Chapter 41: The Feeling of Being Controlled Seemed Kind of Okay…
In Jiang Xianzhi’s room, she and Zhou Yining each ate a big piece of cake. Zhou Yining felt it was a bit too sweet and prepared to go downstairs for water, but Jiang Xianzhi stopped her.
“Wait, you don’t need to go down. Let them bring it up. What do you want to drink? Juice, milk, or water?” Jiang Xianzhi held Zhou Yining, who was beside her, and asked.
“Warm water, I guess. It’s late, so I won’t drink anything else.” Zhou Yining saw the little fox wouldn’t let her go, so she gave up.
“Then I’ll have milk,” Jiang Xianzhi said. She called downstairs, and soon someone brought the milk and water.
Zhou Yining opened the door to get the items and handed the cake to the maid, asking her to put it in the fridge.
After doing this, Zhou Yining placed the milk in front of Jiang Xianzhi. “Here’s your milk. Drink it.”
“Hmm, thanks,” Jiang Xianzhi said gratefully, but her eyes fell on the gift bag. She had previously refused Zhou Yining’s gift and told her to give it to Zhong Yumeng, but luckily, the gift was still there.
She casually asked, “What’s in that bag?”
Zhou Yining smiled, knowing exactly what the little fox was thinking. She stood up, grabbed the bag, and took out a box from it.
“It’s your birthday gift, but it’s not anything expensive. Open it and see,” Zhou Yining said, pushing the box toward Jiang Xianzhi.
Jiang Xianzhi opened the box and took out a bright red little fox. The fox had thick fur and big eyes, looking extremely cute.
Zhou Yining smiled and reminded her, “Check what’s written under the little fox.”
Jiang Xianzhi turned the fox upside down and saw her name written on its base.
“I made this little fox myself, colored it myself, and carved the words on it too,” Zhou Yining said with a smile.
Because it was fired, the little fox had a smooth glaze, making it look very cute.
Jiang Xianzhi’s eyes lit up. “I love it. It’s so cute, and you made it yourself.”
Thinking this, Jiang Xianzhi couldn’t hide her smile. But remembering Zhou Yining liked to flirt with pretty girls, she restrained her expression and asked, “Have you given this to other girls?”
Zhou Yining laughed and explained, “No, I only made it for you. I’ll only make it for you in the future, okay?”
“Hmm, that’s more like it,” Jiang Xianzhi said proudly, examining the little fox closely.
She noticed Zhou Yining had even shaped the fox’s tiny paws and painted them pink, making it even cuter. Jiang Xianzhi decided to place the little fox in the most prominent spot in her room, as it was the first gift Zhou Yining gave her.
It was already ten-thirty. Zhou Yining sent a message to Zhao Xiuna, saying she was staying at a classmate’s house and wouldn’t return.
Zhou Yining glanced at Jiang Xianzhi, who was still holding the little fox fondly. She smiled and said, “It’s ten-thirty. We have school tomorrow morning, so we should shower and rest.”
“Hmm, I’ll get you a sleep dress. You’re sleeping with me tonight,” Jiang Xianzhi said, as if afraid Zhou Yining might change her mind. She quickly grabbed a new sleep dress and new underwear from her closet and stuffed them into Zhou Yining’s arms.
“You shower first. I’ll go after you. You can use anything in my bathroom,” the young lady said generously, wanting to share her best things with Zhou Yining.
“Okay, I’ll go. Wait for me nicely,” Zhou Yining said, finding her cute. Unable to resist, she ruffled Jiang Xianzhi’s hair before heading to the bathroom.
Jiang Xianzhi’s lips curved slightly. She obediently finished her milk, then flopped onto the bed, rolling a few times. She thought she needed Zhou Yining to hold her while sleeping.
Hugging the blanket, she hummed and rolled on the bed a couple more times. As if remembering something, Jiang Xianzhi got up and placed the little fox figurine in the center of her room’s shelf, so anyone entering would see it immediately.
Thinking this, Jiang Xianzhi felt as sweet as if honey coated her heart.
Soon, the sound of water came from the bathroom. Zhou Yining washed her hair, quickly rinsed her body, applied body wash, and then rinsed off. She changed into the sleep dress and came out.
Zhou Yining looked around the bathroom but couldn’t find a hairdryer, so she went out to ask Jiang Xianzhi.
“Zhizhi? Where’s your hairdryer? I need to use it.”
Jiang Xianzhi saw Zhou Yining come out, and her eyes lit up immediately. Zhou Yining’s sleep dress matched hers, but hers was white, while Zhou Yining’s was black.
Since it was a sleeveless dress, Zhou Yining’s fair skin at her chest was faintly visible. Water droplets dripped from her hair onto her shoulders and neck. Jiang Xianzhi couldn’t take her eyes off her.
Seeing Jiang Xianzhi staring blankly, Zhou Yining called again, “Zhizhi? Help me find the hairdryer. My sleep dress is getting wet.”
“Oh, oh, coming,” Jiang Xianzhi said, her ears turning red. Luckily, Zhou Yining didn’t notice where she was looking.
Feeling a bit guilty, she rubbed her red ears and quickly went to the bathroom, pulling the hairdryer from a cabinet below. “Here, plug it in over there.”
Zhou Yining took the hairdryer, plugged it in, and started drying her hair. She reminded Jiang Xianzhi, “You should shower too. It’s almost eleven. We need to rest soon.”
“Hmm, I’m going in too,” Jiang Xianzhi said, heading to the bathroom to shower.
Zhou Yining dried her hair for a while, then waited for Jiang Xianzhi outside.
She wandered around the room, then lay on the bed. The young lady’s bed was so comfortable, much better than her own small, worn-out single bed. Lying down felt like sinking into marshmallows.
Zhou Yining lay on the soft pillow, almost falling asleep. Wanting to wait for Jiang Xianzhi to sleep together, she didn’t dare rest her head fully. Instead, she leaned against the headboard and played with her phone.
Zhou Yining opened her phone and saw seven or eight messages from Zhao Xiuna, plus several missed calls.
She had silenced her phone earlier. Now, she called back. As soon as the call connected, she heard Zhao Xiuna’s furious voice.
“Where the hell are you? I didn’t say anything when you didn’t come home all day, but now you’re not even coming back at night? Is it true, like your little brother said? Are you hooking up with some shady guy from school?”
Zhou Yining held the phone away until Zhao Xiuna finished. Then she brought it back to her ear. “I told you, I’m at a classmate’s house. It’s a girl. It’s her birthday today, and it’s too late to go back now.”
“Who knows if you’re telling the truth? Where are you? Take a taxi home now.”
“I can’t go back. Go to bed early,” Zhou Yining said, hanging up. Zhao Xiuna didn’t want to believe her, and there was no point in arguing further. It would just be meaningless chatter, so she ended it early.
To avoid more calls from Zhao Xiuna, Zhou Yining blocked her number. Then she opened WeChat and saw Zhong Yumeng had messaged her.
Zhou Yining clicked on Zhong Yumeng’s profile and saw messages from an hour ago.
Zhong Yumeng: [The banquet’s over. Jiang Xianzhi didn’t seem in high spirits. Is she still mad?]
Zhong Yumeng: [Also, she looked at me weirdly today. Is she really jealous of you? (laughing hard jpg)]
Zhong Yumeng: [But seriously, should you call and cheer her up? Her smile tonight was so forced.]
Zhong Yumeng: [What are you doing? Why aren’t you replying?]
Zhou Yining’s lips curved slightly as she typed.
Zhou Yining: [I’ve already cheered her up. I’m at Zhizhi’s house.]
Zhong Yumeng replied almost instantly.
Zhong Yumeng: [Shocked! You got in that fast?]
Zhou Yining: [What’s that supposed to mean? Am I a spy infiltrating or something?]
Zhong Yumeng: [Lol, but it’s past eleven. Aren’t you going home?]
Zhou Yining: [Not going back. Staying here with her tonight. Rest early. (dog waving jpg)]
Zhong Yumeng: [Okay, you sleep early too. (bunny lying down jpg)]
Right after chatting with Zhong Yumeng, Jiang Xianzhi came out of the bathroom. Seeing Zhou Yining smiling at her phone, she asked, “What are you doing?”
“Nothing, just replied to a friend’s messages,” Zhou Yining said, putting her phone away. She smiled at Jiang Xianzhi and changed the subject. “Your hair looks pretty loose like that.”
Jiang Xianzhi’s lips curved at the compliment, but she soon sensed something off. Zhou Yining was dodging the topic!
“Replying to which friend?” Jiang Xianzhi asked, walking toward the bed.
Zhou Yining didn’t want to lie, so she said honestly, “I talked to Zhong Yumeng a bit. Let’s not talk about her. It’s almost eleven-thirty, and I’m tired. Let’s sleep.”
Zhou Yining tossed her phone aside, burrowed into the blankets, and looked ready to sleep obediently.
Jiang Xianzhi climbed onto the bed, puffed up with annoyance, pulled the blanket off, and grabbed Zhou Yining’s wrist. “What did you guys talk about?”
Zhou Yining held Jiang Xianzhi’s wrist back. “Nothing much, just a casual chat. Be good, let’s rest.”
With that, Zhou Yining pulled Jiang Xianzhi into her arms, her hands resting on Jiang Xianzhi’s lower back.
Jiang Xianzhi’s lips curved slightly, but she was still unhappy because Zhou Yining didn’t clarify what they talked about. “No, you have to tell me what you chatted about.”
Jiang Xianzhi buried her face in Zhou Yining’s shoulder, rubbing lightly, occasionally sniffing Zhou Yining’s scent with her nose. They used the same body wash, but Jiang Xianzhi thought Zhou Yining smelled better.
Seeing the young lady’s persistence, Zhou Yining grabbed her phone, opened her chat with Zhong Yumeng, and handed it to Jiang Xianzhi. “Here, look for yourself.”
Jiang Xianzhi lifted her head from Zhou Yining’s arms, looking into her eyes cautiously. “You’re really letting me look? Don’t regret it.”
Zhou Yining laughed and nodded. “Hmm, so a certain little fox doesn’t get jealous again tonight. It took me so long to cheer you up.”
Jiang Xianzhi’s ears burned red at her words. She rubbed against Zhou Yining, acting coy, and took the phone. Her fingers quickly scrolled through the screen, skimming Zhou Yining and Zhong Yumeng’s chat.
They talked about a lot, but the conversation was normal—just friends chatting. Zhong Yumeng even urged Zhou Yining to cheer her up.
But why did Zhou Yining send Zhong Yumeng a dog emoji? Shouldn’t dog emojis be just for her?
Jiang Xianzhi proudly looked up at Zhou Yining and commented on their chat. “The chat content’s fine, but you’re not allowed to send her dog emojis.”
Zhou Yining burst out laughing. Looking at the little fox in her arms, her eyes softened, and she said gently, “Okay, I’ll only send dog emojis to you from now on, alright?”
“Hmm,” the young lady said, seemingly satisfied. She raised an eyebrow and smiled at Zhou Yining, then snuggled back into her arms, happily rubbing against her.
Zhou Yining’s eyes lowered, looking at Jiang Xianzhi in her arms. She suddenly felt that the feeling of being controlled seemed kind of okay.
