After Becoming an Alpha, I Marked My Nemesis - Chapter 48
Song Luoxue frowned deeply at Zhou Qian’s words. She hadn’t expected Zhou Qian to still be thinking about the property notarization after all this time.
After a brief pause, Song Luoxue nestled into Zhou Qian’s arms, saying in a playful tone, “Of course it’s done. If you want to see the proof, I’ll have Mo Zhen bring it over right away.”
Zhou Qian sighed in relief, forcing a dry laugh. “I… I trust you, of course. Let’s look at it another day.”
Song Luoxue smiled again. “Why are you so eager about the property notarization? Are you thinking about marrying me?”
Zhou Qian’s eyes widened at this. She could only manage an awkward laugh. “Luo… Luoxue, what are you joking about? Didn’t we agree to get married when we’re both less busy?”
Song Luoxue pressed on, “Then what’s the point of all this?”
Zhou Qian was stumped by the question. After a long silence, she finally replied, “Not everything needs a point. Besides, I did this for your own good.”
Song Luoxue paused, startled by Zhou Qian’s words. Yes, not everything needs to have meaning. But every action must have its own purpose.
Zhou Qian claimed her purpose was for Song Luoxue’s own good. Could she trust those words?
Seeing Zhou Qian’s expression turn serious, Song Luoxue smiled and patted her back. “I was just teasing you earlier. Why are you taking it so seriously?”
Zhou Qian snapped out of her daze, forcing an awkward laugh. “Luo Xue, I’m not against us getting married. I just think we need to consider this more carefully…”
Before she could finish, Song Luoxue held up a hand. “Shh… I understand what you mean. You don’t need to explain. We can wait until both our careers are thriving before getting married. There’s no rush.”
Zhou Qian felt a surge of relief. It was rare for Song Luoxue to be so understanding.
On Saturday, Zhou Qian accompanied Song Luoxue to her class reunion. Zhou Qian had already finished filming all her scenes for the movie Dreaming of a Murder. Next week, she would be shooting promotional videos and attending press conferences, making her extremely busy. Fortunately, Song Luoxue’s reunion was this week, otherwise Zhou Qian wouldn’t have had time to come with her.
Tonight, Zhou Qian wore a black evening gown, while Song Luoxue wore a white one. Ever since their joint appearance at the Phoenix Perches on the Wutong Tree press conference, fans had dubbed their on-screen pairings “Black and White Moonlight.”
Both fanbases named their idols based on their character and achievements. Song Luoxue’s devoted fans often brought up Zhou Qian’s past scandals and her scenes of empty, tearful acting to contrast with Song Luoxue’s genuine talent. Zhou Qian used to be cunning, relishing in online feuds with various fan groups. When she and Song Luoxue stood together, their visual harmony was undeniable, but if forced to choose, one was the Black Moonlight stirring up storms, while the other remained the White Moonlight in the hearts of the nation.
Zhou Qian didn’t mind the nickname at all; after all, it was just a meaningless label.
Song Luoxue drove Zhou Qian to the hotel hosting the class reunion. As she parked the car, she began to grumble, “Honestly! If I’d known the reunion was at a place like this, I would have told Chu Ruobing I’d book the hotel. Then I wouldn’t have to wear a mask to a place like this.”
Sensing Song Luoxue’s simmering resentment, Zhou Qian reached out and gently stroked her back, as if soothing a ruffled kitten. “There, there, Great Actress Song. Don’t be angry. We can take off our masks once we’re in the private room.”
Song Luoxue had dressed up specially for the reunion, which showed she still cared about her classmates. Zhou Qian had also dressed up for the occasion.
Song Luoxue was genuinely pleased to see Zhou Qian in the dress. After all, who wouldn’t want their girlfriend to look stunning by their side? But why had she dressed so beautifully for her class reunion? Was she planning a secret rendezvous?
Even though Zhou Qian had repeatedly assured her she didn’t mean anything by it, Song Luoxue’s mind remained in turmoil. Deep down, she knew she only felt this way about someone she truly cared for.
As Zhou Qian and Song Luoxue entered the elevator, the other passengers cast strange glances at them. Zhou Qian immediately shielded Song Luoxue behind her. At that moment, Song Luoxue realized what Zhou Qian was thinking and swiftly stepped in front of her.
With a sharp, commanding presence, Song Luoxue glared at the surrounding people. Startled by her piercing gaze, they quickly averted their eyes. Simultaneously, Song Luoxue linked her arm through Zhou Qian’s and led them forward.
After exiting the elevator, Zhou Qian suddenly smiled at Song Luoxue. “Thank you!”
Song Luoxue paused, then smiled back. “You’re my girlfriend. Protecting you is only natural. What’s there to thank me for?”
Zhou Qian insisted, “Still, thank you.”
“Are you being so formal with me because we’re out in public today?”
Zhou Qian chuckled. “Maybe.”
Laughing and chatting, the two women arrived at the door of the private room where the class reunion was being held. As they approached, they overheard snippets of conversation:
“Hey, have you heard? Song Luoxue, that big star from our high school days, is coming to the reunion!”
While everyone else spoke of Song Luoxue with envious admiration, a discordant voice cut through the crowd: “Hmph, she’s just a second-rate actress. She dropped out of high school before graduating. Thinks she’s flown up the branch and become a phoenix, but her shallow knowledge still betrays her as a mere pheasant.”
“That’s her! That’s Yan Bingbing, the eldest daughter of the Yan Family. I heard she just graduated from S Polytechnic University abroad and is now managing the family business.”
Suddenly, someone couldn’t stand it any longer and stepped in front of Yan Bingbing: “Hey! What’s with your attitude? You’re supposed to be an educated person who studied abroad. Why are you being so bitter and mean-spirited?”
Yan Bingbing didn’t even deign to look at the person directly. She simply tilted her head and smiled: “Don’t say that. Being bitter and mean-spirited is one of my strengths.”
“Is that so? But I only know that such sharp-tongued and bitter remarks come from idle gossips who have nothing better to do all day,” Zhou Qian said, linking arms with Song Luoxue as they walked through the private room’s door.
Several of Song Luoxue’s high school classmates still remembered what she looked like. They had been blind to her presence back then, never truly noticing her when she was right in front of them. Afterward, they could only catch glimpses of her on television. Now, seeing her in person was something most ordinary people could only dream of.
Song Luoxue stood calmly beside Zhou Qian, showing no anger. She simply smiled and said, “My apologies, I am indeed that third-rate actress with nothing but air between her ears.”
“Ahhh—it’s Song Luoxue! It’s really you! I heard you might come to the reunion, but I thought it was just a rumor. I can’t believe it’s true!”
“Can I get your autograph? I’m such a huge fan!”
Song Luoxue smiled. “Of course.”
Before Song Luoxue’s arrival, Yan Bingbing had been the center of attention, basking in everyone’s admiration. But the moment Song Luoxue entered, the crowd that had been fawning over Yan Bingbing immediately swarmed around Song Luoxue instead.
When Yan Bingbing saw her former classmates greeting Song Luoxue warmly while ignoring her completely, a sudden surge of anger ignited within her. Though furious, she couldn’t lose her composure in front of the others.
Forcing a friendly smile, Yan Bingbing approached Zhou Qian and Song Luoxue. “I apologize for what I said earlier. I didn’t mean it.”
Before she could finish, Zhou Qian replied with a smile, “No need to apologize. I meant every word I said.”
Yan Bingbing’s warm gesture was met with cold indifference, her face darkening instantly.
As Zhou Qian and Yan Bingbing exchanged words, someone called out from behind, “Miss Zhou, Song Luoxue, you’re already here?”
Zhou Qian turned to see Chu Ruobing. His eyes widened at the sight of her outfit. Song Luoxue, standing beside Zhou Qian, felt a pang of annoyance at Chu Ruobing’s reaction. She stepped forward, blocking his view. “Long time no see.”
Chu Ruobing snapped out of his daze. “Yes… yes, it has been a while,” he stammered, forcing a smile.
Chu Ruobing noticed Yan Bingbing standing nearby and quickly introduced them. “Bingbing, let me introduce you. This is Zhou Qian, a friend of Song Luoxue.”
At the banquet, a woman who heard the name “Zhou Qian” sprang up from her seat like a coiled spring and rushed to the door. “Zhou Qian! Is it the Zhou Qian…?”
Before she could finish, she saw Zhou Qian standing nearby in a black dress. Only then did she gasp in shock, “Qianqian! I’m your fan!”
Zhou Qian frowned at the commotion, while Chu Ruobing intervened, “Li Wei, that’s incredibly rude!”
Li Wei immediately composed herself, though she couldn’t hide her excitement. “I heard our big star was coming today, but I never imagined she’d bring her girlfriend too!”
“Li Wei!” Chu Ruobing warned again.
Hearing Chu Ruobing’s tone, Li Wei quickly turned to Zhou Qian. “Hello, let me introduce myself. I’m Li Wei, Song Luoxue’s classmate from high school.”
Zhou Qian glanced sideways at Song Luoxue, who now looked somewhat displeased. She couldn’t understand why Song Luoxue’s expression had darkened so suddenly.
Perhaps she’s just overwhelmed by all this “enthusiasm” from her classmates and feeling stage fright?
