over in her mind and getting nowhere, the sound of the front door opening snapped her out of her thoughts.
Qiao Wenyu came home, wrapped in the cool night air. She was holding a bouquet of roses, and she looked a bit tired.
Jiang Nian, lying on the sofa, instantly sprang up like a startled fish, her eyes lighting up. “Sister, you’re back?”
Qiao Wenyu, still holding the fresh, dewy roses, nodded. “Mm. These… these were from President Jiang. I didn’t want to take them, but she insisted.”
“It’s okay, Sister. This scent is just like your pheromones—I like it.” Jiang Nian had barely finished speaking when she bit her tongue.
Oh no, she thought. Did I just say I liked it? That sounded way too off.
Qiao Wenyu didn’t seem to mind the wording. She gently put down the bouquet and cautiously asked, “President Jiang invited me to a movie tomorrow… would you mind?”
“N-no, not at all,” Jiang Nian forced the words out between clenched teeth.
She minded. A lot!
She had just sabotaged that date today—how dare Jiang Fenyun still ask Qiao Wenyu out?
Qiao Wenyu gave a faint smile. “Alright then. You should rest early.”
Just as she finished speaking, she turned to head back to her room.
Jiang Nian suddenly remembered something she hadn’t done yet. In a moment of panic, she reached out and pulled Qiao Wenyu into her arms.
Qiao Wenyu froze like a frightened rabbit. Her eyes widened as she turned her head, staring at Jiang Nian in surprise.
“Sister, I haven’t given you your pheromones yet,” Jiang Nian said, releasing her. Her palm, which had just touched Qiao Wenyu’s waist, felt like it was burning—the heat spreading through her hand.
“Then come in,” Qiao Wenyu said softly, lowering her eyes. Her long lashes fluttered like butterfly wings.
Jiang Nian looked shocked. “Can I?”
Since moving in together, neither of them had ever entered the other’s room.
Qiao Wenyu opened the door and made a welcoming gesture. “This is your home too. You’re free to go wherever you like. Come in.”
With permission granted, Jiang Nian entered Qiao Wenyu’s room.
The room was lit by a warm-toned night lamp. In theory, the orange glow should’ve made the room feel cozy, but the overall palette of the room was too plain and cold.
Jiang Nian could smell the rose-scented pheromones lingering in the air. Her breath quickened slightly.
She really liked this scent. It made her feel calm.
They sat across from each other on the window seat. Jiang Nian tied up her hair and began to emit her own pheromones, which smelled like red wine. She then reached out, intending to help Qiao Wenyu remove the pheromone-blocking patch.
Halfway through the motion, Jiang Nian paused—this felt way too intimate.
She froze, withdrew her hand, and said quietly, “Sister, you can take it off yourself.”
“Okay,” Qiao Wenyu replied, casually peeling off the patch.
As usual, Jiang Nian lowered her head, exposing her gland and slowly releasing her pheromones.
She loved the smell of roses. She loved her sister. She loved—
Jiang Nian jolted in shock, stunned by the thought that had suddenly appeared in her mind.
What was I just thinking?
Startled by the intrusive realization, she instinctively looked up—and in doing so, her lips brushed against Qiao Wenyu’s cheek.
Her sister’s face was so soft!
No—this was bad! She had just touched her!
Jiang Nian’s pale face turned bright red, like a ripe tomato.
Qiao Wenyu tilted her head in confusion. “What’s wrong?”
Seeing her favorite face magnified right in front of her eyes, Jiang Nian panicked. She immediately retracted her pheromones and sprang back several meters.
“Sister, I’m not feeling well. Good night!”
With her heart pounding like a drum, Jiang Nian fled to her room in total embarrassment.
Even by noon the next day, as Jiang Nian sat in her office reviewing proposals, she remained deeply unsettled. She hadn’t had time to reflect before, but now that she thought about it carefully, she couldn’t deny that she might actually have feelings for Qiao Wenyu.
“You. Come here,” Jiang Nian called, ready to emotionally torment her secretary, Lu Renbing.
Standing stiffly beside the desk, Lu Renbing asked, “President Jiang, is there something wrong with the proposal?”
“It’s not about the proposal. I want to ask you something…” Jiang Nian paused, organized her thoughts, then continued, “What kind of feelings do you think I have for Wenyu?”
Faced with this unexpected question, Lu Renbing was completely stunned. His facial features scrunched up all at once. “President Jiang, I… how am I supposed to answer that?”
Jiang Nian propped her chin on her hand. “Answer honestly.”
“Well, it’s kind of like… the feelings between a married couple,” the secretary mumbled under his breath.
Jiang Nian slammed her hand on the desk. “Impossible!”
“What else could it be?” Lu Renbing shrugged. He was just being truthful.
Just as they were discussing this rather awkward matter, Jiang Nian’s phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID, frowned slightly, and answered with clear reluctance, “Hello?”
On the other end, Jiang Fenyun giggled. “My dear bestie!”
“If you’ve got something to say, say it. I’m busy.” Jiang Nian was clearly irritated—mainly because Jiang Fenyun wouldn’t stop clinging to Qiao Wenyu.
Jiang Fenyun dropped her playful tone. “Well, here’s the thing. I had plans to take your wife to a movie this afternoon—wait, that sounds bad, like I’m the villain. What I meant was, I wanted to spend time with Wenyu and deepen our relationship, but… unexpected things happened.”
“You’re not going anymore? Great,” Jiang Nian said, genuinely pleased.
After hemming and hawing for a while, Jiang Fenyun finally got to the point, her tone almost pleading. “My cousin just flew back to the country and insisted I pick her up. She holds shares in our company—I can’t exactly say no. But someone still needs to go to the movie, right? Can you go instead? Just think of it as accompanying your contract wife. It won’t kill you.”
“Can’t you refund the ticket?” Jiang Nian didn’t believe for a second that fate had suddenly handed her such a golden opportunity.
Jiang Fenyun sounded troubled. “I booked it at a private VIP cinema. Their policy doesn’t allow refunds, and if you cancel three times in a row, your membership gets revoked.”
“Three times?”
“Well… the first two times I skipped to have dinner with that young model,” Jiang Fenyun said shyly. “Let’s not dwell on the past—just help me out, please?”
Jiang Nian clicked her tongue.
“Please~ I’m begging you,” Jiang Fenyun said in a deliberately high-pitched voice.
“If you keep talking like that, I won’t go.”
“Aiya, you’re the best, Nian.” Clearly busy, Jiang Fenyun didn’t say more and hung up right away.
Jiang Nian sighed. After checking the e-ticket Jiang Fenyun had sent her, she reluctantly put her work aside and headed straight for the cinema.
Lu Renbing noticed how hurriedly his boss left and couldn’t help smiling and shaking his head. “And she says it’s not romantic? Looks pretty affectionate to me.”
Jiang Nian was in such a rush, she didn’t even hear her secretary’s comment. She jumped in her car and sped toward the theater.
Upon arrival, she scanned the ticket and entered the designated screening room.
When she opened the door, Qiao Wenyu was already there. It was a private two-person screening room, very nicely set up. Qiao Wenyu was just about to sit down.
“Xiao Nian? You’re here?” she asked, surprised.
Jiang Nian scratched her head awkwardly. “Well… Fenyun had to pick up her cousin from the airport. She couldn’t make it.”
“What? You mean…” Qiao Wenyu’s reaction was oddly intense.
“She can’t come. Are you… disappointed?” Jiang Nian assumed Qiao Wenyu was upset about being stood up.
Qiao Wenyu avoided the question and pointed to the screen. “It’s about to start. Let’s sit and watch.”
Jiang Nian turned to look. Right next to the screen was the movie poster.
A sweet love story. An intense Alpha-Omega romance. The leading couple on the poster looked longingly into each other’s eyes.
This was the kind of movie meant for dating couples… definitely not something the two of them should be watching together.
Jiang Nian shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
