After Becoming a Scummy Alpha, the Movie Queen Just Wants to Pamper Her Wife (LILY, ABO) - Chapter 5
“What’s going on?” Xi Xiaoyan’s eyes showed a flash of surprise. “Sister Wu, you’re the one involved, and you don’t know?”
Her voice was stiff, her tone laced with sarcasm, yet she still maintained outward courtesy and composure.
Meeting her dark, bright eyes, Meng Chuwu felt a pang of guilt under her gaze.
“I just woke up, didn’t I?” she replied casually, deliberately adopting a lighthearted tone to create a sense of intimacy, as if no one else in the room mattered.
At that moment, aside from Xi Xiaoyan and Liao Xuehui, Chen Lanying and another maid, Chi Qing, were standing by the window not far away. Xi Xiaoyan’s two bodyguards had also arrived after hearing the commotion. There was another unfamiliar face in the room, likely Liao Xuehui’s accomplice.
“I’ll leave it to you,” Xi Xiaoyan said, lowering her lashes before turning to Liao Xuehui. “If you really are pregnant with Sister Wu’s child, then we are both victims. You shouldn’t be yelling at me. I’ll let this go for Sister Wu’s sake, just this once.”
If? As if pregnancy was something you could lie about? Liao Xuehui was so angry she could explode on the spot. But remembering what just happened, she held back, afraid that Meng Chuwu would defend her newlywed wife.
She had focused her fire on Xi Xiaoyan earlier, thinking she was weak for not fighting back. Only now did she realize Xi Xiaoyan’s presence was just as formidable as Meng Chuwu’s.
Ignoring Xi Xiaoyan’s warning, Liao Xuehui looked pitifully at Meng Chuwu and spoke first, trying to gain sympathy.
“They wouldn’t let me see you, Sister Meng. I only made a scene because I had no choice.”
Meng Chuwu was still distracted by Xi Xiaoyan’s earlier words, “we are both victims,” and by the increasingly difficult Liao Xuehui.
“Miss Wu,” Chao Zhi called out quietly from the side.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Meng Chuwu looked at Xi Xiaoyan. “Wait for me at home. I’ll take her to the hospital first.”
Xi Xiaoyan immediately understood that she meant to confirm Liao Xuehui’s pregnancy before explaining things to her. She nodded in agreement.
But Liao Xuehui completely misunderstood.
She darted over to Meng Chuwu, grabbing her sleeve with both hands and shaking as she whined.
“No, Sister Meng, I don’t want to go to the hospital.” As soon as she spoke, tears streamed down her face.
“Why not?” Meng Chuwu was beginning to feel disgusted with her.
She was theatrical, manipulative, and wore too many faces.
Originally, she had felt some sympathy, thinking the girl had been mistreated by the original Alpha. But now, she just found her exhausting.
Xi Xiaoyan frowned slightly.
Meng Chuwu yanked her sleeve free.
Everyone was watching, waiting to hear why Liao Xuehui refused to go to the hospital.
“The child is innocent. I’ll never give it up.” She burst into dramatic sobs. “If Sister Meng doesn’t want the baby, I’ll raise it on my own. Please don’t take me to the hospital. The child is innocent. If Sister Meng doesn’t want to see us, I’ll disappear. I’ll never bother you again.”
From the original Alpha’s memories, Meng Chuwu recalled that whatever happened between her and Liao Xuehui had been over two months ago.
The original Alpha had never given her a permanent mark. Without one, pregnancy was nearly impossible—unless the Omega had used drugs beforehand to forcibly open the reproductive cavity.
Normally, an Omega’s reproductive cavity only opens after receiving a permanent mark from an Alpha. After differentiation, Omega bodies produce one or two embryonic cells each month. These are naturally expelled unless they come into contact with reproductive pheromones. Only then will the cells be activated, begin to develop, and potentially lead to birth.
There are rare cases where, even after a permanent mark, the cavity remains closed. To solve this, medical experts developed special drugs that forcibly open it, though not without causing physical harm.
The original Alpha, though promiscuous, was extremely cautious about giving permanent marks. She never gave one to any Omega. Her rule was always clear: physical attraction only, no emotional ties. Every breakup came with a generous parting gift, so no one had ever caused trouble.
Liao Xuehui had been her last partner before she started pursuing Xi Xiaoyan. The Alpha had made her terms clear and paid her off when they broke up. But now, after all this time, she showed up claiming to be pregnant. It was obvious that she had a plan from the start.
And now she had the nerve to cry that the child was innocent? Meng Chuwu could almost see through her entire act. Seeing how scheming she was and that she still insisted on putting on a show in front of everyone, Meng Chuwu no longer felt any need to be polite.
“Does going to the hospital automatically mean an abortion?” Her voice now carried a trace of impatience. “When did I ever say I didn’t want the child?”
As soon as she said that, the entire room fell silent. Several people gasped.
Especially Xi Xiaoyan’s bodyguards, Luo Pi and Luo Pa. If Xi Xiaoyan hadn’t stopped them with a frown and a firm look, the two trained Betas would have rushed forward to beat Meng Chuwu senseless.
“I thought… I thought you didn’t…” Liao Xuehui stammered.
Her accomplice quickly stepped up to wipe her tears and tugged her sleeve, signaling her to stop talking. Only then did she quiet down.
“Aunt Chao, have Zitai bring the car around.” Meng Chuwu then turned to Liao Xuehui. “Let’s go.”
Liao Xuehui lowered her head and continued to sob.
Before leaving, Meng Chuwu glanced back at Xi Xiaoyan, uneasy. She repeated, “Wait for me at home.”
Then she turned and walked outside.
Once they left, the living room was filled with silence.
“Miss Xi, are you alright?” Chao Zhi asked with concern. “I’ll make you some black tea.”
“Yes, please bring it to my room,” Xi Xiaoyan replied. She turned toward the staircase.
More than anger or disappointment, what Xi Xiaoyan felt was confusion. If Liao Xuehui truly was pregnant, she had no idea how she was supposed to face Meng Chuwu going forward.
Before marrying her, Xi Xiaoyan had known of her reputation. She was fully aware their marriage wouldn’t be peaceful. What she hadn’t expected was for trouble to come so quickly and so harshly, leaving her with no time to prepare.
To have something like this happen on the second day of marriage would definitely attract gossip and scandal. The media and online trolls loved this kind of drama. She could handle the rumors and headlines.
But what worried her were her parents and especially her older sister.
“Actresses are heartless. I told you Meng Chuwu couldn’t be trusted.”
“You just have to crash headfirst into the wall, don’t you? Are you trying to give Dad a heart attack?”
“Why can’t you be more like your sister and save us all the trouble?”
“Meng Chuwu will get tired of you soon. She’ll abandon you before you even realize it.”
“Sister, you’re far too naive. You actually believe it when she says she’ll give up an entire forest just for you?”
“What do you even have besides your face? Meng Chuwu shines from the inside out. Being with her will only get you hurt. Listen to your sister. It’s not too late to turn back.”
Those warnings from her family before she married Meng Chuwu kept coming back to her. Whenever something like this happened, those same words would be repeated over and over.
Thinking about it now gave Xi Xiaoyan a headache.
But deep down, she still believed in Meng Chuwu. She believed the words she had said and the promises she had made.
Technically, Liao Xuehui was part of her past. So far, Meng Chuwu hadn’t broken any vows.
In any case, she decided to wait until Meng Chuwu came back from the hospital before making any decisions.
Xi Xiaoyan couldn’t help but mock herself. “Even now, you still like her. You still trust her. You know getting close to her might burn you, yet you keep walking straight into the fire without hesitation.”
She opened her bedroom door and walked to the window. Picking up the remote, she pressed the button to draw the curtains open. The sunlight streamed in brightly. Standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows and looking down, she saw bees and butterflies dancing in the garden. Spring was in full bloom.
She wrapped her arms gently around her abdomen and stared out of the window, lost in thought.
A knock on the door interrupted her. It was Chao Zhi, bringing in the tea.
Xi Xiaoyan turned toward the door. “Come in.”
Normally, Chao Zhi wouldn’t bring the tea herself, but after everything that had just happened, she was worried and decided to come in person.
“Miss Xi, would you like some sugar?”
“No need. You can go ahead with your work. I’ll take care of it myself.”
Chao Zhi hesitated for a moment, looking into Xi Xiaoyan’s soft and intelligent eyes, then finally said what was on her mind.
“Actually, Miss Wu has changed a lot since meeting you.”
Xi Xiaoyan paused and decided to hear her out. “In what way?”
“Since the two of you got together, she’s been noticeably happier. Her whole demeanor has become brighter and more gentle. She doesn’t go out making new friends randomly anymore. She pays more attention to her work and to life in general.”
“Was she not like that before?” Xi Xiaoyan lowered her gaze slightly. It seemed all the rumors about Sister Wu being playful, fickle, and easily bored were true.
But the version of her that I’ve seen is bright, gentle, and devoted.
Still, how long have we even been together?
When she comes back from the hospital, will she still be the Meng Chuwu I thought I knew?
