After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Became a Slave to My Beloved Wife (GL) - Chapter 28
Last night, did they…?
Jiang Nian sat alone at the dimly lit bar, staring blankly at the glass in her hand. She’d already had several drinks. The smell clinging to her wasn’t from pheromones—this time, it was real alcohol.
“Why couldn’t the one she loves… be me?” she slurred bitterly, eyes wet, voice trembling. Her nose tingled with the sting of tears. “Why…”
She kept pouring herself drinks. Every time the glass was empty, she refilled it—over and over—until her arms gave out and she could no longer lift the bottle.
The bartender, noticing she was clearly drunk, came over and gently tapped her back. “Miss? Miss, are you alright?”
“Mm… I… I really… fell for you,” Jiang Nian mumbled incoherently, her words slurred and soft. It was only when drunk that she dared to speak the truth in her heart.
The bartender, used to heartbroken patrons, quietly picked up her phone from the bar. Using her fingerprint, he unlocked it and found the pinned contact at the top of her list.
He made the call and spoke politely, like he’d done a dozen times before: “Hello? Is this Mr. Lu? Miss Jiang’s had a bit to drink. She needs someone to come pick her up.”
Lu Renbing was still working late at the office when he got the call. He hung up, then opened his contact list and picked out the sweet-looking omega Jiang Nian had contacted a few times recently.
He didn’t realize she was drunk and needed help getting home—he mistakenly assumed she wanted companionship, as had happened before. It was an automatic reaction by now.
The person he called was Xu Mian.
It had been a while since Xu Mian had seen Jiang Nian—ever since that day at the concert, there’d been no contact.
When she entered the bar and saw Jiang Nian again, she was taken aback. The powerful, confident woman she once knew was now slumped over the counter, completely out of sorts.
She almost didn’t recognize this version of President Jiang—wasted and heartbroken in a dingy little bar.
“President Jiang, wake up,” Xu Mian said softly, crouching down beside her and gently patting her face.
Jiang Nian mumbled something through clenched eyes and tear-stained cheeks.
“What did you say?”
Xu Mian leaned in closer, listening carefully. Eventually, she made out the name Jiang Nian kept whispering—
Qiao Wenyu.
Xu Mian let out a quiet sigh. She was just an omega—there was no way she could carry Jiang Nian home alone. With no other choice, she pulled out her own phone and dialed someone else.
“Miss Qiao, President Jiang is drunk at a bar. She’s been calling your name over and over,” Xu Mian said quietly, one hand covering the phone’s receiver to mute the background noise.
Qiao Wenyu, just about to rest for the night, sat up immediately, now fully awake. “How drunk is she?”
“She’s completely out of it. I can’t move her. Miss Qiao, I really don’t know what to do,” Xu Mian replied, clearly worried.
“I’m coming right now. Send me the address,” Qiao Wenyu said, already getting out of bed.
Still in her hospital gown, she threw on a coat and grabbed her phone.
“Yes, Miss Qiao. Right away,” Xu Mian answered respectfully.
While waiting for Qiao Wenyu to arrive, Xu Mian sat beside Jiang Nian, keeping a close eye on her in case she got sick or passed out completely.
Thankfully, by the time Qiao Wenyu arrived, Jiang Nian was still slumped over the counter, motionless, occasionally murmuring drunken nonsense.
“Let’s get her into a taxi together,” Qiao Wenyu instructed.
The two omegas struggled to lift Jiang Nian, supporting her from both sides.
“Careful, go slow,” Qiao Wenyu said as she wrapped an arm gently around Jiang Nian’s waist, afraid she might slip and fall.
With great effort, they made it to the taxi. The driver helped them get her inside and into a seat.
“I’ll leave her in your care now, Miss Qiao. If you need anything, call me,” Xu Mian said, waving from the sidewalk.
Qiao Wenyu wiped the sweat from her brow and smiled gratefully. “Be careful on your way home. Thank you for everything.”
Xu Mian shook her head. “Not at all. Good night.”
The taxi slowly pulled away from the curb and turned onto a narrow gravel road filled with bumps and dips.
“Mm…” Jiang Nian groaned, her brow furrowing as if she were in pain.
The driver, without turning around, called out, “Just letting you know—if she throws up in the car, there’s a cleaning fee.”
“I understand, sir,” Qiao Wenyu replied calmly. She reached over and rolled down the window farther.
The breeze drifted in, carrying fresh air and a familiar scent—soft and rosy, tinged with the pheromones that comforted Jiang Nian most.
She relaxed. Her brows eased, and her breath steadied as she leaned peacefully into Qiao Wenyu’s arms.
After an uneventful ride, the driver pulled up outside Jiang Nian’s home.
“Sir, could I ask for your help getting her inside? I’ll tip you,” Qiao Wenyu said politely.
But the driver, a warmhearted man, waved it off. “No need. I’ve had plenty of drunk rich folks in my car. Helping one out isn’t a big deal. And earlier—I was just bluffing about the vomit. Didn’t want anything bad to happen to her while you weren’t looking.”
“Thank you so much.”
With the driver’s help, Qiao Wenyu half-carried, half-dragged Jiang Nian into the bedroom and gently laid her on the bed.
The moment Jiang Nian felt the soft blankets under her, her body finally relaxed. But peace didn’t last long—her mouth began to move again, words tumbling out in slurred nonsense…
“Jiejie… I lo… mmm… you…” Jiang Nian mumbled into the pillow, eyes still shut.
Qiao Wenyu quietly tended to her, carefully removing her coat and shoes so she could sleep more comfortably.
Just as she was finishing up, she suddenly realized her hand had been caught—Jiang Nian was holding it tightly. She tried to pull away, but no matter how much strength she used, she couldn’t break free.
Jiang Nian let out a faint, protective-sounding whimper in her sleep, as if warning someone away from something precious.
Qiao Wenyu sighed. She couldn’t stand there all night. Gently, she tried to pry Jiang Nian’s fingers loose with her other hand.
But the moment she tugged, Jiang Nian pulled her forcefully into her arms.
“Jiejie…” Still asleep, Jiang Nian rolled over and hugged her tightly.
Now truly caught in the “wolf’s” den, Qiao Wenyu had no way to escape. She had just recovered from a fever and was still feeling weak. After all that earlier exertion, she didn’t have the strength to fight her way free.
So she gave up resisting and settled into Jiang Nian’s embrace.
With her eyes closed, leaning against Jiang Nian’s chest, Qiao Wenyu found herself feeling strangely at peace. She had never liked physical closeness, preferring to keep a polite distance from others—but here in Jiang Nian’s arms, she felt nothing but safety.
“Goodnight, silly puppy,” she whispered, touching the tip of Jiang Nian’s nose with her fingertip. Then, satisfied, she closed her eyes.
That night, both of them slept soundly, sweeter than any sleep they’d had in a long time.
By the time Jiang Nian finally cracked open her eyes the next morning, the sun was already high in the sky.
She stared at the ceiling for a moment before squeezing her eyes shut again, wanting to enjoy just a little more time in the warm blankets.
But then, she felt something warm under her arm.
She turned her head sharply—and saw Qiao Wenyu, fast asleep, curled into her neck and shoulder.
Panic hit her like a tidal wave.
She had blacked out after drinking and couldn’t remember a thing. How on earth had Qiao Wenyu ended up in her bed?
“Sigh…” Jiang Nian let out a heavy, regretful breath. Carefully, she tucked Qiao Wenyu’s hand back under the blanket and fled the room as fast as she could.
After freshening up and changing into clean clothes, she practically sprinted out the front door, unwilling to linger even a second longer.
What she didn’t realize was that, just as she left, Qiao Wenyu also stirred awake.
Half-opening her eyes, she saw Jiang Nian’s flustered retreat.
“Silly puppy…” Qiao Wenyu smiled softly and closed her eyes again, savoring the lingering scent of Jiang Nian on the sheets.
Meanwhile, that very silly puppy was now sitting in her office, staring blankly at a pile of documents, completely unable to focus.
She’d been hit by a beauty overload first thing in the morning—so much that her heart was still racing.
Lu Renbing walked in, caught sight of her dazed expression, and after giving a routine update, leaned in and asked mischievously, “President Jiang, how was last night? Everything to your satisfaction?”
Jiang Nian froze. “What… what did you say?”
“Well, last night, weren’t you with—”
Before he could finish, Jiang Nian cut him off. “Hahaha, what a beautiful day today, huh?”
What are you even talking about, Random Office Guy C?! What happened last night? What did I do?
Lu Renbing was completely confused. “But, President Jiang, you asked me to call someone for you. I thought—”
“Alright, alright, we’re on company time now. Let’s focus on work—not personal stuff,” she said, brushing it off with a forced smile, clearly unwilling to talk about it.
Outwardly, she was pretending to work. Inwardly, her mind was a whirlwind.
What on earth happened between me and Jiejie last night? Did I… did I cross a line?
But I didn’t feel any signs of… you know… That kind of night. Right?
“President Jiang,” Lu said, snapping her out of it. “The Yan family is in the spotlight right now. I think they’re too busy to interfere with your project. We need to push forward while we can—we can’t afford to delay any longer.”
“Yes, yes…” Jiang Nian nodded distractedly, but her mind was still miles away.
“Also,” Lu continued, “next week is Miss Qiao’s birthday. Any plans? She’s been working hard lately—maybe you could take her somewhere to relax?”
Jiang Nian blinked slowly, thoughts spinning. Working hard? Wait—did I not… not do anything to her last night? But… I really can’t remember anything…
Now it was Lu’s turn to be confused. He had no idea what she was mumbling about.
A few moments passed before Jiang Nian’s brain finally caught up to the conversation.
“Her birthday? Of course I have to do something special for Xiao Yu.”
Lu smiled awkwardly. “Also, President Bai is scheduled to meet you this afternoon—to follow up on the project.”
“Hmph…” Jiang Nian’s mood dropped instantly at the mention of Bai Ye.
But then a wicked idea crossed her mind. After all, she had just woken up next to her Jiejie. The thought of rubbing that in Bai Ye’s face… was irresistible.
“Lu Renbing,” she called.
“Yes, President Jiang?”
“Make sure the conference room is decorated with extra roses this afternoon. I want President Bai to get a good taste of what she can’t have.”
She crossed her arms smugly, already savoring the satisfaction.
