Chapter 59: I Don’t Accept Apologies
“Okay, since Zhou Yining doesn’t accept apologies, we have a duty to help her obtain your information for her to file a lawsuit. Of course, you two can also hire lawyers, but that’s for later.” The female police officer said this and asked her colleague to get Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun’s basic information from the lead teacher.
The female police officer had Zhou Yining record Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun’s personal information. Then she said, “Our response to this incident is complete. If you want to pursue legal action later, you need to hire a lawyer yourself.”
“Hmm, I know.” Zhou Yining nodded and replied.
The female police officer looked at Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun. “Trouble comes from the mouth. You two better think before you speak in the future. Some words may seem harmless to you, but they can hurt others.”
“I know I was wrong, officer.” Guo Ziheng quickly said.
“Yes, yes, we’ll definitely be careful with our words in the future.” Li Shangkun also quickly said.
The two police officers soon left. The head official in charge of this training came over and called the lead male teacher, asking Zhou Yining and the other two to come over.
The male teacher looked at the three. “Let’s go. The deputy director of the city education bureau is here and wants you three to come over. It’s only the first day of training, and you’ve already caused such a big mess. I’m really done.”
Zhou Yining glanced at the other two. “Indeed, people without a sense of proportion cause trouble wherever they go.”
The lead teacher felt frustrated inside. Wait, didn’t you call the police? And now you’re acting like you’re innocent?
He didn’t say this out loud and silently led the way. Soon, he brought them to an office at the end of the corridor.
“Director Liu, we’re here.” The male teacher knocked on the door and then led Zhou Yining and the others into the office.
A middle-aged man in his forties sat in the office. He looked coldly at Zhou Yining and the others. “So, you’re the ones causing trouble on the first day?”
“No, to be precise, those two caused trouble. I’m just the victim of verbal insults.” Zhou Yining looked straight at the man without avoiding his gaze.
Director Liu looked at Zhou Yining. He stared at her for a long time. Her eyes didn’t waver, and Director Liu realized this girl was tough.
“Even if you’re the victim, you should’ve talked to the lead teacher first. Why were you so impulsive? Calling the police over such a small matter? Don’t you know it’s the first day of training? Do you still want to train?”
Zhou Yining looked at the deputy director nearby and calmly said, “First, I did go to the lead teacher. I didn’t want to call the police at first. I just wanted their personal information to hire a lawyer for a lawsuit. But the lead teacher didn’t give it to me. Then I told him I could only get Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun’s information by calling the police. He told me to go ahead and call, so I did. That’s what happened. I recorded the whole thing. If you don’t believe me, I can play it for you.”
Director Liu’s face darkened alarmingly. He glared at the lead teacher.
The lead male teacher panicked and quickly explained, “No, Director Liu, who would’ve thought she’d actually call the police? That wasn’t my intention.”
“Your ability to handle situations is too poor. It seems you need more grassroots experience.”
Director Liu finished and looked at Zhou Yining again. “So, is this matter settled? Don’t cause me more trouble.”
“It’s not settled. I’ve already hired a lawyer. I’ll sue them later. They insulted my dignity. I don’t accept their apologies.” Zhou Yining said frankly.
Director Liu’s brow furrowed tighter. Seeing Zhou Yining’s stubborn temperament, he didn’t dare kick her out directly. He softened his tone and advised, “Fine, hiring a lawyer to defend your rights is your freedom. Just don’t cause more trouble later.”
“Your words are wrong. Whether trouble happens later depends on whether someone provokes me. If no one provokes me, I’m here to study properly. But if someone insists on provoking me, I’ll have to use legal weapons to fight back.” Zhou Yining said calmly.
Seeing she wouldn’t budge, Director Liu sternly looked at Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun. “You two are supposed to be good students? With such poor moral quality, casually badmouthing a female classmate? You deserve this for messing with a tough one. Learn your lesson. If I hear of anything like this from you two again, get out. Got it?”
“Got it, got it.” Guo Ziheng quickly replied.
“I know I was wrong.” Li Shangkun also quickly said.
“Xiao Zhao, inform their schools’ leaders. They need proper education when they return. Nanchuan City wants students excellent in both character and academics. Those who don’t meet moral standards need serious education after school starts.” Director Liu instructed from his seat.
“Okay, I’ll make the call later.” The lead male teacher quickly replied.
Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun were filled with regret. Because of their careless words, they caused this mess, and now their school leaders would be informed. It was so embarrassing. And judging by Zhou Yining’s attitude, she was really going to sue them. They’d need lawyers and have to go through their parents. Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun just wanted to cry.
“Alright, go. Focus on the training and stop causing trouble.”
Zhou Yining turned, opened the office door, and left. Guo Ziheng and Li Shangkun quickly followed.
Guo Ziheng gave Li Shangkun a look, and they hurried to catch up with Zhou Yining.
“Zhou Yining, we’re sorry. Can you not hire a lawyer? You heard them. They’ll inform our schools, and we’ll be punished. Can you let us off this time?” Guo Ziheng said.
“Yeah, yeah, I apologize. I’m sorry. It was my big mouth. Don’t be mad.” Li Shangkun also pleaded.
Zhou Yining looked coldly at them. “I already stated my stance. I don’t accept. Also, don’t block my way.”
With that, Zhou Yining walked past them and headed to the dormitory.
Fu Yuanke saw her return and quickly asked, “How did it go? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. The police came to mediate and asked them to apologize. I didn’t accept. I’ll have my lawyer file a lawsuit later.” Zhou Yining said calmly.
“That’s good. Now no one should dare talk nonsense about this.” Fu Yuanke felt relieved.
Zhou Yining nodded. She pushed her suitcase inside and sent all the evidence to Jiang Xianzhi. Jiang Xianzhi had already found her a lawyer.
Zhou Yining finished making her bed and sat on the chair below, looking at Jiang Xianzhi’s reply.
Jiang Xianzhi: [The lawyer is ready. Don’t worry. The lawyer’s letter will probably be sent to them tomorrow. You don’t need to handle the rest. I’ll keep an eye on it. I’m also having someone check the surveillance. Just focus on your training there.]
Zhou Yining’s expression softened when she saw Jiang Xianzhi’s message. She hated troubling others, but this time she had no choice but to rely on the young lady’s help.
There was no training this morning. They had everyone come early to familiarize themselves with the environment and settle into the dorms. The formal training would start at 2 p.m.
The bedding here was provided, but they needed to put on the newly issued sheets and covers themselves.
Zhou Yining got up and started tidying. She spread the sheet and put the blanket in a new cover, arranging the bed neatly before climbing down.
After a busy morning, it was already past 11. Zhou Yining and Fu Yuanke took their thermoses to get water. The dorm had ready thermoses, one for each person.
The other two people in the dorm clearly didn’t want to interact with Zhou Yining. She didn’t care at all. They were strangers, and the training was only for seven days.
She and Fu Yuanke got water and returned, then went straight to the cafeteria. The lunch was buffet-style. You could take what you wanted, but chicken legs and eggs were limited to one per person.
When Zhou Yining entered the cafeteria, the people there briefly quieted. Soon, everyone looked away and went to get their food. No one dared to gossip about Zhou Yining anymore. After all, she was tough and would really call the police or hire a lawyer if provoked.
She and Fu Yuanke found a spot to sit. Zhou Yining ate her noodles happily. She peeled her egg and put it in the noodle bowl to eat together.
Zhang Ye came over then. He saw most tables were full, and he didn’t know anyone here. Finally, he sat at Zhou Yining’s table.
“Is this seat taken? I’ll sit here.” Zhang Ye looked at Zhou Yining and said.
“Do as you like.” Zhou Yining glanced at him, quickly looked away, and continued eating her food.
Some people around偷looked at them, but because of the morning’s events, no one dared to gossip loudly, fearing they’d provoke Zhou Yining again.
“Look, Zhang Ye and Zhou Yining are at the same table.”
“Didn’t they almost argue on the bus earlier?”
“Yeah, I don’t get it.”
“Shh, keep it down. That Zhou Yining isn’t someone to mess with. Let’s talk about something else.”
“Yeah, yeah, something else.”
While eating, Zhang Ye occasionally looked at Zhou Yining. It had been so long since the love letter incident that he almost forgot she liked him. But now, it seemed Zhou Yining had no such feelings for him.
He’d been sitting there for a while, and she didn’t even glance at him. This annoyed Zhang Ye. He was the school heartthrob, after all.
“Zhou Yining, how are you handling that matter?”
“Which matter?” Zhou Yining asked back.
“The love letter thing. What else could it be?”
“I’ve had someone look into it. We’ve narrowed it down to three suspects. This person posted again, so they’ll slip up soon. We might have results in a day or two.” Zhou Yining said calmly.
“That’s good. By the way, how do you know Zhong Yumeng?” Zhang Ye continued to make conversation.
Zhou Yining looked at him. “No need to force a topic. We don’t have much to talk about.”
With that, Zhou Yining ignored him and focused on eating her chicken leg.
