Meng Chuwu stepped out of the pool and slowly walked back to the umbrella. She picked up a towel and draped it over her shoulders. Just as she bent down to sit, two curvy women strode directly toward her, forcing her to straighten up again to avoid letting them get too close.

At that moment, both Gong Xueyi and Ji Yi were nowhere in sight.

Across the pool, Xi Xiaoyan had just turned at the far edge after reaching the wall. From a distance, she happened to catch the scene.

Although this wasn’t a standard competition pool, there was still quite a bit of space between them.

Xi Xiaoyan could not hear what they were saying, but she clearly saw the two women in tiny bikinis behaving in a very flirtatious way. They were facing her direction, and she could vaguely make out the teasing expressions on their faces.

Her instincts immediately told her that something was off. Real fans would not act so provocatively, twisting their hips and biting their fingers while speaking to Meng Chuwu.

Without pausing to rest, she dove into the water and swam back.

The two women were Omega twins. Meng Chuwu couldn’t even remember which number they were in Scumbag A’s long history of flings. She only knew that at one point, both sisters had been involved with her at the same time.

“We had such a good time back then. I still think about it. I can never forget you,” the older twin said, playfully biting the tip of her finger.

“You were so heartless. As soon as you found someone new, you stopped caring about us,” she added with a pout.

The younger twin joined in with a flirtatious smile. “Sister Meng, since fate has brought us together again, why not continue where we left off? You know we don’t care about titles or status. All we care about is having fun.”

Meng Chuwu felt a headache coming on. These two had been pestering her for a while now, speaking non stop like glue that wouldn’t peel off.

Because there were too many people around, she couldn’t just tell them off directly. All she could do was try to stay calm.

“I’ve already told you clearly. There is no chance.”

“But we’re not like those people who were only after your money. We just want to enjoy ourselves.”

“Besides, didn’t you say you’d never settle down for any woman?”

As an S class Alpha, Meng Chuwu had a natural appeal to Omegas. The twins had clearly not let go of their obsession.

“Please stop saying things that aren’t true,” Meng Chuwu warned with a serious look.

“We’re not making anything up. These are things you said yourself when we were together.”

“When your newlywed excitement fades, you’ll know where to find us,” said the older twin as she turned to leave.

“See you later, Sister Meng,” the younger twin added, blowing a kiss toward her.

The older one threw flirty glances over her shoulder as they swayed their hips and walked past Meng Chuwu.

Just then, they saw Xi Xiaoyan appear nearby.

Neither of them looked the least bit ashamed.

The younger sister clearly recognized her and giggled.

“Little one, come find us next time. You can play with Sister Meng too.”

After that, both of them burst into loud, piercing laughter.

Xi Xiaoyan’s face was still dripping with water, but she looked frozen in place. She completely ignored the twins and stared straight at Meng Chuwu from three meters away.

Meng Chuwu silently cursed to herself and quickly moved toward her.

“Xiaoyan, don’t listen to them. Let me explain.”

“You don’t need to explain anything, Sister Wu. I heard it all.”

The usual warmth in Xi Xiaoyan’s eyes was gone.

She knew those women were just part of Meng Chuwu’s past.

But knowing about the past and seeing it play out in front of her were two very different things.

While the twins casually joked about their history with her, Xi Xiaoyan clenched her fists tightly. She kept repeating to herself that Meng Chuwu had turned them down, again and again.

But she still felt awful. Every word the twins said was like a tiny needle poking her heart. It didn’t hurt deeply, but it left a sharp sting.

“It’s all in the past. Xiaoyan, please don’t let it get to you,” Meng Chuwu said. Looking at her like this, so hurt and vulnerable, made her wish she could go back in time and erase those foolish parts of Scumbag A’s history.

“I understand,” Xi Xiaoyan replied, cutting her off. She didn’t want to yell. She didn’t want to be angry. But for the first time, seeing Meng Chuwu up close did not bring her any joy. That realization broke her heart.

Being the one forced to carry someone else’s mistakes was overwhelming. Meng Chuwu saw her expression and felt completely helpless.

“Xiaoyan, I used to be—”

“I know,” Xi Xiaoyan said softly. She lowered her head and didn’t look at her again.

“I’ll get you a towel.” Meng Chuwu quickly turned, grabbed a fresh towel from under the umbrella, and hurried back.

Xi Xiaoyan hesitated before accepting it. After wiping her face dry, she said, “I want to go home.”

“Alright, let’s go home now.” Meng Chuwu didn’t even stop to inform Gong Xueyi or Ji Yi. She quickly followed behind Xi Xiaoyan.

As they walked toward the women’s changing area, Gong Xueyi appeared from the other direction.

“Miss Gong, we’re heading back,” Meng Chuwu said in a low voice.

“But you just got here,” Gong Xueyi replied, puzzled. But she noticed the look on Xi Xiaoyan’s face and instantly realized something was wrong. She added quickly, “Let’s talk later.”

Meng Chuwu gave a short reply and caught up with Xi Xiaoyan, who hadn’t slowed down.

Gong Xueyi headed back toward the pool, and when she saw the notorious twin sisters swimming and laughing loudly, she instantly understood what had happened.

Back at home, Xi Xiaoyan remained distant. She didn’t cling to Meng Chuwu. In fact, she barely said a word.

“Xiaoyan, if it would make you feel better, you can yell at me. Hit me if you want. Just please say something,” Meng Chuwu pleaded. The silence was crushing.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, Sister Wu. Why would I yell at you?” Xi Xiaoyan said quietly, staring at her sparkly pink fingernails and gently picking at them.

The air in the bedroom grew heavy. Meng Chuwu felt completely lost.

She had already apologized over and over on the way back.

But all Xi Xiaoyan kept saying was, “Don’t blame yourself. I don’t blame you, Sister Wu.”

Meng Chuwu thought to herself that it truly wasn’t her fault. The one to blame was the old Scumbag A and her reckless lifestyle.

“I’m tired. I want to sleep for a while.” Xi Xiaoyan meant it. She didn’t want to get upset, and she didn’t want to argue. But the truth was, she couldn’t stop herself from feeling angry.

Was this going to become a daily thing?

Yesterday it was one person. Today it was a pair. It completely ruined her mood.

Once or twice, she could ignore these kinds of people, but how many more were out there? And how long could she keep pretending it didn’t affect her?

What truly frightened Xi Xiaoyan was what the twin sisters had said earlier: “Once the excitement of being newlyweds fades.” She didn’t even want to imagine what might happen after that. Liao Xuehui and those twins were all fairly attractive, yet they still ended up as part of Meng Chuwu’s past.

Meng Chuwu was startled by the sudden shout. She quickly reached over to pull the blanket back.

“Xiaoyan, if something’s bothering you, talk to me. Don’t let your thoughts run wild and scare yourself for no reason.”

But Xi Xiaoyan clutched the blanket tightly and refused to let go.

“Sister Wu, let me calm down for a bit. I’ll be fine soon.”

Her voice came through the blanket, muffled and low.

Meng Chuwu paused, pulled her hand back for a moment, then reached out again, but stopped halfway in the air.

She sat quietly at the edge of the bed for a while. Xi Xiaoyan didn’t poke her head out the entire time. Eventually, Meng Chuwu stood up and said gently, “I’m going out for a moment. I’ll be right back. Don’t stay under the blanket too long. You’ll suffocate.”

After saying that, she took a few steps, then turned to glance at the bed. She did this two or three times, but Xi Xiaoyan never looked out.

Letting out a sigh, Meng Chuwu walked out of the bedroom.

It had truly been a frustrating and exhausting day.

Downstairs, Chao Zhi looked at her with concern.

“Is Miss Xi not feeling well?”

“Not really,” Meng Chuwu replied, looking out toward the front door. The garden outside was full of bright greenery and blooming flowers, the scene full of spring light, yet her usually striking eyes had lost their shine.

“Should I call Dr. Tang over to take a look?”

“It’s not physical. It’s her heart. No need to call,” she said as she stepped outside.

Chao Zhi watched her leave and sighed. She had already noticed something was wrong. The two of them had come home one after the other without speaking a word and had gone straight upstairs. Chao Zhi could guess what had happened. They were newly married, and already fighting once a day. How could someone as delicate as Xi Xiaoyan take so much emotional stress?

Meng Chuwu finally understood what Axi had meant when she said, “You are doomed.”

She walked over to the white flower-covered swing in the garden and sat down heavily. With a sense of resignation, she called out in her heart, “Axi, come out. I’m ready to sign the contract.”

If she didn’t sign soon, it felt like this second chance at life would soon be wasted.

A small meow answered her.

Athena appeared out of nowhere. Today, her tiny scarf was pink.

For the first time, Meng Chuwu noticed that not only were Axi’s nose and lips pink, but her droopy ears were a soft blush color too. If this cat were a person, she would probably be beautiful.

“Cut it out. Don’t get any funny ideas about me,” Athena snapped, clearly annoyed.

“It’s not like that,” Meng Chuwu said awkwardly. She had forgotten that Axi could read her thoughts if she was within ten meters.

“Are you sure you want to sign?”

“I’m sure.”
