After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Met the Reborn Omega (GL) - Chapter 19
Lin Changsheng returned to the lab, feeling somewhat downcast.
She wanted to help Mo Zhaoyan, yet she realized there was very little she could actually do.
The only thing she could do was try to speed up the data corrections.
But no matter how hard she pushed, it still wouldn’t be fast enough.
Lin Changsheng was, indeed, easily affected by emotions.
Ever since the system began explaining things to her, she had always attributed these negative feelings to the lingering subconscious influence of the original owner.
Yet, no matter the explanation, it didn’t make the feelings any easier to endure.
Helplessness.
Incompetence.
An endless cycle of self-blame.
What kind of experiences had this body endured to develop such instinctive negativity?
“I can’t do anything right.”
“Someone like me doesn’t deserve to stay by Mo Zhaoyan’s side.”
Although Lin Changsheng fought to suppress these thoughts, a persistent voice kept whispering temptations into her ear.
Thankfully, once again, Mo Zhaoyan appeared at just the right moment—
Like a healing medicine, she always showed up precisely when Lin Changsheng needed her the most, calming the storm inside her heart.
Lin Changsheng thought to herself:
No matter the world, no matter which version of “me”—
I would still fall in love with Mo Zhaoyan.
“How did the talk with Wen Lier go?”
Just hearing her voice brought a rare peace to Lin Changsheng’s heart.
“She agreed,” Lin Changsheng said, “but I don’t think we should be so selfish—to use her life to patch up the company’s crisis.”
Mo Zhaoyan, having lived through a lifetime already, no longer cared much for the so-called company or worldly success.
What mattered to her was Lin Changsheng’s feelings.
She just wanted to be there for her—no matter what.
“I’ll think of another way,” Mo Zhaoyan said.
Not a word of blame, only comfort.
Even though all this mess was caused by the original Lin Changsheng—though Mo Zhaoyan didn’t know that—she showed no anger.
Why?
Was it just because Lin Changsheng claimed to have lost her memory?
Lin Changsheng began to recall everything she knew about Mo Zhaoyan—how she had been investigating the drug issues, how she had discovered the flaws… yet hadn’t pushed the matter.
Instead, she quietly tried to help Lin Changsheng fix it.
Lin Changsheng thought back to the public scandals she had read about:
For two years, the world had been full of rumors about Lin Changsheng’s scandals and about her broken relationship with Mo Zhaoyan.
Yet here was Mo Zhaoyan, looking at her with eyes full of tenderness and indulgence.
Why?
When Lin Changsheng first arrived in this world, Mo Zhaoyan had been cold and distant—truly intending to divorce her.
It wasn’t until Lin Changsheng mentioned her memory loss that Mo Zhaoyan’s attitude changed.
Lin Changsheng couldn’t figure it out.
In the end, she could only attribute it to Mo Zhaoyan’s deep, almost boundless love—
So deep that even betrayal could be forgiven, so long as Lin Changsheng was willing to lower her head and ask for another chance.
Once, the original Lin Changsheng might have been proud of this unconditional love.
But now, Lin Changsheng felt nothing but a chilling sadness.
How deeply must Mo Zhaoyan have loved the original Lin Changsheng—
To forgive everything she had done.
That gentle gaze…
Was it really looking at her?
Or through her, at someone else entirely?
Lin Changsheng suddenly felt a strange jealousy.
But even more so, a deep, overwhelming sorrow.
What right did she have to be jealous?
She was just a stand-in, after all.
Caught between heartbreak and a selfish kind of joy—
At least she could stay by Mo Zhaoyan’s side, even if it was only by taking someone else’s place.
Lin Changsheng thought bitterly:
How long can I hide?
How much longer can I stay by her side?
If the real original never comes back… am I being greedy to want to stay here forever?
Her love was always so humble—
Because she had never truly been loved before, she selfishly longed for it now.
What she didn’t know was—
She had once been loved deeply.
She had simply forgotten.
She had once been replaced by someone else.
And now, she mistakenly believed she was the one doing the replacing.
Mo Zhaoyan, seeing her lost in thought, gently reached out and patted her head.
Thinking she was simply worrying over the company’s problems, she said softly,
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Lin Changsheng could only force a small, bitter smile.
In her heart, she was already convinced— That Mo Zhaoyan’s love was never truly for her.
Mo Zhaoyan couldn’t possibly guess what Lin Changsheng was thinking.
Seeing her so dispirited, she tried to change the subject.
Her gaze landed on the huge metal tank standing in the center of the lab.
“What’s that?” she asked casually.
Lin Changsheng snapped out of her thoughts and quickly tucked away the pitiful, puppy-like look in her eyes.
She turned to the gas tank and explained,
“Oh, that’s the experimental device for vaporizing the inhibitor.”
“Vaporizing?” Mo Zhaoyan asked.
“Yes,” Lin Changsheng said, “once vaporized, you can spray it on like perfume.
It’ll better suppress the release of pheromones.
But it’s still in the research phase.”
Truthfully, her memory of this device wasn’t detailed.
Lin Changsheng herself wasn’t entirely sure about its exact intended use.
Mo Zhaoyan, curious, leaned in for a closer look—
Only to spot a fine crack in the lower left corner.
“Is this cracked?” she asked.
Following her finger, Lin Changsheng ran her hand over the area.
It felt smooth to the touch.
“It’s fine. It’s just the inner glass layer that’s cracked,” she replied lightly.
“Better have someone repair it,” Mo Zhaoyan said.
“We don’t know what side effects vaporized inhibitors might cause.”
“Experimental data shows everything’s stable,” Lin Changsheng reassured her.
“But we haven’t reached human trials yet.”
She didn’t pay much attention to the gas tank.
It was almost the end of the workday anyway.
She glanced at Mo Zhaoyan and asked, “Are you heading home?”
Mo Zhaoyan checked the time but hesitated slightly.
“I still have a meeting later.
You go ahead first.”
Lin Changsheng was more than happy to have some time alone to calm down.
She didn’t insist and quietly left work.
However, just as she stepped outside the company gates— A man suddenly blocked her path.
He had long, disheveled hair, wore a wrinkled white lab coat, and rushed at her like a lunatic.
Startled, Lin Changsheng instinctively took a step back.
Fortunately, the company’s bodyguards quickly stepped in and restrained the man.
“Chief Lin! I finally found you!” the man cried desperately.
“It’s me! My experiment is about to succeed!
You promised—if I succeeded, you’d let me join Mo Corporation!”
He spoke rapidly, erratically, like a madman.
Once Lin Changsheng calmed down, she took a closer look at him.
Unshaven face, thick black-framed glasses—
But not a flicker of recognition stirred in her memory.
She had absolutely no recollection of this person.
Coupled with his crazed appearance, she felt no desire to engage him.
“Who are you?” Lin Changsheng asked coldly.
The words seemed to infuriate him.
The man thrashed wildly, trying to break free from the guards, his bloodshot eyes fixed on Lin Changsheng.
“You don’t remember me?!” he shrieked.
“Why don’t you remember me?!
You can’t forget me!”
The man’s agitation escalated into deranged muttering.
Lin Changsheng, genuinely frightened, instinctively took several steps back.
Luckily, the bodyguards quickly dragged him away.
By then, quite a few employees leaving work had witnessed the commotion.
Lin Changsheng overheard their whispers:
“Isn’t that the guy who kept trying to get into the company?
Got rejected by the Chief several times.”
“Yeah, he used to have a decent academic record, but unfortunately… low-grade genes.
Chief Lin hates low-grade genes the most.”
“Look at him, crazy as hell.
Who knows what experiment he’s babbling about.”
“Even if it succeeded, someone with low-grade genes wouldn’t be allowed in.”
“Shhh, enough. The Chief’s still here.”
Their conversation abruptly stopped the moment Lin Changsheng looked over.
Everyone seemed terrified of her.
Feeling even more isolated, Lin Changsheng decided not to linger and quietly went home.
Meanwhile, Mo Zhaoyan quickly heard about the incident.
She ended her meeting early and rushed home.
When she arrived, she found Lin Changsheng curled up on the couch, watching TV as if nothing had happened.
On the screen, the news was playing:
*”Recently, a serial killer has been reported active, targeting young women.
Please avoid traveling alone after dark and stay in groups whenever possible.”*
Because of Mo Zhaoyan’s return, Lin Changsheng paid little attention to the news.
“You’re back early?” Lin Changsheng asked, surprised.
“I heard someone stopped you outside the company,” Mo Zhaoyan said, frowning.
“Oh, that.
It’s nothing,” Lin Changsheng replied casually.
“You found out so quickly?”
“There’s nothing about the company that I don’t know,” Mo Zhaoyan said softly.
Lin Changsheng had already calmed down.
After all, the madman hadn’t actually harmed her.
But Mo Zhaoyan still wasn’t reassured.
She decided to arrange for Tang Ying to assign a few more bodyguards for Lin Changsheng.
As she sat down, her gaze fell again on the TV screen.
The breaking news continued about the serial killer case.
Mo Zhaoyan frowned slightly.
She tried to recall if she had any memory of this from her past life—
But many events unrelated to Lin Changsheng had long faded from her mind.
“Things aren’t safe outside right now,” Mo Zhaoyan said firmly.
“You’d better come home with me from now on.”
Lin Changsheng immediately agreed, secretly delighted to have an excuse to stay closer to her.
However, she didn’t realize, in just two days, she would be taken away by the police for questioning.
