After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, I Met the Reborn Omega (GL) - Chapter 7
The computer finally booted up, and with it, Lin Changsheng’s long-buried memories stirred.
To the Lin Changsheng ten years from now, those memories felt like distant, dust-covered relics. But to the Lin Changsheng of today, they were events that had happened only a few years ago.
The Lin Changsheng from the future had waited a decade, pouring his heart and soul into getting close to Mo Zhaoyan, desperately clinging to what he thought was his last ray of hope.
The computer’s desktop background was a photo of Lin Changsheng and Mo Zhaoyan together. In the picture, Lin Changsheng’s smile was bright and dazzling under the sunlight, and even Mo Zhaoyan, who rarely showed emotion, was offering a faint, genuine smile.
It seemed that, once upon a time, they had indeed shared some very happy days.
The files on the computer were extremely detailed, and as Lin Changsheng read through them, everything started to feel strangely familiar.
The deeper he dug, the more fragments of forgotten yet undeniably personal memories surfaced in his mind.
These were memories about a special project.
Three years ago, Lin Changsheng had discovered a new kind of plant — a flower that glowed with an eerie blue light. By extracting the blue element from the flower, he had developed a patch capable of suppressing pheromones.
That miraculous plant had been named after him: the Changsheng Flower.
At that time, Mo Corporation had been facing a serious crisis. Although Mo Zhaoyan had taken over the company a decade earlier, the focus on pharmaceutical research had become outdated with the rise of differentiation.
It was Lin Changsheng’s suppressants that saved the company. Driven by mutual benefit, he and Mo Zhaoyan had signed a contractual engagement.
Thanks to the suppressants and patches he developed, Mo Corporation managed to turn its fate around, securing their first major success.
Although other companies later developed similar products, none could match Mo Corporation’s strength — they stayed firmly at the top.
Now, the new inhibitor about to be released was an upgraded version of the original formula.
Inside the large tank in the lab was a purified, concentrated blue liquid — the latest form of the suppressant.
The purpose of the tank was to vaporize the liquid, as Lin Changsheng aimed to create an even more convenient, inhalable version.
All the data showed that the drug was safe.
Yet even though some memories had returned, Lin Changsheng realized they were incomplete.
And in the fragments that flashed through his mind, there was something else — another flower.
Unlike the Changsheng Flower, this one was bl00d-red, and it glowed faintly.
Lin Changsheng was sure he had never seen it before, yet the image had appeared in his mind, vivid and haunting.
Maybe there were no problems with the suppressants themselves.
But there was one number that concerned him: the concentration level was extremely high — far higher than before.
While the Changsheng Flower could suppress pheromones, could such a potent concentration cause unexpected side effects?
Although he’d recovered some memories from the project files, he still didn’t fully understand everything.
He wanted to ask the researchers about it but was worried someone might realize he had lost parts of his memory.
He definitely couldn’t ask Zhou Yiyi — she clearly knew too much.
After going through the files, Lin Changsheng decided to walk around the outside laboratories, hoping to learn more about what was going on behind the scenes.
He had full access to all the labs on this floor, so thanks to facial recognition, he could pass through without any trouble.
After wandering for a while, he found himself in the Changsheng Flower cultivation room.
The entire space was bathed in an eerie blue glow, making the place look almost otherworldly.
Inside, there was only one young woman diligently recording the status of the plants.
She looked to be about twenty years old — roughly the same age Lin Changsheng had been before traveling through time.
She was deeply focused on her work, dressed in a clean white lab coat, occasionally pushing up her black-rimmed glasses as she moved from flower to flower.
Lin Changsheng watched her for a while, but she remained completely absorbed, not noticing his presence.
In her, he saw a reflection of his younger self — passionate, diligent, and undeterred even by the most tedious tasks.
“Ahem.”
Startled by the sudden sound, Wen Lier spun around — then gasped.
“Ah! You’re… Lin Changsheng!”
Her face lit up in shock. She clutched her tablet tightly, realizing her outburst was inappropriate, and quickly composed herself, standing up straight.
“Good afternoon, Chief!” she said formally.
Lin Changsheng couldn’t help but smile a little.
This girl was clearly a huge fan.
Out of politeness, he extended a hand toward her.
Wen Lier, visibly thrilled, quickly set down her tablet, wiped her hands nervously, and grasped his hand with both of hers.
Lin Changsheng now had the chance to observe her more closely.
Strangely, there was something androgynous about her.
After differentiation, Alphas and Omegas were usually easy to tell apart — Alphas looked sharper and more commanding, while Omegas were softer and more delicate.
Yet for a moment, Lin Changsheng couldn’t tell what Wen Lier was.
He could also feel how tightly she was holding his hand — it was starting to hurt.
“You can let go now,” Lin Changsheng said, half-amused, half-pained.
“Ah, right! I’m so sorry, Chief! I was just… too excited!” Wen Lier stammered.
“You’re my idol! I can’t believe I’m meeting you like this — it’s such an honor!”
“Don’t be so nervous. Haven’t you seen me around the company before?”
“I have, but…” Wen Lier laughed awkwardly.
“The Chief usually doesn’t like interacting with people. Most lab matters are handled through my sister, Deputy Zhou. This is the first time I’ve ever spoken directly to you.”
Lin Changsheng wasn’t surprised.
He had never been fond of social interaction.
But seeing how distant he had become in other people’s eyes made him realize just how much had changed in the past ten years.
Looking at the young woman in front of him — noticing her connection to Zhou Yiyi — Lin Changsheng thought maybe he could get some useful information through her.
“You said you’re my fan. How long have you been working here?”
“I just completed my first year,” Wen Lier said proudly.
“I’ve admired you for so long! It took me forever to get into Mo Corporation. Your research achievements moved me so deeply — I vowed to become someone as great as you someday!”
Hearing her passionate words, Lin Changsheng felt a little embarrassed.
“Am I really that amazing?”
“But the company belongs to President Mo.”
Lin Changsheng picked up on something unusual in her words and probed further. What Wen Lier said next left him utterly shocked.
“But the entire Research Association supports you. They’re all here because of you. If you leave, naturally, we would follow you.”
“I have no intention of leaving Mo Corporation.”
Lin Changsheng felt that something was off, though he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what.
Mo Corporation was such a large conglomerate; it used to specialize in pharmaceutical research. After Lin Changsheng joined, it shifted focus to inhibitor development, with only thirty percent of the original industry operations remaining. If Lin Changsheng left and took all the research personnel with him, the blow to Mo Corporation would be immense. Even someone like Lin Changsheng, who didn’t understand much about business, could see that. Would Mo Zhaoyan be unaware of this?
“So, your relationship with President Mo is still good, right? Those rumors outside are just nonsense?”
Wen Lier immediately switched to a gossiping tone. Of course, Lin Changsheng couldn’t admit that his relationship with Mo Zhaoyan was strained. Seeing Wen Lier’s gossipy look, he knew if he said the wrong thing, the entire company would find out by tomorrow.
“We’re doing great,” he replied.
Unexpectedly, Wen Lier exclaimed in excitement, “I knew it! I’m a fan of you and President Mo as a couple. I never believed those rumors for a second!”
Lin Changsheng hadn’t expected Wen Lier to not only be a fan of his but also a CP (couple pairing) fan. He thought she hardly resembled a serious researcher with her over-the-top reactions.
“CP? Never mind that. I have a serious question for you: have you ever seen a flower that emits a red glow?”
Wen Lier finally straightened up, seemingly trying to recall.
“No, we’ve always been researching the Everlasting Flower here. I’ve never seen a red one.”
As she spoke, she picked up her tablet and searched through it. After a while, she shook her head, confirming, “No, Chief. We don’t have such a flower.”
“Why do you ask, Chief?”
“This is classified. You mustn’t tell anyone—this is our little secret.”
Lin Changsheng pressed a finger to his lips, making a “shh” gesture. Wen Lier’s eyes immediately sparkled with excitement, and she nodded obediently, feeling like this was the luckiest day of her life.
“Are you close with Zhou Yiyi?”
Upon hearing Zhou Yiyi’s name, Wen Lier hesitated. But since it was her idol asking, after a few seconds of internal struggle, she confessed everything to Lin Changsheng.
“Zhou Yiyi is my older sister. I owe it to her that I got into Mo Corporation.”
“But you two don’t share the same surname.”
“She took our mother’s surname, and I took our father’s.”
“I don’t recall Zhou Yiyi ever mentioning that,” Lin Changsheng said calmly, though in truth, he was merely testing her.
“My sister didn’t want others to know I was her younger sister.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone.”
Just as Lin Changsheng left, Mo Zhaoran arrived.
Upon entering, she saw Wen Lier standing there dazed, her face dreamy.
Mo Zhaoran was carrying a bouquet of roses.
“What are you daydreaming about?”
Wen Lier snapped out of it and, upon seeing Mo Zhaoran, her expression immediately turned to one of disdain—a change Mo Zhaoran didn’t miss.
“Why do you look so disgusted when you see me?”
Wen Lier returned to her serious demeanor.
“What are you doing here?”
Mo Zhaoran didn’t mind her attitude at all; she was happy as long as Wen Lier still responded to her.
“I brought you flowers~”
Wen Lier gave the bouquet a brief glance but didn’t accept it.
“If there’s nothing else, Young President Mo, please leave. I’m busy.”
Mo Zhaoran wasn’t surprised. She casually found a vase and placed the roses in it.
“I’m not busy. I’ll keep you company for a while,” she said, completely ignoring Wen Lier’s rejection.
“Young President Mo, let’s be honest: we’re not suited for each other. Could you stop coming around?”
“But I think we’re perfect for each other!”
Wen Lier rubbed her forehead.
Just because she had once accidentally offended this Young President Mo, she was now being persistently pursued. One careless comment—”You’re an interesting woman; you’ve caught my attention”—had led to days of trouble.
But after all, she worked here; it wasn’t something she could avoid.
“You know my situation. There’s no way we could be together. Besides, the person I like must be someone like my idol.”
“Your idol? Lin Changsheng?”
“Exactly! The Chief! No one else can even compare to a thousandth of him!”
“Lin Changsheng? What’s so great about him?”
Mo Zhaoran had just opened her mouth to complain when she saw Wen Lier, face full of displeasure, push her out the door.
After all, how could she tolerate someone insulting her beloved idol?
“Lier!”
“Come back and talk to me only after you learn to respect my idol.”
