After Becoming the Abused Heroine in a Campus Story - Chapter 73: Invitation
Chapter 73: Invitation
Zhou Yining woke up early in the morning. She got out of bed slowly, tidied up, and went downstairs to find a stall to eat breakfast.
Her place was right next to the school, so going to and from school was very convenient.
Zhou Yining ordered a fried dough stick and a bowl of fried tofu. She put a big spoonful of chili in the tofu and ate it with the dough stick.
During breakfast, she met a few classmates from her class. They sat together at a table, eating breakfast and feeling very happy.
During morning self-study, Chen Yitong came to the classroom. She watched the students read for a while and then asked everyone to quiet down.
“This Saturday, the school will hold a sports meet. Since you’re all in senior year, you won’t participate in the formation parade. You’ll just join the competitions. On Saturday morning, the first and second years will do the formation parade judging. You’ll stay here and attend classes as usual. In the afternoon, the competitions will start. Those who want to participate can sign up with the sports committee after class. Those who don’t want to compete can go to the spectator stands to watch,” Chen Yitong said with a smile.
“Woo-hoo! Great, we finally get some time to relax.”
“But why do we still have classes in the morning? That’s too harsh.”
“What are you thinking? Getting the afternoon off is already good. You want to play all day?”
“Exactly, exactly. Half a day off is better than a whole day of classes.”
Chen Yitong knocked on the desk. “Quiet down. Don’t get too excited yet. After the sports meet ends in the afternoon, evening self-study will still happen as usual.”
“What? We still have self-study?”
“Teacher, that’s too harsh, isn’t it?”
“Alright, stop complaining. You should be happy with that half-day break. Focus now and continue morning reading,” Chen Yitong said. The literature class representative then led everyone to recite texts again.
After the first class, many students went to sign up for sports meet events with the sports committee. Mostly boys signed up. Among the girls, enthusiasm was clearly lower. Many didn’t want to compete, but the quota was fixed, so the sports committee had to persuade them one by one.
He talked until his lips nearly wore out, finally convincing a few girls to sign up. Soon, he reached Zhou Yining’s desk.
“Zhou Sis, please help. No one’s signing up for running. Could you sign up for one? It doesn’t matter if you win or not. I’m begging everyone,” the sports committee said, standing by Zhou Yining’s desk and rambling on.
Zhou Yining reluctantly took the sign-up sheet and looked at it. She found that less demanding events like long jump, shot put, and high jump were already taken. All that remained were running events.
Zhou Yining quickly wrote her name for the shortest 100-meter race. The sports meet was about participation, so a short run shouldn’t be a problem. As for the 1500-meter race, Zhou Yining had no intention of signing up.
“Here, I filled it out,” Zhou Yining said, handing the form back to the sports committee.
“Thanks, Zhou Sis. This is so hard, really too hard,” he said, leaving her desk to persuade other girls, still rambling.
At noon, after school, Zhou Yining called Jiang Xianzhi. The call was answered quickly.
“Want to come to my place for lunch?” Zhou Yining asked.
“Sure, I’ll tell the driver not to wait for me. See you at the school gate,” Jiang Xianzhi replied.
“Hmm, see you soon,” Zhou Yining said with a smile.
Zhou Yining walked to the school gate with Yu Yang and others. From a distance, she saw Jiang Xianzhi. She said goodbye to Yu Yang and the others, then jogged toward Jiang Xianzhi.
“Let’s go eat first,” Zhou Yining said, taking Jiang Xianzhi’s hand. Jiang Xianzhi smiled sweetly at her and followed.
Zhou Yining took Jiang Xianzhi to a nearby restaurant. The food there was decently priced. After lunch, Zhou Yining led Jiang Xianzhi to her small apartment.
The area had new buildings, and the neighborhood environment was nice, with separated pedestrian and vehicle paths. Zhou Yining took Jiang Xianzhi up the elevator and opened the door with her fingerprint.
“Come in. My place is a bit small, but it’s just right for one person,” Zhou Yining said with a smile.
Jiang Xianzhi changed into slippers and looked around the apartment. The apartment was one big room with a bathroom on the side. The entrance had an open-style small kitchen. The room had a custom wardrobe, a wooden desk, and a 1.5-meter bed. Overall, the space was arranged reasonably.
“It’s nice,” Jiang Xianzhi said. To her, anywhere with Zhou Yining was good.
“Change into these clothes, and let’s sleep early,” Zhou Yining said, handing Jiang Xianzhi a nightgown she had bought the previous night. It had been washed and was ready to wear.
“Okay,” Jiang Xianzhi said, taking the nightgown to the bathroom to change.
After she changed, Zhou Yining also changed. “The bed here isn’t as soft as yours. I’m worried you won’t be comfortable.”
The young lady was delicate, and Zhou Yining feared she wouldn’t sleep well.
“It’s fine. I’m okay with it,” Jiang Xianzhi said, already on the bed.
The bed wasn’t as comfortable as the one at home, but the important thing was that Zhou Yining was here.
When Zhou Yining got into bed, Jiang Xianzhi skillfully snuggled into her arms. She took a deep breath, instantly feeling comfortable, no longer minding the bed’s firmness.
Seeing the little fox settled, Zhou Yining’s eyes curved. She looked down at Jiang Xianzhi for a while, then heard her sleepy voice. “Not sleeping, Zhou Zhou? What are you looking at?”
Jiang Xianzhi felt Zhou Yining’s gaze but was too tired to open her eyes. She rubbed against Zhou Yining’s shoulder, acting coy.
“Hmm, I’m sleeping now,” Zhou Yining said, her eyes curving more. The little fox was so cute. She closed her eyes, hugging Jiang Xianzhi for a nap.
They woke up at 1:50 PM. Since Zhou Yining’s place was close to school, they tidied up slowly and left by 2:05 PM. School started at 2:20 PM, so they had plenty of time. Jiang Xianzhi even got to sleep half an hour longer than at home.
At dinner time, Jiang Xianzhi took food delivered by the family maid to the classroom. While eating, she absentmindedly played with her phone, waiting for a message from someone who didn’t send one.
Jiang Xianzhi didn’t want to go home that night. She wanted to stay with Zhou Yining. But her clothes were at home, and Zhou Yining hadn’t invited her to stay. She couldn’t just invite herself.
She poked at her food, sighing deeply.
Until school ended, Jiang Xianzhi didn’t receive a WeChat from Zhou Yining. Feeling down, the young lady went home.
When she got home, Liang Jing was there. Seeing her daughter’s glum face, Liang Jing asked, “What’s wrong? Who upset you?”
Jiang Xianzhi shook her head. She just wanted to go to Zhou Yining’s place.
Liang Jing saw she wasn’t talking and asked, “Didn’t you go to Zhou Yining’s place at noon? How’s her new place?”
“It’s nice,” Jiang Xianzhi replied, then went upstairs.
Liang Jing watched her daughter’s back, puzzled. “What’s with her? She was so happy this morning, but now she’s all wilted?”
Jiang Yueyi laughed. “Do you even need to ask? It’s definitely about Zhou Yining. They probably argued.”
“No way, right?” Liang Jing asked, though she thought it made sense. Her daughter used to talk about Zhang Ye all day, but now she had forgotten who Zhang Ye was. Her mind was full of Zhou Yining.
“What should we do? Should I ask her?” Liang Jing said.
Jiang Yueyi shook her head, smiling. “It’s their business. Why meddle? She’ll think you’re nosy.”
“True,” Liang Jing agreed, so she didn’t go to Jiang Xianzhi.
In her room, Jiang Xianzhi listlessly took a shower and started reviewing. By 11:30 PM, she went to bed but couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning.
Her big bed was soft and comfortable, but she missed the bed she slept in at noon. She grumbled and rolled in her blanket several times. After hesitating, she grabbed her phone.
Jiang Xianzhi: [Are you asleep, Zhou Zhou? (Cat peeking jpg)]
Zhou Yining had just lain down to sleep when she saw Jiang Xianzhi’s message. She quickly picked up her phone to reply.
Zhou Yining: [Not yet. Just lay down. What’s up? Can’t sleep? (Dog hugging jpg)]
Jiang Xianzhi: [Hmm, the bed’s not comfortable. It wasn’t as good as sleeping at noon.]
After sending this, Jiang Xianzhi’s ears turned red. She buried her face in the blanket, too shy to check Zhou Yining’s reply.
Zhou Yining saw the message, her eyes curving slightly. The little fox was hinting at her. She shook her head with a smile and typed.
Zhou Yining: [Then, want to move in with me?]
Zhou Yining lived alone, so it was fine if Jiang Xianzhi came. She just worried Jiang Xianzhi’s family might not agree.
Jiang Xianzhi: [Can I? Will I disturb you? (Shy cat jpg)]
Zhou Yining’s smile grew. She could imagine the young lady blushing shyly, looking adorable.
Zhou Yining: [Of course you can. You won’t disturb me.]
Jiang Xianzhi: [Great, then I’ll pack tomorrow morning and bring my stuff at noon.]
Seeing this, Zhou Yining chuckled. The little fox was eager.
Zhou Yining: [Okay, I’ll wait for you. (Dog smiling jpg)]
With Zhou Yining’s confirmation, Jiang Xianzhi happily rolled in her blanket again, messing up her neat bed.
She was so excited she wanted to pack right away. She looked at their chat history for a while before finally sleeping.
The next morning, she started packing. To avoid forgetting anything, she called a maid to help.
Liang Jing woke up early and heard the commotion in Jiang Xianzhi’s room. Curious, she went to check. Opening the door, she saw her daughter packing a suitcase.
“Wait, Zhizhi, what are you doing?” Liang Jing asked.
Jiang Xianzhi replied with a big smile, “Mother, Zhou Zhou invited me to stay with her for a few days. I’m packing my luggage.”
