Chapter 65: Zhou Yining, See You in a Few Days…
Chen Yitong’s gaze shifted to Zhou Yining, then to Tian Xue. She opened her mouth and asked Tian Xue, “Did you post Zhou Yining’s love letter on the confession wall?”
Tian Xue calmly looked at her and said, “Yes, so what?”
Chen Yitong felt a lump in her throat, almost choked by Tian Xue’s words. After a long pause, Chen Yitong asked, “Aren’t you two best friends?”
“Yes, I did this to strengthen our friendship. The more others dislike her, the more she relies on me as her friend. I hate how she is now,” Tian Xue said, looking like she had given up pretending, her words blunt and unfiltered.
Chen Yitong shook her head, her face full of disbelief. In her memory, Tian Xue was always an honest girl, quiet, not fond of talking or causing trouble in class, a very introverted girl. How could she be like this now?
Chen Yitong looked at Zhou Yining again. She knew Zhou Yining and Tian Xue were close. Now that Zhou Yining was betrayed by her best friend, Chen Yitong worried something might happen to her. She hurriedly said, “Yining, are you okay? You’re fine, right?”
Zhou Yining shook her head and said, “I’m fine. Sorry for troubling you, teacher. You came here during the holiday because of my issue.”
Chen Yitong shook her head at her and said, “I had nothing to do at home during the holiday anyway. The confession wall issue is resolved, so I’m relieved.”
Ten minutes later, Tian Xue’s father, Tian Jiang, stormed into the police station, furious. Without a word, he saw Tian Xue, walked up, and slapped her. A police officer quickly stopped him.
“Sir, what are you doing? This is a police station, not a place for you to act recklessly.”
“She’s my daughter. She caused trouble, so I should beat her to death,” Tian Jiang said, not caring about the situation. He hadn’t wanted to come in the first place.
Tian Xue, slapped, stood there expressionless, as if she was used to such things.
Tian Jiang, seeing her like this, grew angrier and pointed at her, saying, “Tell me, what’s the point of you living? Why didn’t your mother take you with her when she died? Look at you now, just like your dead mother.”
Tian Xue’s face darkened suddenly. She rushed at Tian Jiang like a madwoman, pushing and shoving him, shouting, “Don’t talk about my mother! What right do you have to talk about my mother?”
Tian Xue scratched at Tian Jiang like a lunatic. In moments, his face had two or three bloody scratches. Several police officers rushed forward to pull them apart.
“Both of you, calm down! This is a police station, not a place for your nonsense!”
Tian Xue and Tian Jiang were each restrained by two officers. After a while, they regained their composure.
Tian Jiang’s chest heaved as he said, “You all saw it. She’s a lunatic. It’s no surprise she did something like this. Detain her, sentence her, do whatever you want. If there’s nothing else, can I leave?”
The male officer in charge frowned and said, “No, you still have a six-thousand-yuan fine to pay now.”
Tian Jiang exploded at this, waving his hand and shouting, “I have no money. You can lock her up however you want. She’s a useless waste anyway. As for the money, I’m not paying.”
The male officer frowned and said, “Your daughter is a minor. As a parent, you have a duty to supervise her, so you are obligated to pay her fine. If you don’t, we will take forceful measures, collect it at your home, or at your workplace.”
Tian Jiang, hearing this, gritted his teeth and said, “How do I pay? What bad luck. How did I end up with such a troublesome daughter?”
“Go get the cash now, then come back and fill out a form,” the male officer said.
“What a hassle,” Tian Jiang said, his temper flaring. He cursed several times as he left.
Zhou Yining’s gaze turned to Tian Xue. The side of Tian Xue’s face that was slapped had swollen. Zhou Yining now understood what Tian Xue meant earlier. It turned out Tian Xue’s family was also unhappy.
But Zhou Yining felt no sympathy for Tian Xue. The misfortune Tian Xue’s family caused her shouldn’t be taken out on an innocent person like Zhou Yining’s original self.
The office fell silent for a moment. Several officers sorted out the records. The male officer in charge looked at Zhou Yining and said, “You can leave after collecting the fine. As for Tian Xue, she will be detained for fifteen days.”
Then he looked at Chen Yitong and said, “You’re their teacher, right? You should understand the situation. Your school can decide how to handle Tian Xue later. We’ll close the case here soon.”
“Okay, thank you, officer,” Chen Yitong said politely.
“No problem,” the officer said, sending his colleagues back. Twenty minutes later, Tian Jiang returned reluctantly with a small stack of cash.
He looked at Zhou Yining, handed over the money unwillingly, and said, “Officer, I paid the fine. Can I go now?”
“Wait a moment. We need to count the money clearly. Zhou, we have a money counter here. Verify it’s correct and sign this paper,” the officer said.
Zhou Yining nodded, took the money to the counter, confirmed the amount was correct, and signed the paper.
“Alright, you can go. We’ll detain Tian Xue directly,” the male officer said.
“Okay, thank you,” Zhou Yining said. She and Jiang Xianzhi prepared to leave. Before leaving, Zhou Yining felt a sticky gaze on her.
She turned and saw Tian Xue staring at her, smiling, and saying, “Zhou Yining, see you in a few days.”
Zhou Yining stared back at her intensely, then looked away after a moment. Being targeted by someone so vicious was no good thing, but Zhou Yining wasn’t afraid of her.
After leaving, Zhou Yining’s mood was low. Jiang Xianzhi, seeing her down, comforted her, saying, “Let’s go back. Don’t do homework today. You’re too tired. Rest well for a day, okay?”
Zhou Yining nodded and said, “Hmm.”
They took a car back to the Villa District. As Jiang Xianzhi said, Zhou Yining was exhausted. She showered and went to bed. Jiang Xianzhi stayed by her side.
Zhou Yining slept until after seven in the evening. It was already dark. When she opened her eyes, she saw Jiang Xianzhi playing on her phone, keeping her company.
Seeing her awake, Jiang Xianzhi leaned over and asked, “Feeling better?”
Zhou Yining smiled, nodded, and pulled Jiang Xianzhi into her arms, hugging her. When near Jiang Xianzhi, Zhou Yining felt at ease, far more than at her original home.
“She treated you like that. It’s her loss. You still have me. Don’t think about those unhappy things,” Jiang Xianzhi said, feeling sorry for Zhou Yining. Being stabbed in the back by a friend would hurt anyone.
“Okay, this matter is over. They fined her anyway,” Zhou Yining said.
“Hmm, but I feel she’s so sinister. What if she tries to harm you after getting out?” Jiang Xianzhi worried most about this. After thinking, she added, “Why don’t you move in with me?”
Zhou Yining smiled, shook her head, and said, “No need. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I have a lot to do. It’s inconvenient to stay here all the time. I’ll go back tomorrow.”
“Leaving so soon? Why go back?” Jiang Xianzhi didn’t want Zhou Yining to leave. She wanted Zhou Yining to stay with her all holiday.
“I have a lot to do. Staying here, I just want to hug you and sleep all day,” Zhou Yining joked. But the soft, fragrant young lady was indeed comfortable to hold.
“Fine,” Jiang Xianzhi said. Though she didn’t want Zhou Yining to leave, thinking about recent events, she felt sorry for her. If Zhou Yining didn’t want to stay, she wouldn’t force her.
The next morning, Zhou Yining left Jiang Xianzhi’s house. She deposited the six thousand yuan in cash into her bank card, then went to the mall and bought a four-thousand-yuan business laptop. At home, she often lacked a computer, which was inconvenient. Now that she had some money, she definitely needed to buy one. After buying the laptop, Zhou Yining’s total savings were just over three thousand yuan.
She still owed Chen Yitong’s lawyer fees and Jiang Xianzhi’s side. This time, for her training and suing two people, she also needed to pay lawyer fees. Zhou Yining wouldn’t let others pay for her. She needed to start writing her novel soon.
When Zhou Yining returned home with the laptop, Zhao Xiuna and Zhou Jiaming were there. Zhao Xiuna saw her carrying a computer bag and asked, “Yining, where did you get that computer?”
“Borrowed it from a friend. You guys wouldn’t buy me one,” Zhou Yining said sarcastically, heading straight to the small dining room.
Zhao Xiuna tried to explain, “It’s not that we won’t buy you one. Your little brother has one in his room, doesn’t he? His computer cost over seven thousand yuan, very expensive. If you want to use it, just tell him.”
“Don’t talk to me about it. Borrowing from her friend is fine. Don’t touch my stuff,” Zhou Jiaming retorted.
Zhou Yining sneered and said, “You’re right. Don’t touch my stuff either. I think you’re dirty.”
“Zhou Yining, you shouldn’t have come back. Every time you do, something bad happens at home,” Zhou Jiaming continued.
“You think I want to come back? I didn’t want to stay here long ago,” Zhou Yining said coldly while packing her things.
Zhao Xiuna hurried to smooth things over, saying, “Yining, don’t talk nonsense. This is your home. Where would you go if not here? Don’t argue with your little brother. He’s young and doesn’t know better.”
“He’s young? He’s as big as a donkey. Stop making excuses for him,” Zhou Yining said impatiently.
In this home atmosphere, writing a novel was impossible. She took out her ID card, grabbed her laptop, and prepared to leave.
Zhao Xiuna quickly asked, “Where are you going now? You just got back.”
“It’s too noisy at home. It affects my studying. I’m going to the library,” Zhou Yining said. Near her original home was Nanchuan City’s library, with seats and charging spots. She could enter with her ID card and choose a seat.
Zhou Yining felt it would be quieter to write there. She carried her laptop, walked for about fifteen minutes, and arrived. She quickly chose a seat and went upstairs. After sitting down, she charged her computer and started writing.
She had already written outlines for the first few story arcs. Now she could write directly from them.
They would start senior year after the break, so this holiday was short. Zhou Yining had attended a week of training and spent a few days with Jiang Xianzhi. With less than half a month left, she had to attend a competition on the 25th and reserve three days for homework. That left her only ten days to write.
Zhou Yining calculated that, with effort, writing a hundred thousand words in ten days was achievable.
