After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, the Movie Queen Just Wants to Pamper Her Wife (LILY, ABO) - Chapter 11
“Sister Wu, how long do you think our marriage will last?”
After Xi Xiaoyan asked the question, she tilted her head slightly and looked straight at Meng Chuwu, not blinking, waiting for her answer.
Meng Chuwu’s palms began to sweat. Even if, later on, she would have to separate from Xi Xiaoyan for the sake of survival, now was definitely not the time to say it. After all, this was only the second day of their marriage.
She had planned to observe things for a few more days before making any decisions.
“Didn’t we say it would last forever?” she replied, repeating the exact words the scumbag Alpha had once said.
“Yes. Forever.” Xi Xiaoyan’s eyes lit up, suddenly much brighter.
Meng Chuwu felt a wave of unease. If those words couldn’t be fulfilled, then in the end, they would only become a betrayal.
The weight of responsibility pressed down heavily on her.
“Sister Wu, please don’t lie to me. Don’t hurt me,” Xi Xiaoyan said again. Her tone was gentle, like a lover acting spoiled. It didn’t sound accusing at all. “You said you would always protect me and never let me get hurt. Can you really do that?”
Was this just romantic talk from someone in love? Meng Chuwu froze for a moment.
So, could she really do it? She asked herself honestly.
After answering one difficult question, another followed, just as dangerous.
That scumbag Alpha really knew how to lay it on thick with romantic promises.
“I won’t lie to you, and I won’t hurt you,” Meng Chuwu answered softly. Faced with someone who truly believed in love, she couldn’t bear to destroy her hope so soon after getting married. “I’ll do my best to protect you.” At least until someone else takes my place.
She remembered from the novel that after the Alpha died, a remarkable new Alpha appeared and began to take center stage. As for what happened afterward, Meng Chuwu had never read that far.
“Come on, let’s go eat,” Xi Xiaoyan said as she stood up and quickly slipped into her slippers.
“I thought you said you weren’t hungry.”
“I want to keep Sister Wu company.” Xi Xiaoyan smiled sweetly and gently tucked her loose hair behind her ear.
Just as Meng Chuwu was wondering why this girl was so hard to resist, Xi Xiaoyan naturally slipped her arm through hers.
“Don’t you think it’s a little hot today for April?”
“Sister Wu, don’t even think about shaking me off.” Xi Xiaoyan held on tighter and leaned her face close.
Just like that, the two of them walked out of the bedroom, clinging to each other like any couple still basking in the sweetness of newlywed life. They looked as if nothing from the morning had affected them at all.
Meng Chuwu was nearly one meter seventy. Xi Xiaoyan was a few centimeters shorter. Standing together, they looked perfectly suited to each other.
Not long after Xi Xiaoyan had completed her differentiation as an S-class Omega, she had impulsively married Meng Chuwu. Their sudden wedding became a major topic online, dominating social media across Lucheng and beyond. Discussions about them had never really stopped.
Very few people believed in their marriage. Many doubted it openly. Even Xi Xiaoyan’s own family had not supported the union. If objections alone could have stopped them, the marriage never would have happened.
It had been Xi Xiaoyan who insisted on going through with it, refusing to back down.
Meng Chuwu’s mother had been an exception. The wedding gift she sent included a handwritten poem celebrating love with great warmth and emotion.
After marrying a renowned poet, the retired movie queen had grown fond of writing poetry herself, moved by her relationship and her daughter’s happiness.
She believed her daughter had met the right person. The right person brings growth and helps you become a better version of yourself.
For years, Meng Chuwu had never stayed with anyone long. She drifted from one relationship to the next. But Xi Xiaoyan was different. She had become the exception. She was the true soulmate Meng Chuwu had been searching for.
The scumbag Alpha had always believed her mother understood her best. She had even read that poem aloud to Xi Xiaoyan.
After hearing it, Xi Xiaoyan had really wanted to meet her future mother-in-law. She felt that anyone who respected love and supported their child’s choices was rare and admirable.
“Don’t worry. You’ll get the chance,” the Alpha had promised. “I’ll take you to meet her someday.”
Xi Xiaoyan believed her without a doubt.
Meng Chuwu and Xi Xiaoyan chatted and laughed as they slowly walked downstairs.
Chi Qing and Chen Lanying, who had been playing with a cat, quickly released the white cat and stood at attention.
The white cat, sitting on a wooden stool, looked displeased. When she first arrived at the house, the two maids had immediately caught her and kept calling her Axi, which left her in a particularly bad mood.
“Thank goodness Miss Meng and Miss Xi didn’t fall out over what happened this morning,” Chen Lanying whispered with her head slightly bowed.
“I heard from Aunt Chao that the pregnancy news was all fake. Of course there wouldn’t be a fight,” Chi Qing whispered back.
“Miss Meng dotes on Miss Xi so much. How could something like that possibly happen?”
“They just got married. How can you be so sure that Miss Meng dotes on Miss Xi?”
“She named the new cat Axi. Isn’t that enough proof?”
“That’s true.”
Both of them were secretly pleased. As household staff, they wanted the family to be harmonious. A peaceful home made their work easier.
The white cat let out a sharp meow and jumped off the stool, darting toward the staircase.
When Meng Chuwu heard the cat’s sultry cry, she suddenly remembered the system cat from the night before. Her brows furrowed. She followed the sound and looked down. The white cat running toward them was unmistakably Athena or rather, Axi. Who else could it be?
Axi stopped at the foot of the stairs, sat gracefully, lifted her round little head, and stared at Meng Chuwu and Xi Xiaoyan with sharp, focused eyes.
“Sister Wu, when did you get a cat?” Xi Xiaoyan asked. From the black mark on the cat’s head and the description Chen Lanying gave her earlier that morning, she already knew this was Axi.
“A stray. I don’t know where she came from. I just took her in,” Meng Chuwu answered casually.
Axi looked as glamorous as ever. Today she wore a pale purple scarf. In the daylight, her lips were a soft pink, and the tip of her nose was just as rosy. Her expression showed clear disdain as she looked up at them.
Axi let out another meow. Meng Chuwu’s response had clearly made her even angrier.
Right then, Meng Chuwu heard Axi’s sultry voice echo in her mind.
“Let me warn you, I’m not some stray cat. I’m a purebred, pedigree-level Scottish Fold.”
“Most Scottish Folds have big round eyes, but Yanyan, look at hers. Her eyes slant slightly upward. Doesn’t she look kind of seductive?”
“She really does look a little seductive. And look at her—so clean and chubby. Sister Wu, could she be a cat that ran away from someone else’s home?”
“Well, she refuses to leave, so I don’t have much choice.”
“I heard from Chen earlier that you named her Axi?”
That morning, while picking flowers in the garden, Chen Lanying had told Xi Xiaoyan about what happened the night before with the cat.
She had been quietly delighted. The fact that Meng Chuwu named the cat using her surname made her feel a sweet kind of happiness.
“It’s not Axi with a ‘shi’ sound. It’s Axi with a ‘xi’ sound,” Meng Chuwu corrected her gently.
Watching the two of them whispering to each other on the stairs, snuggled up so closely, Athena—no, Axi—felt like she had just been force-fed a mouthful of romance. She forgot to argue with Meng Chuwu and even forgot to be upset about being ignored.
Not far away, Chen Lanying and Chi Qing saw that Meng Chuwu and Xi Xiaoyan had stopped to play with the cat. So they went back to quietly whispering among themselves.
“Watching them together is more satisfying than a romantic movie.”
“I know, right? How can people this good-looking even exist? Beautiful women end up marrying other beautiful women.”
“As long as I get to keep working here, I wouldn’t leave even if they stopped paying me.”
“Chi, who do you like more?”
“Of course Miss Xi. She’s the prettiest. Didn’t the internet already vote her as the most beautiful Omega in Lucheng? What’s there to question?”
“As for me, I think Miss Meng is more beautiful. There’s something about her that’s just… breathtaking.”
“You little Omega. Naturally, you’re going to be drawn to an Alpha.”
When they noticed that Meng Chuwu and Xi Xiaoyan were done with the cat and heading their way, the two maids quickly stopped talking.
Chi Qing, being more experienced than Chen Lanying, stepped forward and asked, “Miss Meng, is there anything you need?”
“Just prepare some light afternoon tea,” Meng Chuwu said.
“And Miss Xi?”
“I’ll have a glass of papaya juice.”
“Yes, of course.” Chen Lanying and Chi Qing turned and headed toward the kitchen.
Meng Chuwu noticed that her hearing had gotten unusually sharp. The two maids had spoken in soft whispers, but she had still caught most of their conversation. That never would have happened before. Was it true that higher-ranked Alphas had extraordinary abilities?
So in their eyes, just naming the cat Axi was already considered doting?
She honestly didn’t understand it, but when she looked at Xi Xiaoyan beside her, the girl was clearly happy because of this mysterious white cat.
Everyone seemed to be in a good mood. Having just entered this story world, Meng Chuwu let out a small sigh of relief.
Then she looked down at the white cat, who now wore an unhappy expression.
She could guess what this was about. Most likely, Axi was here to urge her to sign the contract.
