After Becoming the Abused Heroine in a Campus Story - Chapter 79: Throwing a Tantrum
Chapter 79: Throwing a Tantrum
At noon when school ended, Jiang Xianzhi’s mood clearly improved a bit. The two held hands and walked toward the apartment.
Liang Jing knew they had been eating out lately and felt uneasy about it. She simply arranged for lunch to be prepared at home and sent over. Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi conveniently picked up the lunch when they returned to the apartment.
The two returned to the apartment and started washing hands to eat. During the nap, Jiang Xianzhi still clung to Zhou Yining’s arms. However, she didn’t move around this time and found a comfortable position to sleep.
In the following days, Zhou Yining made Jiang Xianzhi study every night. The child became completely worn out. As soon as she hit the bed, she fell asleep from exhaustion upon touching the pillow. This made Zhou Yining very satisfied. Otherwise, the little fox rubbing against her in her arms would have been unbearable.
Soon, October arrived. This was also the only slightly longer holiday Zhou Yining and her classmates in their senior year could take. However, the teachers of each subject didn’t let them off. They assigned more test papers for one subject than the other.
During the holiday, Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi returned to the villa to stay. Liang Jing hadn’t seen her daughter for weeks and noticed her daughter looked much more haggard.
“Zhizhi, what’s wrong with you? Why do you seem so listless?” Liang Jing asked.
Jiang Xianzhi rubbed her eyes and looked at Zhou Yining. “Zhou Zhou has been pushing me to study these past few weeks. I have to study until very late before sleeping.”
“Working hard is good, but don’t overdo it. It’s only the first day of the holiday. You two don’t study today. Relax a bit. Your father is coming back from abroad today,” Liang Jing said.
Jiang Xianzhi looked at Zhou Yining. Zhou Yining smiled and nodded at her.
Zhou Yining felt she had been a bit harsh these past few weeks, making the young lady too tired. “Okay, we won’t study today. We’ll do the test papers tomorrow.”
“Great!” Jiang Xianzhi’s eyes lit up.
The two went upstairs to put away their things and then went down to the dining room.
Since the company was on break, Liang Jing and Jiang Yueyi were also at the villa. Around ten in the morning, Jiang Shengde returned from abroad.
He brought back many things and was thrilled to see Jiang Xianzhi.
“Zhizhi, I brought you lots of gifts this time. See if you like them.” Jiang Shengde spread out the gifts he bought for Jiang Xianzhi on the living room coffee table.
Jiang Xianzhi was very happy. The gifts included skincare products, luxury items, and several watches.
Among them were two watches from the same series. Jiang Xianzhi was thrilled and picked up the two watches. “Zhou Zhou, which one do you like? Let’s each wear one. How about we wear them together?”
Zhou Yining glanced at the watch brand. It was a high-end foreign brand, each watch costing hundreds of thousands. She smiled at Jiang Xianzhi and politely declined. “No need. I’m not used to wearing watches. You can wear them yourself.”
The smile on Jiang Xianzhi’s face faded. She pursed her lips, glanced at Zhou Yining, and didn’t speak. Then she started silently packing up the things on the coffee table.
The more she packed, the more aggrieved she felt. Soon, her eyes turned red. These past few weeks, she felt Zhou Yining had changed toward her. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly how, but Zhou Yining always found ways to avoid intimate contact. Now, when she wanted to give Zhou Yining a matching watch, Zhou Yining didn’t want it.
Thinking this, Jiang Xianzhi felt even more aggrieved. She glanced at Zhou Yining and continued silently packing things.
Zhou Yining noticed her red eyes and hurriedly approached. She asked softly, “What’s wrong? Why are you suddenly unhappy?”
Jiang Xianzhi sniffled and didn’t speak. She continued her actions.
Zhou Yining moved closer. “Are you mad at me, Zhizhi?”
She gently pulled Jiang Xianzhi’s wrist. Jiang Xianzhi dodged, pulling her wrist away from Zhou Yining’s hand and wiping away a tear.
Seeing the little fox cry, Zhou Yining grew anxious and quickly said, “I was wrong, okay? Don’t be angry. You can tell me anything. Don’t upset yourself.”
“Would telling you help? You’ve been so cold to me lately. You don’t hug me or get close like before. I just offered you something, and you don’t want it. You just don’t want me anymore.” Jiang Xianzhi said loudly.
“I haven’t been cold to you. The watch was too expensive. I can’t accept it.” Zhou Yining couldn’t explain well. She couldn’t say she reduced physical contact to avoid losing control, could she?
“You say you haven’t, but you’ve made me study so hard these weeks just so I’d be too tired to cling to you when sleeping, right?” Jiang Xianzhi cried while staring at Zhou Yining.
Zhou Yining quickly bent down to grab a tissue to wipe Jiang Xianzhi’s tears. Jiang Xianzhi dodged her.
“You don’t need to care. You don’t like me anymore, so I won’t like you either.” After Zhou Yining avoided her intimate contact several times and refused the watch, Jiang Xianzhi didn’t want to deal with Zhou Yining anymore.
Saying this, Jiang Xianzhi wiped a tear and quickly walked upstairs.
Zhou Yining stood there, scratching her head. She didn’t know how to comfort her.
Originally, Jiang Shengde, Liang Jing, and Jiang Yueyi were discussing matters in the dining room. Hearing the commotion, Jiang Shengde wanted to check.
“Zhizhi and her little friend seem to have argued. Why is she crying? I’ll go see.” Jiang Shengde started to get up.
Liang Jing pinched her brow and advised, “I suggest you don’t go. It’s their matter. Let them handle it themselves.”
“How can that do? Zhizhi is crying.” Jiang Shengde said worriedly.
Liang Jing glanced toward the living room and sighed. “Then shall we go together to check?”
“Let’s go together,” Jiang Shengde said.
Jiang Yueyi followed her parents, ready to watch the drama. She wanted to know how Zhou Yining made her little sister cry.
Seeing Jiang Xianzhi’s family approaching, Zhou Yining felt helpless. “Sorry, I made Zhizhi cry.”
“What exactly happened?” Liang Jing asked.
“Well, I’ve been intentionally avoiding overly intimate physical contact with Zhizhi lately. I’m afraid I can’t hold back. But Zhizhi might have misunderstood. Plus, she just wanted to give me a watch, and I refused. She’s probably feeling a bit upset.” Zhou Yining explained tactfully.
Liang Jing and Jiang Yueyi understood her words, but Jiang Shengde was confused. He didn’t know about Zhou Yining and his daughter yet.
“Can’t hold back what?” Jiang Shengde asked.
Zhou Yining rubbed her hands, glanced aside, and didn’t dare speak. “Nothing. Aunt, you guys carry on. I’ll go upstairs to check on Zhizhi.”
Saying this, Zhou Yining quickly slipped away and jogged upstairs.
“Hey, this kid, why run off after saying half a sentence?” Jiang Shengde said discontentedly. He looked at Liang Jing and Jiang Yueyi. Why did he feel they were hiding something from him?
“What’s going on here?” Jiang Shengde asked.
“It’s what you see. Zhizhi and Xiao Zhou like each other. But Zhizhi hasn’t realized what kind of like this is. Xiao Zhou, worried about affecting Zhizhi’s studies, hasn’t said anything. Maybe she’s been a bit cold to Zhizhi lately, so Zhizhi got upset.” Liang Jing explained.
Jiang Shengde’s head spun. He opened his mouth but only spoke after a long pause. “You’re saying they like each other? The kind of like for dating?”
Liang Jing nodded. “Hmm, but your daughter hasn’t realized it yet. Xiao Zhou doesn’t plan to say it now, worried it’ll affect her studies.”
“Let me process this.” Jiangoxels, finding a chair to sit down. It took him a while to calm down.
“So what do we do?” Jiang Shengde, clueless about his younger daughter’s situation, asked.
“Let them handle it themselves. If Xiao Zhou can’t comfort her, it’s fine to let her talk it out with Zhizhi. Just don’t let it affect their studies.” Liang Jing pinched her brow and said.
Meanwhile, Zhou Yining followed Jiang Xianzhi upstairs. She knocked on Jiang Xianzhi’s door. “Zhizhi? Don’t be angry. I’m coming in, okay?”
Saying this, Zhou Yining listened at the door. Hearing no sound, she tentatively turned the doorknob. The door opened.
Zhou Yining sighed in relief. Thankfully, the young lady didn’t lock the door. She stepped into the room and gently closed the door.
Zhou Yining scanned the room. The bed was a mess. Jiang Xianzhi was probably buried in the blankets, her head invisible.
Zhou Yining found the young lady both adorable and pitiful. She hurriedly walked over.
“Zhizhi? Zhizhi?” She called twice, but no one answered.
With no choice, Zhou Yining reached to pull the blanket. She saw Jiang Xianzhi lying on the bed, her shoulders shaking, clearly still crying.
Zhou Yining quickly approached. She gently placed her hand on Jiang Xianzhi’s lower back. The angry little fox pushed her hand away.
“Don’t touch me. Don’t you dislike hugging me now?” Jiang Xianzhi said, sniffling aggrievedly, refusing to look at Zhou Yining.
Zhou Yining hurriedly leaned in to comfort her. “I don’t dislike hugging you. Don’t be angry, okay?”
Seeing no response from the young lady, Zhou Yining tentatively placed her hand on Jiang Xianzhi’s lower back again. Jiang Xianzhi wriggled a bit but didn’t push Zhou Yining’s hand away this time.
Zhou Yining sighed in relief. She pulled Jiang Xianzhi closer into her arms. “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have made my little fox cry. Don’t be angry, okay?”
Jiang Xianzhi glared at her, huffed, and leaned into her arms. “You’ve been avoiding me these past few days. I can feel it. You don’t even like hugging me to sleep anymore. What’s wrong?”
Jiang Xianzhi sniffled, looking at Zhou Yining with an aggrieved expression.
Zhou Yining pursed her lips, hesitating whether to speak. If she didn’t, such misunderstandings might increase.
“Say something.” Jiang Xianzhi rubbed her tears on Zhou Yining’s body, looking at her expectantly.
Zhou Yining sighed. She flipped over, pinning the young lady beneath her.
Zhou Yining’s gaze swept over Jiang Xianzhi’s brows and eyes, finally landing on her lips.
She swallowed a few times before looking into Jiang Xianzhi’s eyes.
Jiang Xianzhi felt Zhou Yining seemed a bit different. Her dark eyes stared at her, making her nervous.
“What are you doing?” Jiang Xianzhi asked softly.
Zhou Yining kept staring at her and gently touched the side of Jiang Xianzhi’s face. “You asked why I distanced myself from you. This is why.”
“What?” The young lady, confused, still didn’t understand Zhou Yining’s meaning.
