After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Met the Reborn Omega (GL) - Chapter 21
Around noon that day, Lin Changsheng wanted to go out for a walk and get some fresh air. Not far from where he was, he saw a little girl. She was dressed in rags and walking along the street, looking very frightened. Seeing her bare feet, Lin Changsheng thought she might have run away from somewhere, so he hurried over to ask if she needed help.
At first, the child thought he was there to catch her and was very scared. However, Lin Changsheng patiently stayed by her side, gently explaining that he was not a bad person. Just then, the child trafficker who had been looking for her showed up and tried to take her away. But Lin Changsheng noticed that the girl was extremely afraid of the man and clung tightly to his back, so he refused to let the man take her.
When the man realized that Lin Changsheng was a well-known figure, he became afraid of exposing himself and didn’t dare to linger. In the end, he gave up and left the child behind.
The little girl couldn’t speak, and Lin Changsheng didn’t know exactly what had happened to her. He took her to buy new clothes and later asked if she was hungry. She could only nod foolishly, but at least she could understand spoken words.
Since the nearest place was a McDonald’s, Lin Changsheng took her there to buy food. However, when he came out, the little girl had already left. She hadn’t gone far yet; Lin Changsheng saw from a distance that she turned into a small alley. At first, he wanted to chase after her, but seeing her disappear down the alley, he figured she had gone far enough and decided not to interfere.
That was Lin Changsheng’s final memory of the girl. As for why the old lady remembered the incident so clearly, it was because Lin Changsheng and the girl had accidentally bumped into her on the street while heading toward McDonald’s. The old lady insisted that Lin Changsheng compensate her and pestered them for quite a while. Lin Changsheng ignored her, which led to a prolonged confrontation on the street.
Lin Changsheng later shared all this information with the police. Since he was the last known witness, the police decided not to release him temporarily, though they continued investigating based on his account.
Mo Zhaoyan quickly hired the best lawyer to bail out Lin Changsheng, as the police had no evidence proving he was involved in the kidnapping. Lin Changsheng had returned to the company a little after noon, while the old lady had encountered them at around eleven o’clock. At that time, the little girl had still been unharmed. Furthermore, surveillance footage from McDonald’s showed that after Lin Changsheng went inside, the girl wandered off on her own. Thus, Lin Changsheng did not meet the conditions for being a suspect.
Additionally, there was evidence proving the earlier confusion was due to a leak of drugs, meaning Lin Changsheng had not lied intentionally. In the end, the police had no choice but to release him.
However, after returning home, Lin Changsheng couldn’t stop thinking about the little girl and why she had suddenly walked away.
The next day, Tang Ying reported the results of the investigation to Mo Zhaoyan. The police had found the girl, but something terrible had happened to her. After learning the full story, Mo Zhaoyan decided to keep it a secret.
“We must never let Lin Changsheng know,” he said firmly.
Tang Ying, however, looked worried. “It won’t be easy to hide. The police will soon issue a public announcement.”
Just as Mo Zhaoyan was about to respond, they heard a knock at the door. Lin Changsheng had arrived without them noticing, and since the door hadn’t been closed, they had no idea how much she had overheard. As expected, Lin Changsheng’s smile faded.
“What is it that I’m not supposed to know?” she asked.
Realizing he couldn’t hide it any longer, Mo Zhaoyan walked over and turned on the screen in the office. It happened to be showing the latest police bulletin.
“Yesterday, while tracking a missing girl, the police accidentally discovered the hideout of a serial killer who had recently committed multiple murders. By the time the police arrived, the girl had already been killed. The killer was not found at the scene and remains at large. Various cellular tissues from previously missing girls were also found at the hideout…”
The victim in the video had their face blurred, making it impossible to recognize them. However, Lin Changsheng still identified the girl by her clothes — it was the same girl she had briefly encountered before. In the footage, the girl lay helplessly on an operating table, her clothes disheveled and her limbs tied down with leather straps. Surrounding her were syringes and tubes, making it look like she was subjected to human experimentation.
“The police, based on clues found at the scene, have determined the true identity of the serial killer. He is Xu Jing, a man who had been unemployed for some time. Xu had previously worked in genetic research, but his theories were rejected by Lin Changsheng, leading to his dismissal.”
The man’s face was clearly shown — it was the crazy person who had once blocked Lin Changsheng at the company entrance: Xu Jing.
In her ears, the memory of that encounter echoed:
“You don’t remember me? Why don’t you remember me?! You can’t forget me!”
A wave of nausea welled up from Lin Changsheng’s chest. She gagged a few times but couldn’t vomit anything out. Seeing her drenched in cold sweat, Mo Zhaoyan hurried over to check her condition.
Before he could react further, Lin Changsheng’s vision went black, and she fainted.
In her dream, everything was shrouded in darkness. She saw that room again — the operating table. The girl lay helplessly on the bed, her limbs bound and her mouth unable to utter a word. She had just escaped one nightmare, only to fall into another trap.
Tears streamed down the girl’s cheeks as she whimpered, trying to beg for mercy. The man, so dignified in appearance yet hideous in nature, held various chemical vials in his hands.
“Don’t blame me. If you must blame someone, blame Lin Changsheng,” he said. “It’s because she spoke to you that I noticed you. If not for her, you wouldn’t have to die.
After all, she treated me that way.”
Lin Changsheng tried to stop him, but she found herself completely unable to move. Then, a familiar figure appeared beside her — someone who looked exactly like her. The “other” Lin Changsheng stared coldly at the man before them.
“I told you,” the other said, “you and I are one.
If it weren’t for us, they wouldn’t have had to die.
That man was researching ways to control the direction of genetic differentiation. Undifferentiated individuals — usually minors — are prohibited subjects for human experimentation under national law. That’s why I refused to let him into the company. But he went ahead anyway, and he used your name to commit these murders.
“See? I warned you. Inferior Alphas are genetically flawed. They are destined to commit crimes. Yet no one believed me. I’m on your side. Together, we can change the world.”
Her words slithered like a devil’s whisper, constantly tempting Lin Changsheng.
“I know you’re upset because I took over your body,” Lin Changsheng answered firmly, “but I will never commit a crime.”
Her resolve made the other Lin Changsheng pause in surprise.
“My body?” she repeated, and then, as if something had suddenly clicked, she burst out laughing.
“So that’s it… That’s it! It seems they’ve hidden quite a lot from you.”
Lin Changsheng was confused. “What do you mean?”
But the other Lin Changsheng didn’t explain. Instead, she waved her hand, and the surroundings shifted.
Suddenly, Lin Changsheng found herself amidst roaring flames and the wreckage of two cars after a collision. Amid the inferno, she saw her parents. Her father hadn’t died on impact — he had struggled to crawl out of the car, trying desperately to escape.
Then, from within the smoke, a figure appeared — dressed entirely in black and wearing a sinister demon mask. Lin Changsheng couldn’t make out any features; the figure was blurred, shadow-like. But that person pulled out a dagger and plunged it mercilessly into her father’s body, delivering the fatal blow.
“No!” Lin Changsheng screamed, her voice torn with anguish.
The other Lin Changsheng only watched coldly as the images — buried deep in Lin Changsheng’s memory — unfolded.
Then, another explosion erupted from the wreckage, shattering everything. Flames engulfed the scene, burning Lin Changsheng’s body beyond recognition.
