Chapter 75: She Feels a Bit Guilty
Zhou Yining went into the bathroom and took a shower, which cleared her head a little. The little fox wasn’t an adult yet, so what was she just thinking about while staring at the little fox?
Zhou Yining shook her head with a wry smile and continued bathing at a leisurely pace. After she came out, she had already adjusted her mindset.
Zhou Yining pulled a chair and sat beside Jiang Xianzhi. She asked softly, “Have you finished the test paper?”
Jiang Xianzhi nodded. “I finished it long ago. I’m reviewing other content now.”
“Hmm, show me the test paper for checking.”
Jiang Xianzhi pouted but obediently handed the test paper to Zhou Yining.
Zhou Yining took a pencil and started grading. In a short while, she finished grading the test paper.
“Your basics have clearly improved, but you still got one multiple-choice question wrong and one fill-in-the-blank question wrong. The biggest issue is the last two big questions. Let’s start with the multiple-choice.”
Zhou Yining took out some scratch paper and leaned closer to Jiang Xianzhi, explaining the questions in detail. Jiang Xianzhi listened obediently.
While Zhou Yining explained, the fragrance from the girl’s hair drifted over, causing Zhou Yining to pause several times.
Jiang Xianzhi didn’t notice anything wrong with Zhou Yining. She looked up at her and asked, “Zhou Zhou, why did you stop explaining?”
“It’s nothing. I’ll take a sip of water and continue.” Zhou Yining subtly moved a bit farther away. She stood up to pour herself some water, drank a few sips, and felt slightly better.
Although Zhou Yining was now a senior high school student, she was essentially an adult. After zoning out several times, Zhou Yining clearly understood what was happening to her.
She pinched her brow and returned to Jiang Xianzhi’s side. “Alright, let’s continue with that big question.”
This time, Zhou Yining didn’t sit too close to Jiang Xianzhi. They kept a slight distance. Jiang Xianzhi listened attentively and didn’t notice anything amiss.
After explaining the questions to Jiang Xianzhi, it was almost 11:30. Zhou Yining glanced at her watch and said, “It’s past eleven. We should sleep, or we won’t get up tomorrow morning.”
“Hmm.” Jiang Xianzhi nodded and obediently got into bed.
Her bright eyes stared at Zhou Yining, waiting for Zhou Yining to get into bed and hold her to sleep.
Zhou Yining’s gaze flickered slightly. She felt a bit guilty. Her Zhizhi still had over half a year until she turned 18, and from the looks of it, the young lady clung to her out of pure affection.
Zhou Yining sighed and resignedly got into bed.
As expected, the moment she lay down, the young lady quickly snuggled up. “Zhizhi, be good. It’s time to sleep.”
“Didn’t you always hold me to sleep before?” Jiang Xianzhi looked at Zhou Yining with a pitiful expression.
Seeing her like this, Zhou Yining gave in. “Alright, we’ll still sleep holding each other. You mustn’t move around.”
“I didn’t move around. You’re accusing me unfairly,” Jiang Xianzhi said softly. She nestled into Zhou Yining’s arms, found a comfortable position, rubbed against her, and then closed her eyes.
Zhou Yining looked at Jiang Xianzhi in her arms but couldn’t fall asleep. The girl’s soft body pressed against her, and the fragrance from Jiang Xianzhi’s hair reached her nose, making Zhou Yining somewhat distracted.
She held Jiang Xianzhi’s waist with one hand and turned off the bedside lamp with the other. The room plunged into darkness, but she still couldn’t sleep.
Zhou Yining had long noticed that her feelings for Jiang Xianzhi were different from those for others. At first, she didn’t think much of it since she never cared about dating. But recently, when she was with Jiang Xianzhi, she kept zoning out and couldn’t help staring at her, which left Zhou Yining helpless.
She liked the young lady, which wasn’t a problem, but the young lady wasn’t an adult yet. Besides, they were in their senior year, so it clearly wasn’t the time for such thoughts. It could affect Jiang Xianzhi’s studies. So, Zhou Yining decided not to say anything for now. Half a year wasn’t long; she could endure it. After all, studies came first.
With that thought, she took a few deep breaths, told herself not to overthink, and finally fell asleep.
The next morning, Zhou Yining was woken by the alarm. She gently patted Jiang Xianzhi’s waist. “Get up, Zhizhi. Wake up.”
“Hmm.” Jiang Xianzhi mumbled, burying her face in Zhou Yining’s arms, unwilling to get up.
Zhou Yining had to pull the sleepy little fox out of her arms. “Be good. If you don’t get up, you’ll be late.”
Jiang Xianzhi, pulled up, grumbled a few times, squinted her eyes, and got up to wash.
Zhou Yining’s eyes curved with a smile, charmed by the young lady’s cuteness. She got up, changed clothes, tidied the bed, and waited for Jiang Xianzhi to finish before going to wash.
After getting ready, they went out for breakfast.
Meanwhile, Liang Jing had also woken up early. Her daughter had never left home before, so she was somewhat worried.
At this hour, Jiang Yueyi hadn’t woken up yet. Liang Jing simply had the driver take her to the gate of Nanchuan City No. 1 High School to check on her daughter. Soon, the driver parked the car near the school gate.
Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi had just finished breakfast and were walking toward the school. Zhou Yining carried Jiang Xianzhi’s backpack, while Jiang Xianzhi walked lightly beside her.
They held hands, chatting and laughing along the way.
As they neared the school gate, Jiang Xianzhi heard someone call her. She turned and saw her mother calling her.
Jiang Xianzhi pulled Zhou Yining over. “Mother? Why did you come here?”
“Oh, you moved to your classmate’s place, and I was a bit worried, so I came to check on you. Are you doing okay?” Liang Jing asked. She missed her daughter dearly.
Jiang Xianzhi nodded quickly. “Hmm, everything’s fine. Zhou Zhou takes good care of me.”
Zhou Yining smiled and greeted Liang Jing. “Hello, Auntie.”
“Hi.” Liang Jing smiled back at Zhou Yining but noticed something off. Why was her daughter’s backpack on Zhou Yining?
“Zhizhi, why don’t you come back home? It’s too much trouble for little Zhou.”
“No way, I just moved here. Let me stay a few more days,” Jiang Xianzhi said, hugging her mother and acting spoiled. In the end, Liang Jing had no choice but to give in.
She couldn’t help but ask, “Zhizhi, why aren’t you carrying your own backpack? Why is little Zhou carrying it for you?”
“It’s fine, Auntie. It’s not heavy. I’ll carry it for her,” Zhou Yining replied with a smile.
Liang Jing coughed lightly, feeling more and more that something was off between the two. But she didn’t say anything, just nodded with a smile. “Hmm, go to school now. Don’t be late.”
“Okay, we’re going, Mother.” Jiang Xianzhi said, pulling Zhou Yining’s hand and heading to school.
Zhou Yining didn’t hand the backpack to Jiang Xianzhi until they reached the third floor. She looked at Jiang Xianzhi and gently instructed, “Listen well in class this morning. Remember to wait for me at noon.”
“Hmm, got it.” Jiang Xianzhi smiled at her, reluctantly taking her backpack.
Meanwhile, Liang Jing grew more suspicious. What kind of relationship was this? They lived together, cared deeply for each other, got upset because of each other, and even carried each other’s backpacks. If this wasn’t dating, what was?
Just then, Jiang Yueyi came downstairs, ready for breakfast, and saw her mother already in the living room.
“Mother, you’re up so early today?” Jiang Yueyi asked.
“Hmm, I just went to check on your little sister.”
“How’s Zhizhi doing?” Jiang Yueyi asked.
“She’s fine, but I think she and Zhou Yining are acting strange. Friends don’t usually stick together like that. I saw them at the school gate just now, and Zhou Yining was carrying your sister’s backpack. If it were me, I wouldn’t carry a friend’s backpack unless she was my girlfriend,” Liang Jing said.
Jiang Yueyi nodded. “I think so too. I’ve always felt something was off between them. Didn’t I tell you before? Last time, Zhou Yining carried Zhizhi back to the bedroom from the study in a princess hug. Something’s definitely up.”
“What should we do? Is your little sister in an early relationship? And with a girl?” Liang Jing felt a headache coming on.
Jiang Yueyi nodded. “Pretty much. I think we can only let it be. Zhizhi really likes her. If we separate them, Zhizhi will definitely break down.”
Given how attached her little sister was to Zhou Yining, Jiang Yueyi didn’t dare imagine what would happen if they were separated.
“Tch, but they can’t date now. It’s their senior year, a critical time. They’re even living together now. What if they lose themselves in this and neglect their studies?” Liang Jing said worriedly.
Jiang Yueyi thought for a moment and said, “I don’t think that’ll happen. When Zhou Yining comes to our house, she always pushes Zhizhi to study. They won’t lose themselves, but we should remind them. If they want to date, they should at least wait until next year.”
Liang Jing nodded. “Then this Sunday, I’ll have both Zhizhi and Zhou Yining come back, and I’ll find a chance to talk to Zhou Yining.”
Liang Jing felt that Zhou Yining was the more mature of the two, so talking to her would be more effective.
“Sounds good.” Jiang Yueyi agreed with her mother’s plan.
Zhou Yining was completely unaware of this. These days, the school was lively, especially for the first and second years, who were rehearsing for the formation march. Each class would also choose a girl to hold the sign in front.
Many in Zhou Yining’s class were discussing this, but it had nothing to do with the seniors. Third-year students only participated in events.

On Saturday morning, the students at Nanchuan City No. 1 High School were excited. In the morning, the first and second years would compete in the formation march, and in the afternoon, the annual autumn sports meet would take place.
Jiang Xianzhi was also thrilled. She grabbed Zhou Yining’s wrist and said, “Zhou Zhou, when you run the 100 meters this afternoon, I’ll cheer for you from below.”
Zhou Yining nodded with a wry smile. “Alright, but I’m just running for fun.”
“I’ll still cheer for you,” Jiang Xianzhi said with a smile. She felt Zhou Yining was spoiling her. Now, Zhou Yining carried her backpack to and from school.
“We’re here. See you this afternoon.” Zhou Yining smiled and handed the backpack to Jiang Xianzhi.
“Hmm, see you this afternoon.” Jiang Xianzhi took the backpack, turning back every few steps as she headed to Class 1.
Zhou Yining stood in the corridor, waving to her and signaling her to watch the road. After Jiang Xianzhi entered Class 1, Zhou Yining turned and went upstairs.
When she reached her classroom, a few boys were gossiping about the sports meet.
“Have you heard? This year’s host is still Zhong Yumeng. It’s a pity we’re not in the formation competition this year. Otherwise, the beauties in our grade could hold signs too.”
“Yeah, last year Zhong Yumeng looked great in that outfit. It’s a shame seniors don’t hold signs this year.”
“And Sister Zhou. If we were choosing sign holders this year, our class would definitely pick Sister Zhou.”
“Exactly, such a pity. We won’t see it.”
“What are you thinking? Getting half a day off this afternoon is good enough.”
“Yeah, fair point. Oh well.”
